Im with you on that one Purple Llama, It will be a excellent match, Maybe a little Tedious, But it depends on how Patty Plays on the day.
Just looking back at her last match, She bet Jelena Jankovic, The Second Set Bagel is a prime example of what a typical Schnyder Serve when on fire can do, As it is Left Handed it produces an out swing which can be deadly when she is serving well and at a good speed, Usually looking at the Grand Slam Fastest Serves, Patty is right up their in Fastest Serve and Average First Serve. Apart from the Ankle Injury she isn't in to bad health, The Showing here at the Adidas will see how Patty is playing, and may even spark some debate about the Invisible Coach.
Coetzer, well Looking on past information, Coetzer holds a 5-2 H2H over Patty, But their last meeting was over 2 years ago, Things have changed, Patty is somewhat of a newer person by what she tells us, and Amanda hasn't played all that well in the better part of last season.
It should be a good game, And it can go either way, Hopefully Patty has sustained her Jankovic Winning Ways and can win, Because I know she has the mind and the physical game to outsmart and outplay Amanda, any suggestions?

@ this point in their careers, she can probably beat Mandy (with Myskina being a toss-up). But the way the power hitters (except the unpredictable Momo in Zurich) figured her out last year, I think in the future most of them will Paste Patty.

I am going for Patty to win this match.Looking at my TV now,it looks very hot in Sydney,& Amanda is/was known to be one of the fittest players on court who thrives in the heat,so that may be a disadvantage to Patty...though in saying that I rememeber at the 1997 AO,Patty survived a tight match in the Melbourne heat & had to be put on a saline drip along with a few other players. And this was Patty's first time in Melbourne! So she must handle the heat pretty well too.
Anyway all that's left now to do is watch the match :)
Good Luck Patty & may this be a tight match, winner or loser :worship:

Well,Patty lost the match
She took a little while to get into the match but played a very good first set winning it 6-4 & played better for most of the second set & had break points on Amanda's serve, but everything started to go downhill when Patty thought she had an ace & it was called out. From there, she appeared to be mentally frail & was yelling at herself, clearly still thinking about the point she felt was against her.
The second set went to Coetzer 6-3,and the third set went 6-0 to Amanda too.Although in the 3rd set Patty appeared to be having trouble with her ankle which she sprained in QLD last week & wasn't running to her ususal points.
So even though a disappointing loss for Patty fan's,let's hope she her ankle is ready for Melbourne in a week's time & also that she works on her mental approach to the game a bit better.
We still love ya Patty  :)

I wonder If any Australians out their who would be kind enough to search around any Newspapers looking for a report or parts of an interview from Patty, if so that could be excellent
If you say it was the Ankle that may have effected her, I still think she put up a good fight, though she finished the whole match, Lets hope this early round exit will benefit her in the long run, So really not the best of starts for Patty, but nevermind

whatzup my fellow Patty Partisans? Happy '04 to all. I remember that '97 AO as well, it was incredibly hot that year, temps in the high 90s F for the entire 1st week. It hasn't been nearly as hot any of the years since then, the AO is probly due for another hot one like that. I checked on Yahoo and it was 85 F during Patty's match today in Sydney, hot but not outrageously hot, usually Patty plays her best tennis in sunny weather between 75 and 90 degrees so i think if anything the weather favored her game. Coetzer must have known about Patty's bad ankle and so i'm sure she was doing everything to keep the balls in play and make it long points and a long match, which is what she likes to do anyways. Patty has enough of a power game to hit Coetzer right off the court if her shots are going in, but Patty also needs a plan B to grind it out, if her offensive game is faltering, and judging by the way the match went today, she didn't really have a Plan B, possibly bcuz of the injury.

It just seems Vogus from what Llama said Patty just disintergrated from the line call, and from experiences that has topsy-turvied her game from that point on.
Points like that shouldn't matter know on, Ok It may have not gone your way, So build a bridge and get over it, Patty must of hung on to that point and thats where her game disintergrated as she was hung up on that point, and we know from past experiences thats what has happened before

I always check the papers for tennis news & my first priority is finding Patty's name included,so I will keep you guys updated for any news in the papers on her throughout the next two weeks from here.Unfortunately in today's paper her name was only included in the scoreline from her match with Coetzer, but I will keep looking ;)
I also videotaped her match so if I have time I may try & make some screen caps from the match.
As for Patty's ankle, she played (& lost) in a fairly tight doubles match last night against Davenport & Corina,so perhaps it was just feeling a little tender yesterday,or sadly that she just lost inspiration for the match.....

:: Patty loses in Sydney
13th January 2004
Patty lost to Amanda Coetzer of South Africa 6-4 3-6 0-6 in the first round in Sydney.
Patty's ankle was bothering her and Patty couldn't run as she normally does. She managed to win the first set but her movement wasn't good, especially in the third set and against a player like Coetzer that makes it
very difficult to play. Hopefully the ankle will be fully healed when the Australian Open starts
 Hope your 100% fit for Melbourne Patty!
Even though this isn't great news to hear,I was happy with the way Patty played before the third set.She played aggressively & appeared to be having no mental lapses, apart from the line call she felt was against her, which probably seemed all the worse with her sore ankle.
My fingers are tightly crossed for next week as I believe Patty has a terrific chance of doing some positive damage in Melbourne if fully fit :) Good Luck to her!!
