View Full Version : Sad news : Gaelle Taton retires from international tennis

Jan 12th, 2004, 09:47 PM
She just sent me an mail, and here are the tennis related parts :

"Pour le tournoi d'Anvers,c'était pas prévu au programme mais je vais pas cracher
sur la sélection.En fait,j'ai
arrêté la compétition internationale et compte juste jouer en Belgique."
"Comme je veux encore jouer au tennis à l'âge de 50 ans,j'ai dû faire un
choix:soit prendre le risque de me
détruire le bras soit lui laisser le temps de guérir."

Translation :

"For the Antwerp tournament, it wasn't programmed for me, but I won't refuse my selection. In fact, I stopped the international competition and I'll only play in Belgium"
"As I still wanna play tennis at 50 years old, I had to choose between : taking the risk to destroy my arm or giving it time to heal."

That's really sad  So now, she's finishing her studies at my uni and she's looking for a job and she gives tennis lessons in a club.

If you want me to give her some support messages or so I can give them to Gaelle when I see her :)

I hope you'll get a nice life after the tennis :) You tried to get everything out and I think that's the most important!

Yes  that's why I hope Kim won't take too many risks with her ankle, see what can happen!

But she seems to be happy, she said it was a tough decision to take, but she seemed to feel well in her body and all... so that's great! I am sure she'll have a great life in the future! She's smart

I hope she enjoys her life and enjoys the times she will still play tennis here in belgium!

Belgium = Best

A pitty that she retires already at such a young age.

Dominique Coene retired a few months ago too, but he already changed his mind.
Please do the same Gaelle!

Dominique Coene almost retired !?!? And he is such a promissing and talented player !

It must be because of financial reasons that he considered this. Outside the top 150 the costs are very high and the income is low.

I think she won't change her mind. The big difference between her and Dominique is that she's graduated (in law) + 2 years studies to become a notary. She's looking for a job now and I'm sure she'll find quite easily. Tennis has always been a hobby for her, so she won't risk her health for it.

I meet Gaelle next monday, so if you want me to give me some messages concerning her retirement, or to wish her luck for Antwerp or anything, post it here (before Sunday morning) and I'll print it and give it to her
