Thanks TBE :D

Hopefully if Lina can have a good showing at the Gold Coast, a top 24 seed is hers and avoids a 3r clash with a top 8 seed :yeah:

I wonder if Venus will get a protective seeding. Does the player request it or does the tournament make the decision?

Can Shinobu move up to 40?

Myskina will move up to the top five this year.

Can Shinobu move up to 40?

possibly but that wont get her seeded, thats what this thread is for (32 seeds).
i put it down to 40 so you can see how many pts they are away.

It'll be a shame Nathalie won't get seeded, and not help her case at all. Hopefully she'll get put in with a weak seed.

Daniilidou and Dechy is in danger...

I think Tammy still have a good chance..

i've already taken pts off.
Eleni is on 1025.75 after her title pts taken off (and 18th added), so she'll be safe.

Realistically, there's 1 seed to go for, Mary's 32 place
but if Monica Seles is bumped up, that's gonna be effectively that.

What is the approximate cut-off WTA ranking for direct entrance into the main draw? Anyone know? Thanks in advance!!!

It's a shame that Mary won't get seeded if Monica gets an injury protected ranking, but I want Monica to do well here, so I've got mixed feelings here. Sometimes it works out better for a player in Mary's shoes to not get seeded, and to play a "weaker" higher seed earlier in the tournament.

Not being seeded hasn't bothered Maam one little bitty at the last 2 Slams - Maam can look out for herself!

venus should be seeded 3 or 4. none of those other players are going to beat her anyway...

commitments wont be out for another 2 weeks or so
deadline for entry is Dec 8.

Seles i dont think she'll get a special seed.
only 1 person is allowed it at a time.

Are you crazy?!? Seles is a four-time champ and has only lost three times here! They should certainly give her a special seeding--they don't want her out in the first or second round!

*ahem shouldn't you be saying that they shouldn't want Monica to put out one of the top seeds in the first or second rounds :p *

yea, i think monica will be seeded... highly. her injury ranking is 18, but they may give her #16 for safety measure... and even then we may unfortunately have people above that pulling out.

From Yahoo Sports:

Tennis Australia said Friday that only three of the top 100 women are not committed to the year's first Grand Slam event -- No. 50 Iroda Tulyaganova; No. 71 Virginie Razzano, who is injured; and No. 60 Monica Seles, a four-time Australian Open winner.

IMO its not always such an advantage. Being 32, 31 seed or whatever will pit you against one of the top seeds in the third round. Without such a seeding, the draw *may* be much nicer. Depends though on the draw, if your not seeded could be Kim or someone first round!

Do you guys realize that I just now realized that Venus is not in the top 10

I have followed ZERO tennis since Wimbledon

Come on Venus girl, let's get it togetha with Serena!

LOL.... I like the seeds. Seeing the entry list for Auckland and Hobart, Eleni should keep a lot of her points. A seed in the top 24 is what she should be vying for!

I don't get it -- how come the commitments haven't been released if the entries closed on Dec 8??

But where can we find the lists? Do we have to wait for Babsi (jello on Babsi Forum) to post all lists?? Ithink she may have the Aussie List...

Pistolesi in 17th...
She must do well in Auckland!!!

I have a question... the Sydney points don't affect the seedings, but doesn't that mean you shouldn't take the points from lasy year off?
such confusing method... i have a much better way of doung this:
1) Serena
2) Venus
3) Pistolesi (i meant Smashnova... whatever!)

At best Venus can be put at number 5 as her protected rank is 4 and when you use this you always follow the actual ranked player... CASE CLOSED!

I'm sure Maam knows exactly what she's doing cause there is always a last minute withdrawl of a top player. Maam will be seeded for the Open whether that means she has to do a Tonya Harding or not!

Looks like Maam will be seeded after all with the possible and probable withdrawls of Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams, Jennifer Capriati, Jelena Dokic and Patty Schnyder. So Maam can put the batton back into her bag :p
