It's been made clear more than once that Lindsay is having sugery and is not playing again until 2004, so whoever is in 9th place will qualifly. Venus and Serena, if healthy, said they will play (note that Serena said she isn't coming back until late October).

Why the 9th place??????? I thought that the best 16 players qualify for LA.

Why the 9th place??????? I thought that the best 16 players qualify for LA.

After the disastorous Championships last year, the WTA decided to shape the women's Year-End Championships like the men's; invite the top eight players instead of the top 16 and have a round robin format instead of single eliminatioon.

Lindsay entered Filderstadt and therefore the 9th spot theory is put into question.

Venus is in danger of not qualifying if Myskina and Dementiewa continue like this.

Lindsay is playing in Filderstedt and doing pretty good, so i think if she qualifys she will play. Dementieva and Myskina can take Venus' spot and be numbers 7+8. Although I'm not sure if Venus would play anyway. Serena has already qualified but I'm not sure if she willl play either. So basically Chanda needs to stay in the ten spot or whoever is there will likely qualify because Serena or Lindsay or anyone up there for that matter may pull out.

Well, it looks like whoever does better in Philadelphia between Ai and Chanda will be going to Philadelphia...Ai's draw has qualifiers in it so she wont get as many bonus points. Rubin has a better chance of getting to the semi's too, so when all is said and done I think we will see Chanda in L.A.

this is the way i will calculate it........
keep the points for the W/RU/SF

the rest of the QF will be given those who didnt make round robin,
plus the bonus points they got......

WTA will probably simply the system now that they havent come
out with a ranking system for the championship at this time of the yr,
so that is what i speculate:)

Ai needs to win Friday to pass Venus .If Venus dosnt play she has already qualified .

Chanda needs to beat Nadia to pass Venus and qualify

Nadia needs another 246 to beat Chanda and Cannot pass Venus.

Nadia needs to Win Phili AND hope that Ai fails to reach semis
OR Venus to pull out

I'm hoping that Venus can have the option to play!
Go Meghann and Nadia! :bounce:

The fact that Venus is still in shows either how good she was in a shortened season or how pathetic the rest of the field is.

The fact that Venus is still in shows either how good she was in a shortened season or how pathetic the rest of the field is.

It depends how you look at it. Take Justine's points of the US-Open and Roland Garros and add the points of a smaller tournament and you get the same amount of points with only three tournaments.

Venus just qualified for the YEC because Nadia beat Chanda 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

Right now she is in 7th place depending on how Ai does. If Ai wins, Venus is in the last spot; if Ai loses, Venus is in the 7th spot.

Someone correct me if I am wrong on where Venus will be.

Paneru
Oct 31st, 2003, 07:55 PM
If Ai wins Venus will be #8

However, should Ai lose
Venus will be #7 and #8 will be between
Ai and Nadia. If Nadia beats Ai and wins the tournament she will qualify for the last spot. If she doesn't win Ai will get the last spot. So, should Ai lose all hope will not be lost.

That's how thing will go If I'm understanding correctly!

She has to beat Myskina in the semis today and win the final tomorrow. Any other result will make Chanda the artlernate or the last qualifier (if Venus doesn't play).
