Geznenge/Hejdova are in the Deauville doubles final :woohoo:

Dabek/Krastevitch are in the Pueble doubles semi-finals ;) :yeah:

Dabek/Krastevitch reached the final of Pueble, but they lost 1-6, 5-7. dimana played so well the last weeks in doubles. think for philadelphia, as she and svetlana krivencheva reached the second round andf lost 5-7, 2-6. it was a great achievement. she and geznenge could pair up with maggie in the olympics and the fedcup. perhaps krivencheva.

Well I can read and understand a lot of it since it's so simular to Dutch, but I can't really speak it and certainly not write it.
My brother and sister learned it at school but I was more interested in math then in languages so...
Nice to hear from someone else once. It seems pretty hard to really get in here when you're new.
Maggie lost her doubles so we wont hear from her anymore for a few days.

Well, I am here in this section for months, but......
I expected that lost, really..... She is an Grass and Indoor HC specialist, so I don´t expect too much, but those looses show me how much worser her game got in the last years. Since 2002 she struggels on this surface. Just one or two QF at Tier II´s are not enough for a Top-15- player!!!!
I discuss with some Germans about it and they really think the same. She has to get a stronger body to get a shot, that puts her opponent under pressure. Otherwise I see her winning two matches in a row not before Birmingham or RG perhaps!

You're probably very right. I didn't have the chance to follow Maleeva's matches a lot except all the ones against Kim or Justine, but now that I (finally) have internet it's gonna be easier. In Antwerpen (hardcourt) she was indeed very good, she was even better then Kim the first set but she made too many stupid mistakes on the very wrong moments. I watched my video of that match a few times and she could have had a chance I think. If she comes to Antwerpen next year I ll be there to support her even if she plays Kim! Too bad she won't play to many years anymore. Hope she'll be like Navratilova, who's still playing doubles once in a while.
Have fun

I doubt it dough. I'm trying to get it on the net somehow, I just don't know how yet. When I got it figured out I'll put it on this site first so all the Maggie (and the others) fans will be able to see it.
If I had a dvd I could record on it wouldn't have been a problem!

Two former players die in plane crash

By JON SOLOMON

Staff Writer

CLEMSON — Two former Clemson women’s tennis players died in a plane crash Saturday night near the Grand Canyon, school officials confirmed Monday.

Milena Stanoycheva, 26, and Ania Dolinska, 22, were among four people killed when the plane crashed while en route to Las Vegas, where Stanoycheva was to be married that night..

Also killed were Stanoycheva’s fiancee, Albert Glen Howle, 33, of Greenville; and his father Jerry Howle, 57, of Reno, Nev., who was piloting the amateur-built plane.

Stanoycheva was still enrolled in graduate school at Clemson. She was an All-ACC player two years ago. Dolinska played at Georgia State this season after transferring in 2003. She earned three varsity letters at Clemson.

The single-engine plane was heading to North Las Vegas when it crashed about a mile from the Grand Canyon due to unknown reasons, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman told the Associated Press.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.

The pilot had been speaking with a traffic controller when contact with the plane was lost, the FAA said. The crash occurred south of the Grand Canyon on the Hualapai Indian Reservation and was witnessed by people on the canyon’s North Rim, officials told the AP.

“It’s such a terrible loss," Clemson coach Nancy Harris said.

The women met in 2001, when Stanoycheva transferred from a junior college and Dolinska arrived as a freshman, and became fast friends.

"Ania always looked up to Milena," said current tennis player Richele LeSaldo, who was roommates and played doubles with them as a freshman.

"Ania would joke around and say, ‘Milena’s my mom.’”

Stanoycheva, originally from Bulgaria, had a 30-28 singles record and a 26-24 doubles mark during her two seasons. She was Clemson’s No. 3 singles player in 2001 and made the All-ACC team in 2002 at No. 6 singles with a 22-16 record.

Stanoycheva graduated from Clemson in May 2003 with a degree in management and was pursuing a master’s in human resource development, assistant sports information director Anne Miller said. Both women were academic All-Americans.

Dolinska, a native of Poland, was 26-27 as a singles player and 39-44 in doubles between 2001 and 2003.

She played primarily on Clemson’s No. 2 and 3 doubles teams before transferring to Georgia State, where she was the No. 5 singles at last month’s Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.

Harris and LeSaldo remembered Stanoycheva as a caring person always looking to help, and Dolinska for how she lived life to its fullest.

Dolinska’s daring side was evident when the Clemson players, participating in a team-bonding exercise, once walked on a rope 30 feet above the ground.

“Milena and I were so scared,” LeSaldo said. “We’d stop and rest at different stations to cry, and we’d look back and see Ania breezing through with a huge smile on her face. She liked risks like that.”

Clemson players learned of the deaths in a team meeting Sunday night after celebrating their NCAA Tournament victory against South Carolina. Several current players were teammates with Stanoycheva and Dolinska.

“They’re tremendously upset. It was very devastating news for them,” Harris said. “It really takes your nerves away from tennis and puts a lot of things in perspective.”

When Clemson plays a round-of-16 match Thursday against Texas A&M, the players will wear a white tiger paw with the women’s initials on their sleeves.

Harris had recently received a Bulgarian doll from Stanoycheva that she always wanted to give her coach.

Last Friday, Stanoycheva sent an e-mail message congratulating Harris on the team’s success and wishing the Tigers luck.

Harris read the message to the team Sunday night.

“She was so proud of us for having a great season, and she said she was sure we could win the national championship,” LeSaldo said. “She said she was keeping her fingers crossed and she’d be watching out for us.”

Milena's brother is best player in Bulgarian tennis history and Davis Cup captain Orlin Stanoytchev

Hi!

Is bulgarian language similar to serbian? I think it is a bit. What do you think ghosts and crazillo? Is it hard? I think about taking a course of it?

P.S I know that someone of you two, use Babolat VS Touch string as Maggie. What price do you get it and where? Thanks in advance.

Maggie does use Yonex strings doesnt she? I have a Yonex racket with a Babolat string and I bought it in our shop. It costed 43 Euro including working.

I dont know much about bulgarian language. If u wanna cheer her, say Aide

Actually Maggie uses Babolat VS Touch 16 (1.30) strung at 30/29 or 31/30. I have done two string jobs for her in Warsaw. She uses Babolat, but endorases Yonex.

I saw Maggie this year at the addidas international. She was hitting up with Angela Haynes (at the start i thought it was sonja jeyseelan, but after a while i recognized it was angela). I heard Angela shout to Maggie across the court: "Just think, when you finnish this, you'll be as fit as me!". I wasn't sure whether to laugh or not in case Maggie may have taken it personally, or whether Angela hadn't meant it to be a joke. Luckily for me i didn't laugh because neither of them did :tape:
When Maggie came of court she signed my ball and i wished her luck in the doubles with Daniela (I knew she had lost 6-0 6-0 in singles to Martinez  ) and she replied "Thank you" :hearts: Maggie is really nice!

I know that she needs some better results
but I also doubt she would play $10k tournaments to regain form
I suppose she'll wait for some weaker $25k's and 50k's so that she can play qualies...

How was the Dessi-Tzvetana match?
Tzvetana was dominating every rally but I still think she wasn't as good as she was at Fed Cup in July... Dessi was trying her best attempting drop shots and mixing up the pace
Was trying to be positive but simply couldn't take the initiative throughout the match
Several times Tzvetana saved break points with great winners and was fighting back from 0-30 on Dessi's serve which helped her mentally a lot ;)

I think it was a good January for bulgarian female tennis. We had, as always, Maggie Maleeva in the draws, but a new face has played very well in two tournaments also, her name: Sesil Karatancheva.
Maggie reached the Quaters at the Gold Coast and lost to Sam Stosur in a great fight, Stosur should go on to two straight finals. In Sydney, she lost to the in-form Patty Schnyder after a first-round win. At the Open, a win over her nemesis Magui Serna and a good victory over Jidkova marked her way to Round 3, where she lost to Petrova, but not without putting up a nice fight, although she could have won 1 set. Maleeva laso won her only doubles tourney so far this year, with Elena Likhovtseva, but sadly didn't partner her at Melbourne. An OK start for Maggie, all her losses came to good players.
Sesil qualified for the MD at Gold Coast in great style, defeating the first seed and making her way in the MS to the quarters (upsetting Likhovtseva).b She lost to the in.form Schnyder, who was a Bulgarian nemesis this month (surprisinlgy, considering Maleeva's streak against Patty a while ago).
At the Open, she had to qualiify and did convincingly in great style (as the first seed of Q) and had a hard draw vs. Sharapova, but showed what she could, going down 3 and 1. Still a month to be proud of for her.
It is the first month since a long while where two BUL's were top-100. Since Bacheva is gone and Maggie pretty old, we have to hope for sesil and Pironkova in the future. A first step has been done, but we still have experience and young gun together at the moment.
Hopefully it was a good first month for an awesome year 2005. :wavey:

yeah, Sascha I also think it was a great month (still not over tho, Pironkova is playing in Belfort ;) )
I'm really proud with Sesil!!! I could never believe that despite losing 3 and 1 I'd be so satisfied with her. She develop her skills so fast and she's so young :D
She won matches against very good opponents and lost to great ones like Schnyder and Sharapova.
Same for Maggie, who could have beaten Stusur tho. She had the biggest chance to do that after Schnyder, Molik and Mauresmo, but... I hope she'll do well and defend many of her points in Tokyo next week :)
As for Pironkova - there's still the unleashed big potential and I believe that soon we'll be hearing her name from other posters more and more ;)

Yeah it was great! I am so happy with the performance of Maggie and Sesil. I mean, of course it could be better but especially for Maggie, I see where she was the end of the last year and where she is now. It's only positive. I saw her with Petrova and she is happy playing tennis, she is in great shape and it's sure she feels good on the court. And about Sesil, I already said largely enough- her time will come soon, it's absolutely enough what she did already.

Now I want soooo bad that Tzveti wins this tournament and move to some 50Ks. Ghosts, you know her the best from us here, why she doesn't go to 50Ks? She was in the draw of one 50K during the end of last year and she pulled out. Do you have an idea why? Anyways, good luck fo her.

It was and will be a great January for the Bulgarian tennis. I have an impression that the game becomes more popular in Bulgaria which means more youngsters coming to it and a good chance to have more and more good players. The only thing we need is a good school which can prepare them and if we look in the future, I am sure Maggie will have something to say about this :D .

That's true.
I a, also sure she would allow players to be better than her. I don't know if that is true with her mum...
Svetlana Krivencheva played well for her, too. I think. :D
Pavlova not - but we are used to that......

whose mum, Sascha?!

Tzvetana plays next week 75k (atleast she's still committed)
I'm sure she prefers playing 25k main draw instead of 75k qualies...

now she's in Belfort just because she has a semi-final to defend

I suppose her main aim is to play Roland Garros qualies so she'll use 5-6 of her 9 remaining tournaments (until September) before that
making it shouldn't be a problem, as she has to defend only 23 points in the next four months ;)

I remember Sesil talking about her dad who offended Maggie's mum to not allow any child in Bulgaira to be better than her sisters. I am sure Maggie would allow that if she cud do something for the sport in Bulgaria.

GL Tzveti!

Let's try to revive this thread by making it a bit different ;)

Sascha, Svetlana didn't retire last week
she played this week in the $25k too, lost in the second q round to Mueller

Geznenge is already in Sunderland main draw, where hopefully Topalova turns up too
Dimana had an injury and hasn't recovered still

what a crap week :(

I would say what a crap month :fiery:

Oh well, I am still mad because of Maggie's loss, I must say she played very, very well in Antwerp and very good in Paris. I was delighted with her play, I am unfair a bit now but tomorrow I'll be ok ;) .

Let's hope nevertheless that March will be better for ALL of your players! Do someone have an idea where Tzveti will play and how much tournaments she has under her AER count?

I am not at Maggie, I think all of her her losses last year were worse than this today, because she didn't choke (she played as bad as before to say it that way :p).

Now I can't remember how she looks like nor how she plays
I was watching another match...

I just remember that she was playing vs Nadejda Vassileva and Vassileva was playing very bad, Kostova won the first set but the match wasn't watchable at all
(but after all then she was 13 and was playing the National Championship) :)

Maggie the playing captain  ......... Usually this is the case when a career is over, but you cannot find somebody else (i.e. Wayne). Hope the best. :D But why a "???" for the 4th player?
