She has won all her indoor meetings with Venus. I think it's fair to say her domination over Venus "indoors" is official.
I made a silly thread about her domination over Venus but I didn't mean to refer to any surface. Now, it's just about indoor matches.
what do you think?
Why is Maggie so good against her? What does she do differently to deal with her power?

So, if I understand what the Williams fans here want to say, is that whoever you beat, the most important is winning titles?

What about the excuses about the "asterisk" at the US Open because the Williams sisters weren't there?

bandabou
Nov 26th, 2003, 04:04 PM
Wrong example, juju_fan. Some playersīs fan wanna make a big deal when their players beat a Williams, when in the end they didnīt win the tournament anyways. Beating a Williams shouldnīt be the point, the point should be WINNING the tournament.

Justine winning the Open?! Interesting, because prior to this year Justine has NEVER been past the fourth round and has never beaten the the winner/finalists of the past two years and the winnres for four straigth years on hardcourts.

But no asterix...winning is winning.

So you believe that Mrs.Henin-Hardenne would've been content with beating Serena and losing the French to Kim?

The fact that neither sister whom have owned the title from 99'-02'
weren't there in 03' gives some credence to the argument of that "asterisk". It's not as if they didn't want to contend.

So, sure the Belgians beat those who attended
and for that they earned the title. The "aterisk" comes in that the two most dominant players weren't there. Sure, maybe it might not have made a difference if they were but, they weren't and their will always be some speculation as to weather or not Henin-Hardenne who has never beaten either sister on the surface which the title was contested could've won if they were present.

Henin-Hardenne won fair and square against all whom
were in attendence. :)

Well honestly i don`t agree at all with this thread, it happens that Maggie is leading this head to head more by Venus`s error prone play than anything great my Maggie.

The first meeting in 1995 more than an unexperienced Venus, then 2001, Venus was coming from playing horrible at the Australian Open losing 6-1 6-1 to Martina Hingis, and her two previous matches before facing Maleeva were 7-6 7-6 vs Sidot and 6-4 7-6 vs Tu, doubtfully she was playing good tennis in that period, and as for the last match in Moscow, Venus had not played at all since losing to Serena in the Usopen final 3 weeks earlier, by the way Maggie proved to have a great week by winning the whole event and playing excelent tennis. But overall i don`t think Maggie could be considered by any mean a better player than Venus, on any surface.

Great post bandabou. They all are like that they do not care about the titles they main objective is to beat Venus. Don't you know when you beat a williams you automatically become famous. Beating a williams is like winning Wimbeldom. Watch Meghann and Chanda play Venus and then watch how they play other players. They go after the sisters with a vengance and when they face other players you wonder it it's the same player.

Ainīt that just the truth?! Meghann beats Venus in straigths and nearly bagels her and then all of sudden she BARELY BARELY beats a JUNIOR-player?!

Chanda NEARLY NEARLY beats Venus and does beat Serena and canīt take a SINGLE set off Kim who the Williamses practically own?!

Maggie is undoubtfully one of the best indoors players on the tour. She does own Venus in that surface, 3 times out of 3 is not a fluke. I don't know why Venus' fans take offense? Maggie's record against Venus is remarkable because Venus is such a great player. People always put Arantxa down because her h2h with the greatest is not that good, you have to give it to Maggie when it comes to her H2H with Venus. It *is* impressive.

Great, great, wins for Maggie...but if Iīm not mistaken only once did she go on to win the tournament and that was last year.

But, you will agree that 1 out of 3 is still better than Venus. If I am not mistaken, out of the two times Venus has defeated Maggie she has gone on to win the tournament zero times (ASV won Sydney'98 and Capriati won AO'02) :p ;)

Don't put Maggie down just because. She's a great player indoors. That doesn't take from the fact that Venus is a great champion. Both things are non exclusive.

True, I didn't see it :D

I went to check on WTA tour whether ASV had truly won Sydney'98 or I had just imagined it while you posted your answer :p ;) ... one has a tendency to remember Arantxa's exploits as greater than they actually were ;)

Wow! Williams fans come up with so many excuses when it comes to the Williams sisters. Whenever they lose, its because they 'were tired, inexperienced, lacked match-toughness or made a lot of errors' but every time someone loses to the sisters its case 'the sisters were just too good for them'

and RE: maggie's record

Maggie's bitch-slaping of Venus on Carpet kinda reminds me of Serena's inability to win against Justine on clay.

I think this record says more about Maggie than Venus. Indoor tennis has controlled conditions. No sun, no wind, no rain, no bees, no airplanes. I've always felt that what their head-to-head means is that Maggie is a VERY good player in perfect conditions. Without the elements creating instability, she can stay on the court with the power merchants.

Maggie was a top tenplayer. She isn't chopped liver.

Maggie owns Venus Indoors and I can say she is the better player indoors, besides Venus has not won the year ending championship yet to prove her caliber indoors.

So yes!!! Maggie dominates Venus Indoors.

Ok, 1995 doesn't count, Nice 2001, Venus was slightly injured, but good job Maggie, and 2002 Maggie scraped by even when Venus was playing horribly. This isn't domination.
