I feel better today, thanks for cold and flu medicine.
I'm now at the site. I think it would better to make some short report here because the internet conection here is so fast. (Still have many pictures to be uploaded, bad luck the internet conection at my hotel is so slow  )
Reached the site at 9:00, watched Lindsay and Alicia practicing. My first time meeting Lindsay, she is a smart girl. IMO, she still have rusty hitting her groundstroke (compared to Myskina). hope she will be OK for tomorrow match. After one hour practicing, she gave an autograph and I've taken her picture. (For you Vale : Lindsay smiles when I asked for her picture, please wait until tonight.) I've taken many pictures of Lindsay during her practicing. Kucera comes and starts to hit the ball with his coach or hitting partner (I'm not sure).
Watched Kim vs Hantu match which started at 10:00. Totally I would say Kim is better player, everything is better. Move faster, hit harder, serve better and more accuracy groundstroke. Kim won very easy 6-1,6-2. Have taken a couple pictures when Kim gave an interview. Also a couple pictures of Hantu.
Now Kucera vs Xavier match just start. I will be writing more after...
have fun.
Adding report :
Did not watch Kucera vs Xavier match but watched Marat and James was practicing at court 1. Marat hitted the ball fine both FH and BH. IMO, Marat still have physical problem on his leg. He did streching a lot (by trainer) after finish practicing. Santoro's dad also watched Marat practicing. I've taken shirtless picture of Marat and got his autograph as well.
I think Marat can beat any players if he does not have physical problem. Just wait and see for today match against France in night session.
Belgium leads Slovak 2-0. Now mixed double match is playing. I have to watch mixed double match. Bye....
The mixed double match finished at 15:00 with Belgium won 3 : 0. The night session match will be starting at 17:30 so I catched the train to Perth city. Return back to the site again after eating some chinese food.
Watched Momo vs Myskina match, Both players hit the ball so well. Myskina played well but Momo played better. Momo played some quality tennis today even Myskina attacked her BH but Momo did not miss that much. She saved so many break points with great serve. Momo had mental stronger than Myskina and won 6-2,7-6. My first time meet both player, Momo is a handsome-girl (please believe me).
Taken picture with Drake at Autograph Island. Watched a couple game of Marat vs Santoro match because I don't want to stay longer at the site. Met Mandula before leaving the site and taken picture with her.
I will be uploading only some today's photo by now.

They showed Lindsay on the tv before practising though I don't know if it was an old shot or not.
jirobkk, does Lindsay have blonder hair than last year and is it longer?
Because that's the footage they showed of her before practising.
Jan 5th, 2004, 10:40 AM
thank you :)
and glade you are feeling better:)
Jan 5th, 2004, 11:13 AM
I can't wait for your pictures!
Thanx so much for the reports, it means a lot to me. We Europeans hardly see anything from the Hopman Cup and thanks to you we get the feeling that we are there ourselves!!
Jan 5th, 2004, 11:14 AM
yes Nadine,Lindsay has blonder and longer hair since WTA Championships.didnt you see her in LA for the n.1 ceremony?
Jan 5th, 2004, 11:27 AM
Yeah I saw the ceremony but this was definitely way longer than I've seen her have it in a few years :)
That's why I asked if she had kept the look or if she had cut it.
Jan 5th, 2004, 11:28 AM
oh ok :) I think Jiro is watching matches right now so he'll answer all our questions later ;)
I had a great time. I went to the night session - Russia vs. France. I was surprised at how popular Marat was. I was glad.
Anastasia vs. Amelie - Nastya hits the ball flatter than I thought. Amelie has both power and depth in her shots. Compared to Serena last year, I'd have to say Amelie hits harder. But I know that Lindsay will hit harder than Amelie when they meet. Should be a good one. Back to the match. Amelie dominated. She was very confident and didn't panic when she was down. She was so calm and laid-back. She was making plenty of mistakes at the start of the second set and she knew that all she had to do to catch up was to stop making mistakes. Anastasia basically gave her the match despite leading 4-1 at one stage in the second. Amelie cut down on unforced errors and rammed it on home 6-2 7-6. Anastasia made plenty of errors. There were lots of good rallies, so it wasn't as though Anastasia wasn't being consistent, but it seemed Amelie outlasted her a lot of the time. Anastasia's backhand was letting her down at crucial times. I don't know if that's just first-match nerves, a mental issue or a technical issue. Because she hits the ball flat, a lot of her shots were hitting the tape of the net. I don't know how she's able to beat Justine if tonight's performance was normal for her. She was hitting the ball cleanly, just not making the shots when they were needed. She clearly has trouble volleying and I was horrified at her lack of court awareness in the mixed. Amelie ruled. PS. Daniela Hantuchova watched most of this match. I can gladly report that she does eat sometimes. She actually didn't eat much - one single, solitary, very small finger sandwich - but she did eat something. That's a bonus.
Marat vs. Fabrice - Fab wore the tightest white shorts I've seen on a guy since McEnroe in the eighties. How do his "boys" breathe? Although it did frame a very nice ass. Mm-mm. Nice indeed. Marat wore black, the bastard. Couldn't make out his ass at all. He was wearing an old adidas shirt - the black one with a strip of lime green. It was a yucky shirt. Is that adidas' latest design? It can't be. I've seen it around for ages. Marat, you'd look hot in silver, baby. He was cool to watch though. Fabrice did everything he could to make Marat play, but he wasn't getting the results he wanted. Usually, he messes with Marat's head but tonight, Marat wasn't going to be messed about. He took it one shot at a time and didn't lose patience despite still falling into some of Fabrice's traps. He kept on trucking and didn't capitulate. Is he maturing or just playing very well? He made a TON of foot faults. A lot of them were called, but plenty of them weren't. I was sitting right on the baseline, so I could tell. The lines judge on this one end was too busy daydreaming and watching the tennis to remember to call him on it. Bah. Marat won convincingly 6-3 6-3. I wanna see some butt next time, Marat! But he was ever so kind to flash some abs action occasionally. ;)
Mixed Doubles - Fabrice was the master, and Amelie was more than capable of backing him up. Fabrice said that this match was the first time he'd ever won a mixed doubles match, and the first time he'd ever played with Amelie. Ah, you can see the connection he was trying to make there. ;) The Russians could've done better because Marat was paying well, but Anastasia couldn't support him the way Amelie was doing for Fabrice. Anastasia isn't comfortable at the net, and whenever there was a net rally, she'd start backing away, leaving herself open to be attacked, which she was, time after time. She needed to go forward and pressure the incoming French players. She and Marat had prime position at the net plenty of times, but she would start backing away as soon as she saw Fabrice or Amelie come in to join them. It was excruciating to watch because she did this so many times, and the only reason they managed to get 7 games was because Marat was making enough shots for the both of them. One thing Anastasia did do very well was return smashes. She rifled a backhand at Fabrice off one of his smashes and he was helpless. It was brilliant. The Russians were constantly being bullied at the net by the French, and they were especially attacking Anastasia, rallying with her, just toying with her. When she did finally put up a weak lob or flub a weak shot, the French pounced. It was almost a forgone conclusion. She didn't hold serve once. But the good thing for her was that she helped to break Fabrice twice! Marat dropped his serve once I think. No, wait, he nearly did and survived match points in the process. Amelie always held all her service games. The French rounded out a 6-3 6-4 victory.
The French will be tough to beat in the mixed, especially if Amelie can get them off to flying starts like that. She will definitely push Lindsay and probably beat her. Fabrice could possibly give James Blake something to think about, but even if he can't, he and Amelie can go into the mixed full of confidence.
Playing this well, the French could even make the final. The Russians will need to pull their socks up if they are to stand a chance in Group A. The Czechs may not be as difficult for them, but Jiri Novak is the one they should watch out for. He can play. Barbora Strycova is no Jelena Dokic, but I don't think even Jelena Dokic could have taken on three very strong Top 10 players in her HC debut and survived to tell about it. The Russians need to work on their mixed doubles. Anastasia should be encouraged to stay in the net ralliesand come forward when she has the opportunities, not retreat and expose a weak spot. Marat may look like he is built like a wall, but he isn't. He can only stick his racquet out so far to help his partner. He played better matches with Elena Likhovtseva. She at least had a clue on the doubles court. Pity Marat wasn't playing nearly as well back then than he is now.

I must have been in sleepy mode when I asked that question - actually not turning on images and only viewing one pic also causes you to be in stupid sleepy mode :)

Marat is awesome. I'm looking forward to his matches against "Jeeri" Novak'n'Goode (no, I love him really) and James Blake. I'm surprised how popular he is in Perth. I knew Marat was liked worldwide but didn't expect the kind of reception he received in Perth. He's a bonafide star, I guess, and he seems to appreciate the attention and gives a lot back, always hoping he doesn't disappoint the fans with any bad tennis. He's a good boy, really. Not the bad boy he pretends to be. And he loves his mummy. Awww. Actually, I don't know if that last part is true but he seems like he would seeing as how he respects women in general and adores Dinara.
Unfortunately jirobkk, I won't be going again until Friday for the double-header to check out Marat. I might go watch Amelie play Barbora first though, but I don't want to miss a minute of Anastasia vs Lindsay either. Oh, the quandry of it all. I'll be watching the rest of the tournament on TV. I really miss going. If the tickets weren't so expensive and I didn't feel like dying towards the exciting end of the tournament every year, I'd go to every session again. It's probably good I didn't get the tickets since I have work most of this week. I was lucky to get off work on Friday. Maybe next year I'll buy more sessions and get C-Reserve tickets. They're cheaper and the view is just as good, if not, better than the bloody premium seats I had on Monday night (expensive seats for a bad view isn't worth it). I couldn't see over this other guys' head. It's really bad towards the upper half of the lower tier. Enough of me blabbing. Thanks again for all the pictures, jirobkk. They're ace! :)
