So if you marry a catholic you're excluded?

In Belgium you were excluded if you married a Dutch royal but that law has been abolished recently.

BTW it's strange that catholics are excluded from the throne sine Anglicanism is much more like catholicism than protestantism.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit odd, but hey, I don't make the rules (I wonder who did make them).

Question:

If Prince Charles dies before he obtains the throne, the next heir would be his brother, right?? Not his kids??

The next in line is William, not Andrew. As long as William is old enough to be king, I don't see why the throne would go to Andrew. Andrew is only 4th in line, as you can see.

The children of the heir to the trone always come before the younger siblings of the heir.

Yeah! This I'd like to see!
A few decades and a couple of untimely accidents from now, we could be under the reign of Queen Zara! (It even sounds all futuristic and that!)

Having Prince Charles as the King would be slightly problematic for the Royal Mint

they'd have to include a tiny handle on the face of the coins ;) :rolls:

BTW it's strange that catholics are excluded from the throne sine Anglicanism is much more like catholicism than protestantism.
It all goes back to Henry VIII, (he of the six wives) who fell out with the Pope of the day over the Catholic Church's reluctance to grant divorces - apparently, chopping the head off the missus was OK but divorce was a big NONO!!
So Henry thought, "well fuck this for a lark, I'll burn down all your monestaries, kill yer priests, start me own bloody church and put miself in charge!!"
And that, to cut a long story short is what he did. The British monarch remains, to this day, The Head of the Church of England. So it would hardly be appropriate if s/he were a catholic would it?

So, even if Charles dies before receiving the throne, meaning, he never becomes King, Williams will still become King, or does it go to Charles' brother??

Yes, that's right. William is next in line if Charles dies, even if he doesn't become king.

Actually Charles can call himself anything he likes when (and if) he becomes King. He has four names of his own to choose from, for starters: Charles Phillip Arthur George. His grandfather, George VI, chose to be George rather than his given name of Albert.

Hi propi, :wavey:

According to English constitutional law, any individual claiming the Crown cannot be Roman Catholic or married to a Roman Catholic.

This list probably includes Catholics in case there's a conversion or change in religion.
