OK, either it's a 3 hour match (possible but unlikely), or it's raining, or they are slow with updates.

Qualifier makes semifinals

January 14, 2004

HOBART, January 14 Ė Former world No.1 junior Ma Emilia Salerni continued her breakthrough form at the Moorilla International where she reached her first WTA Tour semifinal today.

Coming through the qualifying rounds, Salerni, defeated No.7 seed Anca Barna of Germany 7-6 (4) 6-3.

"I remember when I was a junior, I won the US Open and Wimbledon but there is too much difference between juniors and professional," Salerni said.

In her first round the world No.173-ranked Argentinian upset second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, and managed the swirling conditions more effectively at the Domain Tennis Centre.

"It was a difficult first set, both of us was a little nervous I think, and with this wind you have to move a lot every time and be focused just on the ball.

"I try to be aggressive all the time and come to the net, and try to use my hard baseline shots every time.

"Iím feeling very good, Iím going to try and win the tournament and take a lot of points."

Salerniís next opponent is either Maria Elena Camerin of France or Amy Frazier, runner-up in Hobart last year to Alicia Molik.

Her unexpected success this year means Salerni will miss out on the qualifying tournament for Australian Open 2004, however she intends to play the doubles.

I think they should have one up to one spot for a player who can't make the qualifying because they are still alive in another tournament. If there is more than one, probably pick at random. If no players are, then just take the "next-in" or another wildcard.

I'm so happy for Brandi, last year she rocked the ITF tour with 7 titles and 1 Final.

Right now she's in both Singles and Doubles semifinals, and I think she has a good chance at the title if she continues to play as good as she is.

GO KRISTINA!
