Anybody knows about the schedule for Regional Qualifying Group 1 ?
Is it true that the Indian Wells and the Fed Cup Regional Qualifying Group 1 event, taking place at the same week ?

Yes, that's true. :(

Japanese Team
* Saori Obata
* Rika Fujiwara
* Akiko Morigami
* Yuka Yoshida

Saori and Rika will be missing Indian Wells. :mad:

Spyro, is the Indonesian Team confirmed yet? :confused:

and the Taiwanese and the Chinese teams :confused: ?

For China, I guess there will be LI Na and LIU Nan Nan in singles. I wonder who else. For doubles I also wonder if LI Na + LI Ting will be playing or Jie + Zi who have been performing well in UK (and it's not over yet :) ).

And anyone knows where to be played¡H

For Taiwan, I think Janet Lee, Su-Wei Hsieh,Chia-Jung Chuang will be playing. The last player may be Hsiao-Han Chao or Chin-Wei Chan, I hope it will be Chin-Wei, because her performance in doubles is very well.But I am really worried about Janet Lee, she has't played well recently,hope she can play well in Fed Cup.

Rising Sun

Lin, it will be played at Guangzhou, China. :)

Rising Sun

Indian Team
* Manisha Malhotra
* Rushmi Chakravarthi
* Sheethal Goutham
* Sonal Phadke :)
Reserve: Radhika Tulpule

I'm surprised Sheethal got in before Radhika.
Kind of weak without Niru. :(

I think there's an article there about Indonesian Fed Cup and Asian Games team :

http://sport.mweb.co.id/berita/tenis/artikel.php?article_id=4939

Though it's in Indonesian, I am seeing some names there like :

Liza Andriyani
Diana Julianto

Wukirasih Sawondari

No name of Angelique Widjaja or Wynne Prakusya :confused: .

Would someone have more details?

Rising Sun

The article is probably discussing the "other" players apart from the usuals, Wynne and Angie.

A pity Romana is injured and Yayuk not playing, because they seemed to have a good chance. However, they're still very formidable. Wukirasih seems quite a good doubles player (r/u Asian Champs). Pity she doesn't play much overseas tourneys. :(

It's been awhile since Liza Andriyani played Fed Cup. I remember she was the Number 2 player back in 1996 when Indonesia lost to Switzerland in a close battle.

Diana Julianto is probably the orange girl, like Angie was in the 1st series last year. Diana is overrated IMO. Her junior results haven't been that good, but I guess they must make use of whoever they have

I personally think Sandy Gumulya will be a better player than Diana based on results, but she's a couple of years younger.

I understand that the Indonesian Fed Cup team has been announced :

- Wynne Prakusya
- Angelique Widjaja
- Wukirasih Sawondari
- Diana Jlianto (alt.).

Taiwanese team has been announced, too.

Janet Lee
Su-Wei Hsieh
Chia-Jung Chuang
Hsiao-Han Chao

But one problem is maybe Su-Wei can't get the visa which is to Guangzhou on time :( , so maybe Chin-Wei Chan will substitute her.

Rising Sun
Feb 19th, 2002, 11:29 AM
lin, that is not good news. :(

It will reduce Taiwan's chances greatly if Su-Wei doesn't play.

I'm surprised Hsiao-Han got chosen over Chin-Wei. :eek:

lin
Feb 19th, 2002, 12:30 PM
I'm disappointed that Hsiao-Han got chosen over Chin-Wei:sad:, I think the reason they choose Hsiao-Han rather than Chin-Wei maybe just because Hsiao-Han's ranking is higher than Chin-Wei.

I am not familiar with visa procedures between Taiwan and China :confused: . How much time does it usually take to get such a visa?

For how long has she applied for the visa already?

lin

Because I haven't been to China, so I don't know.:o

If any Taiwanese knows it, please explain to me and Steveg, thanks.:)

Another bad news for Taiwan

It is confirmed that Su-Wei can't play Fed Cup because the visa:fiery:, and Chia-Jung is injured so that she can't play Fed Cup, too.:fiery: Chin-Wei will play Fed Cup, the other player hasnt been confirmed.

Since Su-Wei and Chia-Jung won't play Fed Cup, I don't expect Taiwan can play greatly in Fed Cup, just hope Janet Lee and Chin-Wei try their best.And I also hope Su-Wei can play Indian Wells and boost her ranking.

This is a huge blow for Taiwan's chances. :(

The key will be Janet's singles and the doubles, I'd say.
Janet's only won 1 match this year... :mad:

I wonder who the alternate will be?
Tzu-Ting Weng maybe? :confused:

lin
Feb 26th, 2002, 10:40 AM
I don't think Tzu-Ting Weng will be the alternate, because she is also injured :sad: when she played in New Delhi qualifying 2nd round against Chin-Wei .
I think maybe I-Ting Wang will be the alternate.

I-Ting is committed to the Australian Circuit for the next month, unless she decides to withdraw. :(

Do you someone like Lan-Lan Tai will take over?
Or maybe Yu-An Chen, is she also still injured? :confused:

Mi-ra Jeon will play Fed-cup along with Yoon-jeong Cho.

She had to withdraw from a 50K event due to the Fed-cup. Bad scheduling! :(

Good luck to Mi-ra in Fed cup!

Thanks Eric for the news! :D

I'm disappointed Mi-Ra had to sacrifice an important event to play Fed Cup. However, it's the first time she's played since 1996! :eek:

Do you know who the other players are?

Young-Ja Choi? :confused:

How is Mi-Ra according to her fanpage anyway? ;)

Hi, danker. :D

Unfortunately, I don't have any further information regarding the Fed cup.

Mi-ra just mentioned that she skipped one US event for Fed cup play and she said she would go to China this Saturday.
Nothing special on her post,... just mentioning some appreciation her fan's support and their message on the board.

Go, Mi-ra!

As at today, Su Wei is still in the list of players for Taiwan Fed Cup team, according to ITF officials with whom I discussed today. No official news reported of problem to get visa, though I know for sure it has been reported in the newspapers :confused: .

Situation is quite confusing :confused: .
