yes, i totally agree - she's got an outstanding voice as the clip of that performance really shows, but unfortunately she really doesn't get as much credit as she deserves for most of the music credibility she has :(

The late, great Laura Nyro was probably most accomplished as a songwriter, having penned everything from Eli's Coming to Stoned Soul Picnic. Joni was incomparable as both singer and songwriter. :worship: Carole started as a writer (often teamed with hubby Gerry Goffin) doing stuff like the late little Eva's Locomotion. She then had her breakout as a singer with her "signature album" Tapestry. Melanie still has lit candles held up by audiences for her "signature song". Lady Soul certainly got her Re-re-re-re-spect. I think Bobbie's still "dropping flowers in-to the muddy waters off the Tallahatchie Bridge". ;)

jolly roger, it's good to see someone appreciate music from my era. :) at times, i really feel my age on this board. :o anyway, i'm not surprised you knew my favoirte singers because your username is a throwback, for me, to growing up in arizona and southern california and going to eat at a restaurant called jolly roger in costa mesa, california.

(I saw your Laura Nyro acknowlegement in the other thread)
Stoney End

written by Laura Nyro
recorded by Barbra Streisand

I was born from love
And my poor mother worked the mines
I was raised on the good book Jesus
Till I read between the lines
Now I don't believe I want to see the mornin'
Going down to stoney end
I never wanted to go down to stoney end
Mama let me start all over
Cradle me
Mama cradle me again

I can still remember him
With lovelight in his eyes
But the light flickered out and parted
As the sun began to rise
Now I don't believe I want to see the mornin'
Going down to stoney end
I never wanted to go down to stoney end
Mama let me start all over
Cradle me
Mama cradle me again

Never mind the forecast
'Cause the sky has lost control
'Cause the fury and the broken thunder's
Come to match my ragin' soul
Now I don't believe I want to see the mornin'
Going down to stoney end
I never wanted to go down to stoney end
Mama let me start all over
Cradle me
Mama cradle me again
