Who is he?

I agree. especially by the *ahem* older generation. i remember a couple years back he performed with the wallflowers at the vma's, and they were booed off the stage. then all of a sudden he's retro  what horseshit.

Well, this is the thing. I like Springsteen, but this recent supposedly very prestigious poll said he had 2 of the 7 best albums OF ALL TIME. Sorry, but he does not have 1 of the 10 best albums of all time.

GBFH

pffffffffffffffft

typical. critics saying they like springstein is en vogue...in ten years, someone will say U2 had two of the ten most influential albums of all time.

Oh, when I said 2 of the top 7, did I mention it was 1st and 7th?

GBFH
Sep 24th, 2003, 04:55 AM
lmao! that's horseshit.

don't tell me "born in the u.s.a." was no.1? god...i think my parents have that album...and that's all i need to know to stay away from it.

No, actually "Born In The USA" was not one of the two albums. "Born To Run" was rated #1.

ahhhhhhh....haven't ever heard it. i'll make a mental note to say i like it when someone asks in the future. maybe i'll look smarter.

I can think of exactly one song I know from "Born To Run" (guess what its title is), and exactly none from the other album they mentioned. And my musical tastes range from the early 60's (occasionally late 50's) til now.

Was the other one 'The River'? I liked that one.
Born to run was excellent in it's day - a classic rock album. Probably not all time No.1 though.

I expect Justin Timberlake, Britney and Beynoncé(sp) would make up the top ten for you guys then? :p

Aaah, but the powerhouse of the 'E' Street Band, the best sax player ever, Clarence Clemons isn't!

Shitty, but thanks for asking. Do you ever get like pissed off and like almost depressed and resentful for no real reason? I'm there. I'm just stewing over here, and I don't really know why.

Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
Bruce Springsteen
From the album "The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle"

Spread out now Rosie, doctor come cut loose her mama's reins
You know playin' blind man's bluff is a little baby's game
You pick up Little Dynamite, I'll pick up Little Gun
And together we're gonna go out tonight and make that highway run
You don't have to call me lieutenant, Rosie, and I don't want to be your son
The only lover I'm ever gonna need's your soft, sweet, little girl's tongue
And Rosie, you're the one

Dynamite's in the belfry, baby, playin' with the bats
Little Gun's downtown in front of Woolworth's tryin' out his attitude on all the cats
Papa's on the corner, waitin' for the bus
Mama, she's home in the window, waitin' up for us
She'll be there in that chair when they wrestle her upstairs, 'cause you know we ain't gonna come
I ain't here on business, baby, I'm only here for fun
And Rosie, you're the one

Rosalita, jump a little higher
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosalita, you're my stone desire

Jack the Rabbit and Weak Knee Willie, don't you know they're gonna be there
Sloppy Sue and Big Bone Billy, they'll be coming up for air
We're gonna play some pool, skip some school
Act real cool, stay out all night, it's gonna feel alright
So Rosie, come out tonight, little baby, come out tonight
Windows are for cheaters, chimneys for the poor
Closets are for hangers, winners use the door
So use it, Rosie, that's what it's there for

Rosalita, jump a little higher
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosalita, you're my stone desire

Now, I know your mama, she don't like me, 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
And I know your daddy, he don't dig me, but he never did understand
Your papa lowered the boom, he locked you in your room-- I'm comin' to lend a hand
I'm comin' to liberate you, confiscate you, I want to be your man
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny
But now you're sad, your mama's mad
And your papa says he knows that I don't have any money
Your papa says he knows that I don't have any money
Oh, your daddy says he knows that I don't have any money
Well, tell him this is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance
'Cause a record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance

And my tires were slashed and I almost crashed, but the Lord had mercy
And my machine, she's a dud, out stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey
Well, hold on tight, stay up all night, 'cause Rosie, I'm comin' on strong
By the time we meet the morning light, I will hold you in my arms
I know a pretty little place in Southern California, down San Diego way
There's a little cafe, where they play guitars all night and day
You can hear them in the back room strummin'
So hold tight, baby, 'cause don't you know Daddy's comin'
Everybody sing

Rosalita, jump a little higher
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Oh Rosie, you're my stone desire

I very much like Bruce Springsteen, I have it from my dad. His newest CD is great.
But he isn't in my Top 10 of favourite CD's.

overrated, underrated, blahblah. i dont really give a fuck either way cos both are based on how others perceive his music and they arent listening to my music for me.

know this, the man plays show after show and never seems to run out of energy. 2.5 hours STRAIGHT with a 5 minute break and thats IT. ive seen him several times and brucey STILL shits on all those whiny young "musicians" out there today. he puts so much energy and heart in his performance. oh, and he hangs upside down on the mic stand. hot :lick:

I have seen the future of rock and roll and its a band called "Handle".

They are only a year old; local act here in LA. Saw them at the Viper Room on Friday. They were at the very bottom of a 5 band bill and were sooo good that I left and partied with them instead of hanging around to see the other bands. They are awesome!!!

As for Springsteen, I've seen him 2 and a 1/2 times (he played in Atlanta on Superbowl Sunday and I watched the Dallas Cowboys at a diner across the street from the Fox Theatre for most of Springsteen's show; this by the way is the only evidence I have that the Boss is a commie scumbag, "Ghost of Tom Joad" on Superbowl Sunday)

He's currently over rated, as he is just as good as he was 15 years ago, but not really bringing anything to the table that he didn't have going on 15 years ago.

He is better live than every other "whiny voiced, tatooed, pierced, skinny faux punk" rock act on the charts.

But he currently just doesn't have much competition.

i think the appeal in bruce's music is that he is a storyteller, moreso than just a regular musician. his recent really touched a lot of people in the nyc area...

I have Born to Run.

I like Springsteen's sound and the vibe you get from his music --- it makes you feel secure and self-assured regardless of your state in life.

Maybe I'm just too young but he totally means nothing to me. But then again maybe it isn't age because I have no problem getting into Zepplin, The Stones, The Doors and Bob Marley.
