Gussoni def Bedanova

Daja was very inconsistent in this match, first she played bad and was down 4-1 in the first, but she got it to 5-4, then Gussoni took it to the TB and won it easily. Same thing happened in the 2nd, I think Gussoni had a similar lead, Daja started playing aggressively and got it back even, then Gussoni won the TB. Daja was really good when she was playing well, she made a lot of good volleys and showed off her all court skill, but couldnt keep it up and had mental lapses when she lost a few games in a row. Gussoni looked really pumped up, she kept pumping her fist and saying her equivalent of "come on" after every point she won! She also looks more tanned than she does in the photos I've seen before.

Mi Ra Jeon def Zi Yan

Both girls have pretty much the same game, hitting flat from the baseline. There were a lot of long rallies in this match, with both trying to attack. Mi Ra played well, hitting deep penetrating shots. In the 1st set TB she led 5-0, then it got back to 5-5, but then she closed it out 7-5. At 5-4 in the 2nd just before Zi was about to serve for the set Mi Ra took an injury time out and i think she got her thigh strapped. She lost the set and went down 3-1 in the 3rd. She played 2 great games to break back and hold, then Zi seemed to fall apart, losing the next 3 games with lots of unforced errors. Watching this match was the Chinese coach, Jie Zheng and Ting Li.

Tian Tian Sun def Korytsseva

Tian Tian was playing very well in this match, while Mariya was just horrible. You could tell she was in a slump, she did so many double faults (i think about 10) and most of her serves seemed to go about 1-2 metres long! She couldnt keep many groundstrokes in the court either. I started watching this match at 2-2 in the 1st, so I only saw her win one game, and that was only bc of some dubious line calls. Tian Tian has a great baseline game and a pretty good serve, i think shes a good chance to qualify. Ting Li was watching this match, as well as the Chinese coach I've seen in pics before. In this match another Chinese coach started talking to me, and he said I was beautiful  Though he said his name and his players name in Chinese so I didnt understand it lol. He said he thought Sun was better than Yan because she could vary the pace in the rallies, while Yan just trys to hit it hard all the time.

Nemeckova def Poutchek

There were a lot of long rallies in this match, it seemed to last very long, every time I walked past it was still going on and the score was moving slowly. Both were trying to get the ball into court in the rallies and not being very aggressive and moonballing a bit. The 1st set was a lot of effort for both, I didnt see any of the 2nd but I imagine Poutchek must have been deflated after losing such a 1st set.

Bondarenko def Cupac

Dubz looks like the most talented of the Aussies I saw today. She hit the ball very hard and tried to be aggressive on every point. However she made too many errors doing this. Shes great when shes being aggressive and making the play, but I got the impression that she needs to improve her defensive game a little more, whenever she was on the back foot she wasnt as good. Alyona hit a lot of great shots too and was just too good for her today. Dubz looks like a physically strong girl and i think she can be good when she improves in the future.

Yulia B def Nakamura

I was very impressed with Aiko's game today, she was aggressive and tried to attack all the time with hard groundstrokes, she was definitely making the play today, while Yulia was forced to defend, which she did very well. Aiko won the first, and Yulia was serving for the 2nd at 6-5 but Aiko had 0-40 and chances to take it to a TB but she didnt take them and Yulia held to take the 2nd. I left after this, I guess Aiko must have been disappointed at not taking her chances and lost the 3rd easily.

Benesova def Wheeler

This match was very close with both playing very well until about 5-5, when Iveta broke and served the set out. She started playing better and ran out to a 5-2 lead in the 2nd set. Christina fought hard to get it to 5-4, but Iveta closed it out on serve. Watching this match was Klara Koukalova, who was loudly cheering on Iveta. Also dropping in at some point was Kleinova and Tomas Berdych. I talked a bit to Klara, I told her i hope she plays like she did last year again here, and she laughed and said "i dont think so" So i told her to have some confidence, coz it doesnt seem like she thinks she can play like that again. I took a pic of both Klara and Sandra but havent developed them yet.

Groenefeld def Alves

I was impressed with Anna Lena's game, she hits with a lot of power and accuracy, and has a great serve. Alves looked more like a counterpuncher, she was quite a small skinny girl in contrast to Anna Lena whos well built.

Dulko def Olga B

I saw a bit of the first set, Olga was hitting the ball very hard, but still wasnt in her best form, making many errors. Gise made a lot of great touch shots. Still Olga won more games than i thought she would.

Gajdosova def Irvin

Marissa still looks a little chubby especially around her tummy, though she didnt play that bad today, just Jarmila was playing great and made a lot of winners, and less errors than Marissa. She was just the better player today.

Pelletier def Kirilenko

Didnt see much of this but from what I saw Marie Eve was playing very well, she hit a few awesome groundstroke winners. Last time I saw her she was hitting a lot of winners from the net, but she seemed to be winning from the baseline mainly today.

Liggan def Duebbers

Both were playing pretty aggressive baseline tennis, both hitting it deep. Liggan has a loud grunt. Didnt watch enough of this to say more.

Perry vs Fokina

Only saw a bit of this in the 1st set but it seemed Shenay had it in control with a lead in the first set. She doesnt have much power but is more a finesse player, she has a backhand slice which is pretty consistent and hits her forehand flat most of the time, but slices it sometimes as well. This was a match between two finesse players with both doing lobs and slices for most of the time i was watching.

Rodionova vs Haynes

Haynes was outplaying her opponent at first, hitting harder groundstrokes and a lot of winners. Rodionova was getting frustrated and she was swearing audibly. Haynes had a 3-0 lead and I left and when i came back it was back even. In the TB Haynes had a 5-2 lead but started making errors and lost 7-5. After that it was easy for Rodionova in the 2nd set.

I heard Aiko pulled her muscle during the third... but according to the interview, she seemed to enjoy the first GS qualifying match! :)

Thanks for these reports :) .

I believe too that Zi would have won this match, had she varied her game more :( .

As for Korytsseva, Tian-Tian knows how to pressurise her opponent 2nd serve it if is too weak ;) . I suppose this could explain why there were so many doubles faults / long serves.

I am very curious to find out which coach it was who told you you are beautiful  . If you PM me, I think we may be able to find out ;) .
