LONDON (Reuters) - England captain David Beckham has stormed straight to the top of the bestseller list with an autobiography that has already raised a few eyebrows in the game.

"David Beckham: My Side" topped the chart in its debut week after being released last Friday, according to figures released on Wednesday by chart compiler Nielsen BookScan.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who left Manchester United for Real Madrid in the close season, has used his memoirs to reopen a well-documented feud with United manager Alex Ferguson.

Beckham says in the book he "went for the gaffer" after Ferguson kicked a boot at him in the dressing room following an FA Cup defeat last February.

He also describes how he seriously considered retiring from soccer last year following the spat with Ferguson and kidnap threats against his pop star wife Victoria.

At number two in the chart was Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones", the tale of a recently murdered girl adjusting to life in heaven.

In third place was Tom Clancy's "Red Rabbit"; in fourth was Patricia Cornwell's "Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed", and in fifth was Yann Martel's "Life of Pi".
