It's the points you get for beating a player of a certain rank.
For example if someone would beat Justine Henin-Hardenne at a Grand Slam, they would receive 200 extra points on top of their normal round points.
There are quality points for beating every player ranked above 500, and the amount of points received depends on the rank of the loser as well as the tournament's tier.

They're the points a player earns for beating their opponents. Only players in the Top 500 are worth any points.
