I'm pretty sure Elena is gona make it to the YEC and thought she needs her own cheering thread (not the other one which is cheering the downfall of Venus).

So good luck to Elena! I hope she recreates the magic she showed at the Chase 2000.

Kick ass girl! :)

Good luck here Elena!!!! You can do lots of damage!

Oct 22nd, 2003, 12:52 PM
Yep, I think Elena can do some major damage too! I think she is very underrated indoors and definitely has the power game to trouble the Blegians and Williams.

Gooooo Elena! :)

I saw Elena when she defeated Chanda in Bali. It was a wonderful tennis she played. Her acuracy in putting forehand balls right on the line had caused big troubles to the top seed player.

She's beautiful and friendly. I got her signatures on my tournament guide books.

I hope she'll do her best in The Championships.

 Dementieva Qualifies for WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche

October 27, 2003

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – World No. 8 Elena Dementieva has qualified for the Bank of America WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche, the WTA Tour announced today, setting the stage for a furious chase during this final week for the remaining spots in the coveted field.

Dementieva, 21, is currently seventh in the Porsche Race to the Championships standings with 2,324 points. One of the rising stars on the WTA Tour, Dementieva of Russia has flourished this season, winning three tournaments (Amelia Island, Bali and Shanghai) and reaching four other semifinals (Paris Indoors, Toronto, New Haven and Moscow).

Dementieva joins World No. 1 Kim Clijsters, World No. 2 Justine Henin-Hardenne, Jennifer Capriati and Amelie Mauresmo in the eight-player round robin singles field at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. World No. 3 Serena Williams and World No. 4 Lindsay Davenport both qualified for the WTA Tour Championships, but have withdrawn because of injuries.

There are six players – Anastasia Myskina (2,244 points), Venus Williams (2,211 points), Ai Sugiyama (2,124 points), Chanda Rubin (2,116 points), Nadia Petrova (1,862 points) and Vera Zvonareva (1,831 points) – waging a fierce battle for the remaining three singles spots. All of those players except Venus Williams are entered in this week’s Advanta Championships in Philadelphia, which is the final chance to clinch a place in the WTA Tour Championships. Only 413 points separate the six players.

Depending on bonus points, Myskina will likely qualify if she avoids an early-round upset. Sugiyama and Rubin could earn spots if they at least reach the quarterfinals. Petrova or Zvonareva have only a mathematical chance to earn a ticket to Los Angeles.

This year’s WTA Tour Championships features a new format that involves eight players competing in a round-robin singles format that pays the winner a record-tying $1 million, equaling the largest winner’s check in women’s sports.

Oct 29th, 2003, 11:55 AM
Go Elena! :) :woohoo:

Oct 30th, 2003, 06:38 PM
Sure we want her to win, but to be honest she might be just to tired. I hope that's not true.

Nov 1st, 2003, 04:09 PM
I don't think Elena will be too tired. She will have had three weeks off by next Weds! :)

Physically I think she can survive, its the mental challenge of staying in the points.

Having played no matches, I hope she's stored up her mental energy and is ready to fight at the YEC.

She really has a chance of going far in this tournament. I'm really looking forward to watching her on TV! :)

Good luck to Elena :D!

go elena dementieva!!!

Nov 3rd, 2003, 09:53 AM
I think Elena can beat anyone in her group.
Elena is fresh.
Though Kim will be the toughest, Elena can do it.
Good luck Elena in LA!

Nov 3rd, 2003, 10:16 AM
Goo Elena :D:D

Nov 3rd, 2003, 10:22 AM
What a group for Elena!! Although it is just the group I would want for her.

Elena seems to have Chanda's number recently, so I hope she can continue her fine play against her! :)

Amelie, well Amelie is inconsistent. She can be really good or really bad. Amelie has just won a title, but will be tired. Elena knows how to beat her (plus she'll want revenge! ;))

Kim: They haven't played since 2001. Both have improved enormously since then. Kim has played a lot too, and if Elena can surprise her, we could see victory!

I hope Elena can make it to the SFs!! :)

Nov 3rd, 2003, 11:06 PM
i am going to be realistic here:

i truly, honestly think that alyona has a storn,g valid chance at making the semifinals

vs Rubin- i predict dementieva over rubin, straight sets... rubin has been choking against hard-hitting top players

vs. Mauresmo- VERY inconsistent... for me, this is the match of ALL of the matches in the round robins [take away jen/justine rematch].. if elena wins this... she makes the semis

vs. CLijsters: too much of a threat for elena.. unless she is playing her best BEST tennis.. kim will prevail in straight sets :(

this will give her a 2-1 record, allowing her to qualify... if the clijsters/dementieva match is played first, and dementieva wins... she will win this whole thing

Nov 4th, 2003, 04:00 AM
Good luck, Elena. Kim is a really tough opponent, but if you concentrate on every point and play just like the way you did at AI and Bali, you can beat her. Kim is not an unbeatable player, so you have a chance.

Nov 4th, 2003, 09:19 AM
Good luck Elenka. :)

Nov 5th, 2003, 06:52 AM
Good luck against Kim; nobody is unbeatable, Elena!

Nov 5th, 2003, 08:48 AM
Good luck Elena! This is the time to show your stuff and get some huge bonus points for defeating Kim! :D

Fight hard baby!!!

I saw in another thread that they will be showing Capriati-Sugiyama on ESPN2 (but maybe they might show Elena vs Kim in their taped session?)

I have no idea about that.

Elena needs to play well in a big tournament. And this is a big tournament. Anything less than the semifinals would be a dissapointment.

Udachi Elena! :bounce:

Nov 5th, 2003, 07:37 PM

Chanda won. It's not bad for Lena.
Good Luck, Lena! Your move!

Nov 6th, 2003, 11:22 AM
So Elena needs to beat Amelie and Chanda now.
Good luck against Amelie!

Nov 6th, 2003, 12:20 PM
Good luck against Amelie today. I hope she took some notes from Chanda and will be ready to attack.

This is an essential win for both of them, I just hope Elena is up to the challenge! :)

Good luck, rip that forehand!

Nov 8th, 2003, 03:14 PM
Good luck against Chanda today!

Nov 8th, 2003, 04:12 PM
Good luck against Chanda! :)

Fight hard and play even harder! Even Mauresmo is hoping Elena wins (purely for selfish reasons of course! ;))

Nov 8th, 2003, 10:10 PM
Good luck against Chanda! :)

Fight hard and play even harder! Even Mauresmo is hoping Elena wins (purely for selfish reasons of course! ;))
and don't forget Momo's fans ;)

Nov 9th, 2003, 01:33 AM
LOL, well Elena helped Momo out, as long as Momo helps her out at Fed Cup eh? ;)

Great effor from Elena against Chanda, a positive note to leave LA and head to the Fed Cup.

Good luck Elena! :D

Nov 9th, 2003, 08:30 PM
I hate to see Momo in the semis, but Elena had to beat Chanda. GREAT effort she made yesterday.

Myskina would have one ticket if she was in this group.
