Well done Alicia.

Nicole is first up today, let's hope she repeats the same as she did last time against Sanchez Lorenzo.

Trudi, keeping my fingers crossed for a good doubles result for you this week. This girl has certainly earnt a few extra bucks in doubles the past few tourneys. Good to see her getting some extra dough in the bank.

Trudi, keeping my fingers crossed for a good doubles result for you this week. This girl has certainly earnt a few extra bucks in doubles the past few tourneys. Good to see her getting some extra dough in the bank.

She also beat a top 150 player this week in qualifying, picking up 6 ranking points in Singles and about $1000! Mind you it was good timing as she has 6 points coming off this week, so lucky for her she defended them and her rank shouldnt drop below the current 403 that it is

Trudi should play more singles events she's not that bad of a singles player

Sep 16th, 2003, 05:32 AM
Nicole lost today to Sanchez Lorenzo 4-6 3-6 :( :( :(

Bah! :( She loses 76 points from Tokyo QF last year, so her rank will drop to around 53-55. On the bright side there is nothing else coming off til the Aussie Open...

Trudi is obviously a doubles specialist now, but she can hold her own in singles when she wants to. She is much better than 400. Given a full schedule you can rely on her to be ranked somewhere between 200-270, and that's not too shabby.

Bad Luck to Nicole - she was playing so good at US and now she has forgotten how to win ????

Alicia also lost in doubles .

So Not a good Day for the aussies

On Trudi . .

i saw her play qualifying in sydney earlier this year and she was pretty good, she was playing lisa raymond who was ranked like 48 in world and she took the 2nd set off her . . she has a good serve on her and yes if she played more singles she could get her ranking higher

Nicole :crying2:

Why Why

Bad luck Nicole. Hope she does well in doubles.

Re Trudi, maybe it's a financial thing. As we all know playing on the tour is expensive, so if a player is chasing singles wins, a player ranked as low as 400 is only ever going to make qualifying in much lower ranked tournaments. However, with a healthy doubles ranking, being able to enter higher tier tournaments are possible, and a greater financial reward achieved. As at 15 September Trudi has earnt $40k with 36k coming from doubles. Being high enough ranked to make it into doubles at GS is so important to these lower ranked players.

Alicia won her 2nd round match 6-4 6-3 :bounce:

i saw some of that match against lisa too bronco...i agree she's quite good and her backhand was a strong shot, she also moved well, and i think she shouldnt be ranked below 200 if she played more often...i think lisa thrashed her in the 3rd set tho ;)

Sep 17th, 2003, 05:16 PM
Good job Alicia. Just checked out the rankings and see she should hopefully move up a couple of positions. She had 45.75 points to defend for this week and has probably earnt just over 50. However the two above her have points off. That number 32 ranking is just around the corner.

Well done Nicole, she and Emilie won their doubles match.

Now all we need is for Trudi to come thru in doubles.

Sep 18th, 2003, 12:22 AM
yes thats a good win 4 nicole and emile after they both lost there singles matches

Yes in the 3rd set i think lisa won 6-1 , i was working there as a tech offical and got to see most of the aussies girls play . . .alhtough that wasnt a good sight with jaslyn getting hammered, i think lauren chang won a set but besdies that it was pretty slim . . .

Sep 18th, 2003, 12:42 AM
Whats a tech official?

Sep 18th, 2003, 01:12 AM
lol i saw two games of jaslyn hewitt and she was hitting the ball quite bad, short, nothing on her shots...

lauren cheung played ok she had a close first set i think but then got drilled in the 2nd..laurens got a nice serve and is consistenct but she could use more power off the ground

Sep 18th, 2003, 02:21 AM
i think Alicia already has 100 points but im not sure for this tournament :p

Sep 18th, 2003, 04:13 AM
Tennis Corner has it as 61 and that sounds about right.

Sep 18th, 2003, 06:25 AM
yeah something like that

a tech offical is

* outside courts - does stats like forehand, serves etc

*centre - spped gun and scoreboard and stats

Working there again this year will be so cool !!
