View Full Version : News for you on Alicia's foot injury

Oct 25th, 2003, 05:11 AM
Alicia retired with a left plantar fascia (foot ligament) tear in her match against Chanda Rubin. Its the same injury to her right foot that she suffered in her first round match at the Australian Open.

Molik won a tight first set 7-5, then Rubin picked up her form, surging to a 5-1 second set lead, Alicia held serve, recovered a break to trail 5-4, but with Rubin serving for the set at 30-0, Alicia ran forward to retrieve a drop shot when she rolled her foot again.

Molik pulled up hurt immediately and after the trainer/doctor looked at it she decided to retire, at least she didnt try to play on this time.

Unless further tests prove initial tests wrong in the seriousness of the injury, Alicia's season is over. She'll decide later today when she wakes up exactly what she'll be doing after she's had another specialist look at her right foot.

Most likely she'll fly straight back to her new home in Inner Eastern Melbourne, to have further testing done when most of the swelling has gone down.

I'm hoping its not as severe as last time when she actually tore one her ligaments right of the bone!

The Hopman Cup should be a great place to start her comeback. She has enough time to make a full recovery before then providing she puts all her efforts into the rehab like last time.

She'll most likely be getting Michael Klims dad to help her again in her recovery. He was successful last time in helping her maintain most of her fitness with low impact training in the pool at his home in Melbourne.

I wonder if Alicia still has these special shoes she had to wear last time. They dont have a heal on them, designed to reduce all impact around the heal/ankle.

Poor Alicia!! Its a pity she had to retire when she had such a good chance of winning that match. At least she will only have to miss out on one tournament.
Best Wishes for your recovery!! I hope she is well enough to play the hopman cup because I will get to see her there!!!

To be ready by the Hopman cup would be fantastic. That place has good memories for her, its on home soil and its more relaxed than a WTA tournament.
