View Full Version : Reputation Points!

IMO this reputation point stuff doesn`t make any sense. To avoid that people assume me of just saying that because I got these many red jewels I can honestly tell you it is much different.

Someone asked what would have been if Henin-Hardenne hadn`t beaten Jen in the semis of the US Open. We should speculate. I just wrote that I think Jen would be US Open Champion now. That is my opinion. Another person who speculated, obviously a Clijsters fan, I avoid saying the person`s name  , gave me a bad reputation. That is just one example for stupid using of the reputation points. There are many more.

Do these people really understand the system or are they just bored and choose different other people to give them a bad reputation?

you posted so many stupid stuff in the past,
and you wonder why you donŽt have a better reputation?

Ah, the first one who thinks his opinion is the only one that counts. Some may think that I posted stupid stuff, others may think the same way like I do. Tell me, who decides what is right and what is wrong/stupid? And note that I speak of some examples and not every single reputation point.

If you think that people are giving you more bad reps because of your red dots then why don't you turn your reputation off ?

The funniest part of the reputation process is when someone really slags you off in their comment, but forgets to tick the "I disapprove" box, so you actually end up getting positive points from them

GermanBoy

Thank you for your advice. Didn`t know that it is possible. I don`t want to turn them off. I think reputation points are a good thing but it doesn`t make any sense if people misuse them and give people a bad reputation because they don`t like them.

Different opinions are important but you should distinguish between a person just telling his/her opinion or saying completely wrong and stupid things. That is what I mean. You can`t give a person a bad reputation just because he has another opinion than yours. As long as this person can prove his/her opinion others should accept it. If it is definitely stupid then you can give bad reputation points.

I have over 8 million positive points, but I choose to be humble and modest and I hide the stats. I don't want to show off and make others feel bad. The first 1 million postive points was special, but after that, I just didn't care anymore. It has become a habit... I eventually got used to being showered with love & points... :rain:

No, some donŽt. But youŽll get good laugh out of it when you realize that some members are very serious about their rep.

Nothing wrong with it but I have to say it is bit stupid when members "bad rep" others just because they got "bad rep" and for good reason. Have not given many bad ones but those IŽve given have mainly been returned with interest

Honey its not big deal, its just rep points, it's really not an indicative of how well you are liked. I agree that some people do misuse it but what can you do? Just take it as just for fun and get a laugh from it. Put it this way, getting bad points is better than getting no points. :P At least this means that people are actually reading your posts. Some people write and write but no one ever cares or read it.

most of your bad rep points came from that bullshit you posted about Justine, making accusations based on your opinion and taking them as facts.

After that I guess it will be difficult for people to change their perception of you. Especially when you started on this board posting controversial stuff. I gave you bad rep and my opinion on you remains very low, that might change but I really dislike people who make accusations out of their opinion and then get upset because people "don't see the truth" the way they do.

on the end, why do you care?

I never post "bullshit". That is the first point. You don`t have to like my opinion. I don`t want you to like it. Please allow me to ask you one question: Why did some people of Clijsters`team think Henin-Hardenne was doped? I don`t want to discuss that any more, I just want to show you that I was not the only person who got the impression that Henin-Hardenne`s behaviour was strange. I think you like her and then it is just normal that you defend her.

Look, I`ve always thought this is a place to discuss controversial stuff. We all don`t have the same taste and opinion. We wouldn`t need this board if all people liked the same players. It is just normal life to have ohter tastes and opinions, to have conflicts. I can just say that I am not afraid of speaking against the opinion of perhaps 200.000 people as long as I don`t share it.

The point is that its a little ambiguous, like what "beyond a reasonable doubt" actually means in a criminal trial. Maybe we need to have our own equivilant of the WTA Tour Players Council (elected, perhaps) to discuss such issues calmly.

if you are using the clan Clijsters to support your assumptions, then you have even less credibility, and there isn't a person in the world (the tennis world anyway) whose opinion I respect less than Lei Clijsters's.

I think you like her and then it is just normal that you defend her.

that's part of it, but I don't like baseless accusations, to say a person takes drugs just because that person has improved a lot is just plain sick IMO, I would think the same if the accused was Serena or Kim who I dislike. Lei Clijsters started that and Lei is a pathetic piece of shit, I am sure you don't want to follow his example.

Look, I`ve always thought this is a place to discuss controversial stuff. We all don`t have the same taste and opinion. We wouldn`t need this board if all people liked the same players. It is just normal life to have ohter tastes and opinions, to have conflicts. I can just say that I am not afraid of speaking against the opinion of perhaps 200.000 people as long as I don`t share it.

of course, but accusing someone of that just because she is playing too well is, as I said before, sick. Lei said that out of frustration because his daughter is losing her privileged spot in the Belgian media. It's the same asshole that said the WTA Champ is more important than a GS.

FYI, I saw Justine in person this year, and I had seen her last year in Montreal and the year before in Toronto, and she doesn't look bigger, just more toned.

her sin was to beat Kim 4 times. Lei can't deal with it, he can't accept that someone can work hard and obtain results and tries to play his dirty game to discredit Justine, but he isn't very smart and it backfired on him and Kim.

Of course you are entitled to your own opinions, but then I am entitled to mine and I can refute yours, and give you bad rep if I don't like what you say, and I believe many people think the same way.

if you are using the clan Clijsters to support your assumptions, then you have even less credibility, and there isn't a person in the world (the tennis world anyway) whose opinion I respect less than Lei Clijsters's.

I don`t understand why you assume me of using the Clijsters family as an excuse. I don`t do that. I just said that there are other people who were surprised about the way Henin-Hardenne behaved on the court. The Clijsters family was just an example. I get the impression you start interpreting my words and then you get the result you like but that is not the real message I wanted to express. It is your stuff you find reading trough the lines but it is not there. I don`t care what Leo Clijsters said, he or his family was jus an example without refering to his spoken words.

FYI, I saw Justine in person this year, and I had seen her last year in Montreal and the year before in Toronto, and she doesn't look bigger, just more toned.

I never said Henin-Hardenne took drugs. I would never say that. The only thing I meant was that she could hardy stand on her feet but the next moment she sprinted all over the court. I don`t think that is brave or whatever, doesn`t matter who the player is.

Rothes, you may be right but I can`t stand the way some people behave. Toontje just said something and then Queen Lissy called her/him  (I`m sorry, I don`t know!) an idiot. Some people just can`t argue they use offending vocabulary to express what they think. IMO that is pathetic! (seems to be a beloved and often used word on this board ;) ). I don`t really care about this reputation stuff. I just think that the misuse of the reputation system gives other people a wrong impression of a person. Jennifer`s wife e. g., didn`t understand why I got these many bad reputation points. I think she is a nice person and I hope she just thinks the same but she perhaps got the impression at first that I am a wrong and unfriendly person, you know? My problem with rep points is I don't really like the way people use them. People will give them to you just for disagreeing with you and there is a certain group that I won't name, with sort of a clan mentality. Personally, I only give bad rep for behavior and, honestly, I'm not all that diligent about it. I've only given a small handful, though I'm trying to be better about giving positive rep when people deserve them.

Also, I understand the reason for not allowing multiple rep points in the same day, but some people make asses of themselves several times a day and other people write great posts multiple times in a day. Though, I think it should be per 24 hour period. I tried to give someone positive rep 3 days after I gave it to her and the board wouldn't let me. I'm sure its because I didn't give many rep points in between, but I don't think that should be a factor.

Btw, does anyone know if the board lets people rep the same post twice. I repped a message and forgot if I already did. If the board does allow such a thing, I think it would be good to not allow it.
