49. Portland, Ore.
50. San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, Calif.

How They Were Chosen
Here's the key criteria for choosing the cities:
Average recorded fall pollen levels over the past seven years.
Length of the peak fall season for the most offensive pollen types.
Number of antihistamine prescriptions written in the last year for allergy symptoms.
Number of board-certified allergists per capita.

Runny nose, sneezing, congestion, watery eyes and itchy throat are caused by colds -- but they're also classic seasonal allergy symptoms, says Derek Johnson, MD, an allergist at Temple University Medical Center, in a news release.

"In some cities, the pollination of different plants, changing weather, and other environmental factors can cause a greater impact for allergy sufferers during the fall than the spring," Johnson explains.

The Allergy Action Plan, an educational campaign on the AAFA's website, gives these and more helpful hints on preventing allergy symptoms:

Spend more time inside when pollen and mold counts are high.
Keep windows closed and use an air filter that is cleaned regularly.
Wash bedding often.

The educational campaign was made possible by an unrestricted grant from Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, the makers of the allergy medication Alavert.

I miss DFW. Been there 2 times - can't speak about the allergies, but I love the city.

^ Speaking of... what is that place (town or whatever) where there are statues of horses running thru the pond or whatever? My aunt lives in Denton and it's somewhere (sorta) near there. That's nice. Oh, and brunch at Lowe's Anatole was fab. ;)

ah, Denton. My uni's there.

Afraid I've never seen/heard of the horse statue. I'll have to ask the old folks if they know what it is.

As for your first post, yes, DFW is a marvelous place. Hated it when I first moved here...but after six years, I don't think I'd live anywhere else.

My aunt teaches nursing at some college there. Is there a Lewis Uni? She used to be at an all women's college. Anyway, I just love Dallas as well. My other aunt used to live right down by the big huge Ferris Wheel thinghie by the Cotton Bowl - kinda in the hood, sorta. I mean it wasn't violent, just kind of a drab neighborhood.

But overall, I love Dallas.

The all-woman's college is called TWU (Texas Women's University). It's a couple miles south from my uni. I've heard they have an excellent drama group...but I haven't seen it myself.

lmao! the Cotton Bowl is right off of MLK Boulevard...and you know what Chris Rock says about any street named after Martin Luther King..."there's some violence goin' down!" they also have a lot of trains out there, I went to see them with my father. And, of course, it's the site of the annual Texas/Oklahoma football game. And Big Tex, lmao

DFW is marvelous! You ever been to San Antonio? It's GORGEOUS!!!!

Sorry took me so long to respond - god damn people making me busy at work. It's been a nuts-o day.

Anyway.... Yes I do remember MLK Blvd now that you say it. I have not been to San Antonio, my mom has and loved it. Something about the walkway and the creek or stream or whatever. lol, I didn't listen all the way.

I've been to DFW twice, Houston once, Harlingen and South Padre once. Harlingen is, um, not very nice. But SPI is amazing. Loved it!!

how dare they make you work

ah, you mean Riverwalk? I've only been to SA once, but didn't make it to Riverwalk, unfortunately. But I went to Market Square, and saw the Tower of the Americas (the world's largest phallic symbol). It's really pretty there...lots of cute buildings and houses. My sister says she's gonna live there someday...we'll see if that happens, lmao.

ah, south padre. it seems everyone at my uni but me has been there. my cousin used to work there, said it was really nice.

AjdeNate!

Riverwalk, that must be it.
Phallic symbols.... hmmm ;)

Yes, SPI is very nice - you should visit it. The only thing I didn't like was crossing Queen Isabella Causeway. It's like a 5 mile long bridge that twists and turns and is very scary. But after you get out to the Island, it's very very pretty.

HAH! I don't like football...I watch college sometimes since so many people in my family are obsessed. We have a family friend who's a judge in Oklahoma, and an OU alumni, who's gone to every OU football/basketball game (home AND away) for twenty years.

the rock  you hear about them losing one of their dates? and the southern 500 moving to November? that should be a crime. fontana is SO boring. and the bitches at TMS are still pushing for a second date. they just need to realize that TMS is a lousy track, and the drives don't want to come back here. and it almost always rains on race weekend.

TMS is gunnin for 2 now? Pffftt, no. I don't like it at all - not the design anyway. I didn't know the Southern was moving to Nov. That's way too late. The season is already like about 2 months too long. ;)

oh yeah, TMS has squawked about getting a second date forever. they're suing NASCAR as we speak about being passed over for a second race. it's so dumb. if I were NASCAR I'd wait until my contract with TMS was up and take the race away...give it to Chicago or Phoenix. I like Phoenix, too.

yeah, they moved Darlington to November, and gave the Labor Day race to Fontana. it's a smart business move since Darlington has only sold out once in like five years. but it's still sad...it was NASCAR's oldest track/race.

you ever been to a NASCAR race? I'd love to go to Bristol someday. the night race, of course ;) they need more night racing!!!!!

not normal at ALL. weve had such a rainy fucking summer, COLD winter, no spring... definitely not regular NJ weather. we usually have four mild seasons.

this winter is supposed to be the harshest winter EVER according to the farmers almanac... and i think theyre like 80% accurate.

we never get hit up by hurricanes real hard. actually, when you look at the places most hit by hurricanes, nj rarely gets anything. hope this works
http://i.cnn.net/cnn/SPECIALS/2003/hurricanes/images/hit.north.gif

but our shore still gets VICIOUS. theres definitely flooding by my house all the time. and the waves get huge. my favorite :)

I won't say 1 specifically, but we have our share of "frequent flyers"... who call all the time. Well this one in particular always ends her phone call with "Jesus loves You". She usually rambles about "sinful cigarettes" and such. Quotes bible verses. Well, ok, one time in particular she was doing that to me and I was like, ya know what crazy, I'm done. So I said to her "Are you quite finished, Satan has approved my cigarette break." ;) Another time she was gettin' all hot and bothered and preachy then all of the sudden said "Well, I have to go, I need to poop. I'm gonna poop, it's already coming out. I have to poop, bye". And hung up.

She's a really piece of work thatone!

not normal at ALL. weve had such a rainy fucking summer, COLD winter, no spring... definitely not regular NJ weather. we usually have four mild seasons.

this winter is supposed to be the harshest winter EVER according to the farmers almanac... and i think theyre like 80% accurate.

we never get hit up by hurricanes real hard. actually, when you look at the places most hit by hurricanes, nj rarely gets anything. hope this works

but our shore still gets VICIOUS. theres definitely flooding by my house all the time. and the waves get huge. my favorite :)

that's what i thought. I went to NJ last year, and it was kinda like Dallas, only colder ;) no snow, nothing. and this year it's siberia! hope it dries up, babe!!

She's a really piece of work thatone!

oh my god!!
that could SO be an hbo series...call is "911 Emergency" or something...delves into the lives and jobs of 911 dispatchers. I'd watch it ;)
