My Analysis

As expected our top 2 players have reasonable points to defend, not too concerned even if they only defend half they will be left in a good position in the ranks, their top 100 rank is secured for a while!

54----656---Nicole Pratt--------218
36----835---Alicia Molik---------196.75

In trouble, has lost all motivation if you ask me, playing only a handful of tournaments since July, perhaps she is sick of travelling. Can see her rank slipping below Stosur and Wheeler after the Aust Open!

115---293---Evie Dominikovic---190.75

Has a reasonable amount of points to defend but she has the talent and should defend most of these!

135---235---Samantha Stosur---145

Like Evie, Rachel has played hardly any tournaments since Wimbledon. If she doesnt do well in these challengers she will retire for sure!

202---136---Rachel McQuillan----90.50

Speaking of retiring, has Amanda quit for good, she's not committed for Mackay.

299----66---Amanda Grahame----66

Lauren has quite a chunk of points to defend. I suspect she will pick up a lot of points in the challengers but drop her Aust Open points, she should about break even.

252----89---Lauren Breadmore---38.50

If Christina can't get her rank up then she has a major problem, has an ideal situation of defending hardly any points. Bring on the top 130! :D

165---182---Christina Wheeler---32.50

Casey has a fair chunk of her total points to defend, has enormous talent, should do it easy!

296----67---Casey Dellacqua----31.50

These challengers will make or break Cindy. If disastrous expect her to quit as her rank is only surviving from her results last year which were mediocre! I think Cindy can push her rank up, she will be fresh and hungry after such a long break. :)

427----33---Cindy Watson-------28.50

Anyones guess, she could suddenly regain her form, but she has been slumping all year
!
399----38---Bryanne Stewart----16.50

Beti wont defend these, sorry to say, out of the top 500 Bets!

465----28---Beti Sekulowski------15.50

Mireille should have no trouble defending these, she is one of the few Aussies ranked below 200 that has won matches in $25K+ overseas. Should be back inside the top 300 hopefully after November.

339----52---Mireille Dittmann-----14.50

Boy Tiffany could be in trouble, she has really done very little this year, will be interesting to see if she gets as many wildcards this time round, Probably will as there is no one else worthy of one!

575----17---Tiffany Welford------14

Hopefully Trudi can defend these and pick up more. She really needs to build her singles rank up again for next year, top 350 after these 6 challengers!

435----33---Trudi Musgrave------14

Kristen has the ability, not a lot of points could make some headway with a good draw, here's hoping for a form reversal.

485----26---Kristen Van Elden----10.50

Will be interesting to see if this girl has improved much, she should be able to defend these points though without to much struggle

758-----8---Olivia Lucaszewicz----8

Wildcards should see them defend most of these points alone, throw in a win or two and most of these players should be able to move up the ranks!

505----23---Lauren Cheung-------8
463----28---Gabrielle Baker--------5.50
544----19---Deanna Roberts-------5.50
673----11---Adriana Szili-----------5.25
644----13---Jaslyn Hewitt---------4.50

Their rankings can only go up!!!

301----65---Lisa McShea----------4.50
745-----9---Sophie Ferguson-------3
683----11---Cassandra Barr--------2.75
310----61---Monique Adamzcak----2.25
531----20---Nicole Sewell----------2
907-----4---Sarah Stone-----------0.75
612----14---Dubravka Cupac-------0.25
580----17---Nicole Kriz-------------0
1098---1----Rebecca Turner--------0

That was awesome and so true

your analogy of every player after the points was so perfect !!

lets hope that what u said about most people gaining ranking points is true - which is almost will be . . and as u have also stated be good to see who gets the wildcards

Lets also hope that Bryanne, Cindy, Nicole, Kristen can all come back after injury and climb up the raknings

GO AUSSIE GO!!!

Thanks Ausboy :)

I hoping that Wheeler plays in Australia 25K's this year (unlike last year) - in which there's a stack of points for her to pick up. Her withdrawal from Mackay (she's playing in the US this week) is a worry!

Nice work :)

But you forgot Christina H...:) She pretty much has all her points coming off. Expect her to move up around January (if she gets wildcards that is), or the Vic satellites next March.

I don't understand why Wheeler won't play the Aussie challengers...if she did she would be guaranteed a top 130 ranking. Kudos to her though for sticking with tougher competition overseas, rather than going for a hollow ranking, but still...points are points! Get em anyway you can.

Another player (with the ability) in a GREAT position is Monique Adamczak. I'm hoping she can have a good run because if she does her ranking will fly up.

I agree Wheeler is crazy not to play the Oz circuit. If she could get her ranking up to the 130s she could probably have guaranteed herself a wildcard for the AO. All we can hope is that her gamble pays off and she manages to do well in those tournaments in the US.

I applauded Christina's decision. She is thinking ahead. She wants more experience playing outside Australia and she wants tougher matches in preparation for the Australian Circuit next year. She's playing bigger tournaments so she is giving herself a bigger chance to gain points. She doesnt want to turn into another Rachel or Evie and forget how to win outside Australia!

Some of you may recall Lisa McShea doing the same thing a few years back and it was a great decision for her and was what saw her get up to 139 in the ranks. A lot of the US Challengers, especially $50K get weaker fields towards the end of the season so it is a great chance to get some points. I just wish Christina had played the Asian WTA events instead.

Yes it was a good decision and she basically stayed since wimbledon in the US and played some good tenins

Alot of players could benefit from that

I agree. The points are there so you grab them. What she might gain in experience at US challengers would be off-set by a near top 100ish ranking and increased confidence. Provided ofocurse the following scenario occurs ;) An Aussie w/c by being the 1st placed point scorer and then hopefully a 1st rnd victory and she'd be pushing top 100. I wouldn't say that this is impossible for her to achieve.

Id give her the edge over Evie and Rachel, but a battle between Sam and Chris would be interesting!

yes

considering sam and chris are both 'up and comers' and i reckon both have the best futures

evie needs to gain confidence and remeber how to play/win and racheal is nearing the end of a great career

both sam and chris deserve WD

I have to disagree, Sam and Chris have both been around for a long time. Sam has been around yonks playing in itf events, and Chris has been a prominate junior and playing the odd itf event while playing itf juniors aswell. I also belive that it is premature to assume that these two have the brightest futures of all Aussie players, as both of these have been peaking for the last year or so (I have trained with them both), and thus there tennis is in form. I think we may have seen the best of these two players. There rankings may go inside the top 100 but I think they will stay around there.

Just because a player is considerd up and coming doesn't mean they'll go all the way, jump off the band wagon and make judgements for yourself.

Its common knowledge that Aussie Girls peak at a later age. I think Sam, Casey, and Christina can all make the top 100 sometime soon.

There are also other juniors coming through that in five years will hopefully be bordering on top 100 as well.

Kyiki2000 are you gonna reveal who you are? :p Its nice when players aren't scared to reveal who they are. Obviously Beck Turner posts here as does Jackie Trail, Joanne Moore to name just a couple of the satellite/challenger players.

kyiki...what bandwagon? lol. It seems this section of the board is the only one that really gives a toss about Aussie womens tennis to be honest.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I am making judgments for myself...I've seen them play and I know they can do it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong...so be it :)

Just because I have never trained with them or don't know them personally, doesn't mean my (and our) opinion/s means any less...

I don't think kyiki should reveal her/himself if he/she doesn't want to...

sam has been on senior tour for a year and chris about 2 . . how can that be said as a long time ??

i support aussies no matter what and would rather support an aussie who loses a match to another winner . . . . and what AUSBOY says is quite true , racheal had an awesome year a few years back and look at wayne arthurs and pal bacellano in the means tour. both started on tour about age 28 and both have been in top 150 (wayne top 30)

if u r a player thats good for you but what you see is your opinion and we all have our

no one can predict what will happen for all we know sam, evie ,racheal and christina could win the OZ open . . . . . . .

There's some fans here that I reckon have a good eye of seeing whether a player has talent or not..... TS, AUSBOY, Vicky and many others. Sorry we aren't bandwagon jumpers - more hoping or even begging for some of these girls to make a mark on the tour. We may seem delillusional, but if you read many of the posts I'm sure you can tell we know where our players sit in the overall picture.

As for their talent, well thats very subjective. Many of us know that Sam's forehand is pretty dodgy, her backhand a bit stiff, however some extra work will see some definite improvement. A world class serve (which I think she has) is a weapon that many girls haven't got.
As for Christina - she's gonna have to work bloody hard to get anywhere as her game isn't one to flatten anyone, however with her 'buddy' Nicole hopefully with a strong work ethic things will happen for her.

Do any of you know if Molik is playing Hobart or Sydney?
She is defending champ for Hobart but you would think TA would want the number 1 aussie at Sydney and so ive her a WC and also as she is sponsored by adidas

Sam Stosur has been playing challengers/Sattelites for since 2000/2001, that's a long time and these are as you say senior events, even if she was a junior at the time, that's considerd a long time, as has Chris on and off for the past 2 years or so.
