apparently, in Albany, NY, they are trying to pass a law making it illegal for people to smoke in their OWN CARS! the reason is to reduce littering and for the welfare of the possible child in the car.

why not just make it illegal like marijuana, this way we can throw anyone in sells rolling papers in jail for 9 months like we did to tommy chong?

the restaurant ban is one thing, but you should be able to do what you want IN YOUR OWN CAR.

opinions?

They are just nuts. Next thing, they will ban CD players in cars because they distract the driver. Then, they will ban drive-through fast foods, because it also promotes littering and distracts drivers.

I never smoke in my car though.

People know I'm very much against smoking, I wish it would be banned in all public places. But in your own house, in your own car, you should do whatever you want as long as it doesn't affect the safety of others (am referring to using cell phone in car). As far as I know, smoking doesn't distract the driver, so I don't care. This is law is taking it too far. If it's damaging to the child (which it is) in a car, it's also damaging at home so then you may as well ban smoking altogether.

i dont smoke cigarettes, i smoke cigars, which are worse but i dont care. i smoke them in my car on rides and in a social environment. dont like standing around outside smoking. this is really pushing it thou and supposedly some smokers are FOR the ban [i dont believe this... just the typical news at work]

and yeah willow, most people smoke roll-ups. but there are still a few that prefer to roll their own tobacco. i just needed something associated with smoking that wasnt an actual cigarette and thats the fist thing that came to mind :) perhaps i shouldve said lighter??

its true there are cigarettes everywhere, but id rather see a cigarette somewhere than someones nasty piece of sticky gum on the bottom of my shoes, wouldnt you?

...I was referring to the part where you said they put someone in prison for selling rolling papers... ...you mean like Rizlas...?

oh tommy chong was put in prison for selling paraphernalia over the internet. Bush and co. just recently closed down all "head shops" in america in a pathetic attempt to reduce the number of weed smokers

Oh yes, I know. ;)

Define "public".

Tine and me ( two of non-smokers , BTW ) finally agree on something
regarding smoking.. LOL.

You mean, that if I am driving on a highway with my left hand on steering wheel, and my right hand doing something ( which is often the case ) to a girlfriend sitting next to me, it is already illegal? Or maybe it does not qualify?

well i dunno about that... but i do know actual intercourse can be either a 2 or 4 point ticket if caught. depends on if you were swerving or speeding or both. i only know this cos ive been caught :tape:

You cant be in complete control of your vechile if you are smoking, it would be like eating or drinking at the wheel.

Do they fine the driver or his ( or her, even if it is much more physically challenging exersice ) partner or both.

i drive with one hand always. eating is different from smoking, you have to worry abnout getting food on yourself, and depending on the food youre eating, it may require two hands.
smoking, otoh, is easy. keep the window open, ash out of it.
i know the cat will be all for this since he was recently hit by some dumb bitch who dropped her cigarette.

cell phones still arent illegal nationwide yet we want to make cigarettes illegal while dirving? cell phones are much more of a danger in my opinion.

Well im not fully aware of your rules on Cell phones. I cant actually drive on the mobile while driving, its actually phycally impossible in my mind. How some people manage going 100MPH on the M6 is beyond me.

i can drive while talking but i prefer not to, especially in traffic cos i know its distracting.

cell phones are illegal in some areas of the country, but very little.

f were so concerned with littering, gum and food outside of restaurants and the home should be illegal.

if were so concerned with safety of children, like tine said, smoking should just be made entirely illegal.

if were so concerned about safety of others, cell phones and alcohol should be made illegal to ensure safe roads.

 its just another attempt to push smokers down.

its too annoying for me, as a cigar smoker, to sit outside a place for 15 minutes and smoke while it takes a cigarette smoker a few minutes. i rather do it on the ride there.

I'd like to see those bastards stop me from smoking in my car

I paid for the fucking thing, if I want to smoke in it I will.... If I want to park it in the middle of the road and burn it down I will. I own legal title to it, not the state!
