10 times the winner was a Martina. And for those who are misled by the imperfect stats of the Big Blonde le, le, lefthander take note: she lost her first final in Tracy's amazing 4-peat PRIOR to becoming the "lean, mean, winning machine". (That was "repaid").
She lost a final in a 3rd set TB @ age 35, then won the next year @ 36. :worship:

Interesting that Steffi Graf has never won it, despite the tournament being in Germany. She only made the final a staggering ONCE - in her rookie year on tour!

That's because only great players win there, not amateurs :p.

So that Lindqvist (the only name listed I didn't know, besides Sherry Acker) beats Steffi one year, then loses the next to... Pam Shriver!

did Monica never play here ? I noticed that too, though she'd have had only a few chances through '92 to make the final, of course.

Catarina was a great player from Sweden with the first classically beautiful one-handed backhand. It was a lovely shot to watch. She was also a Wimbledon semi-finalist. I saw in the Challengers forum she's still out there playing some club exhos- she must be 40 now!!!

Wow, Anke played well there. It looks like one of those tournaments that some pple consistently do well at over the years.

Guess what, Simon. Not only that, but Anke is now the Director of Player Services. With Tournament Director Udo Cervellini having added responsibilies given Porsche's tour sponsor role, she'll probably move up to Filderstadt TD in the next year or two. Recent players in that job seems 2B a trend, like with Jana Novotna @ the Seat Open and Richard Krajicek in Rotterdam (starting in '04).
