Round 14: Italy: Qualification session 1

17 Zsolt Baumgartner Jordan 01:24.872 +00:04.216 3

British fans: Ralph Firman is not competing in Italy as he has an inner ear infection resulting from his crash in practice for the Hungarian GP.
Zolst Baumgartner is standing in again.

Recent news:
- Turkey is likely to host a Grand Prix in 2005. I hope their motor sport fans are nicer than their footie fans!
- China and Bahrain are to hold Grands Prix next year.
- 2004 British GP is to be held on July 4th, so it will probably coincide with the Wimbledon men's final and the final of Euro 2004 in Portugal! I bet my video breaks down.

Ralf Schumacher is OUT of Monza after he complained of headaches last night

he's gonna be replaced by Williams test driver

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/3105552.stm

Ralf Schumacher will not race in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix and will be replaced by test driver Marc Gene.

Schumacher's Williams-BMW team confirmed the decision ahead of Saturday's qualifying session at Monza.

Williams chief operations engineer Sam Michael said: Ralf did not feel well last night so we took the decision to stand him down for this race.

"We made the decision this morning to give Marc as much time in the car as possible before qualifying. He has not raced in F1 since 2000 but he has done loads of miles in testing.

"I think in the race he will be fine because it is long runs but it is qualifying he will have to get used to.

"Clearly that's it for Ralf for the drivers' championship. Now we have to try and get the best position for Marc to help us in the constructors' championship."

Passed fit

Schumacher had a bad crash during testing at Monza last week and suffered severe concussion.

But he was passed fit to race this weekend and took part in Friday's first qualifying.

However, the German failed to post a time after missing part of the chicane.

Schumacher - who is expected to be fit for the US Grand Prix on 28 September - went into Monza 14 points behind his pace-setting older brother Michael in the drivers' standings.

He has been eclipsed in recent races by team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya, who is second behind Ferrari's reigning world champion.

Williams lead the constructors' championship by eight points from Ferrari.

Spaniard Gene last raced for Minardi in the 2000 Malaysia Grand Prix. He scored one point in 33 races for that team.

Wish Monty could have taken that pole, but still, at least he's in good shape for tomorrow. I didn't see the qualifying session so I have no idea as to whether he made a mistake or Michael was just amazing (one reason I hate working a full day Saturday!)!

I know ;)

My commentator says that Sauber supports everything Ferrari says in meetings. It seems its part of the contract. Pathetic!

I have to admit Ferrari is a good team, but I don't think they're fair in what they do. There are definitely some wins Schumi CANNOT be proud of ;)
