Momo AO 1999 vs Momo AO 2004? Who would win?

The 1999 version was rawer, more powerful physically (able to overpower the likes of Lindsay), less weighed down with cares.

The current version has cut back a little on the raw power but is a far more complete player.

Who wins if they meet in, say, a slam semi?

Discuss.

04 Amelie easily. Momo 99 may have been uubere powerful, but she was mentally shakey (even more so than she can be now), she couldn't volley for her life, she didn't have the finesse she has now, and anyways, Momo can still hit as hard as she needs to.

Momo now def. Momo then 6-4; 6-4

How would we know since we're yet to see 2004 Momo? ;)

pfff. Assume the 2004 AO version is unchanged from the 2003 Fed Cup final version. It's a lot less neat putting it that way.

five years more for training, visiting all types of game (especiacally the net :D) and learning of live which was not easy until 99

well the wome's game has changed so yuo cant really say which player is better as the players in today's game have also vastly improved than what they were like in 1999. hence, she may be at the same elvel as she was in 1999 as she will be in 2004 compared with the rest of women's tennis day.

im sooooooo confused in writing that :p

Amelie's much better now than she was then.

That doesn't mean she'd automatically beat the Amelie of 1999 though ;) - she likes to make it hard for herself :(.

I say that the 1999 "raw" version of Momo would give anyone a scare if she could be time-warped to today. Still, the current version is a very complete player except perhaps mentally.

Momo 2003/2004 d. Momo 1999 3-6 7-5 6-2

The 99 vintage may have overpowered Lindsay at the AO, but Lins had her figured out by that fall, as had a few others. And as has been pointed out, if you think the's a headcase NOW? Sheesh.

No way 99 Momo goes undefeated in Fed Cup - she cracks against Myskina and possibly even Lisa Raymond, had the team gotten that far.

04 Momo has more weapons, more confidence, and if she's has less power she does a far better job of harnessing what she has. Even if 04 manages to lose the first set to 99, she wakes up in the second set and takes command. I'd actually put money on it.

*agrees with Griffin*

- but you're forgetting one thing about the 1999 Momo - she wore those delicious shorts which could quite easily throw off the Momo of 2004. Her eyes wouldn't be quite on the prize!

I think Amelie is getting alot tougher mentally and 2004 could be a big yr for her.

Yep....Momo is better now that she was back then. Right now she only folds against two players: Serena and Kim, but she´s a better player. She just needs one big win to get over that hump.

 but true :hearts:

Like a fine Bordeaux, she's getting better with age :) Plus, the 2004 entourage beats the 1999 one by a mile ;)

 Oh! She went there!

what, you didn't like "The Munsters"?

I don't think the shorts distracted her, mauresmofan (moi, on the other hand..) but on a few occasions I think they cut off the flow of blood to her brain judging by the way she played ;)
