2003 FWTT Survivor Siquijor

The FINAL Match

http://utenti.lycos.it/magiclindsay/Thumbs/varie_14_small.JPG

Several Months ago, 18 FWTT Survivors started on a journey to find out who can best outwit, outlast and outplay each other. This years' edition brought about tremendous twists and turns as the survivors tried to fight their way to the final two. One by one, the survivors fell and their fire extinguished as they were voted out and lost to their respected challengers.

We now come to the point alot had been waiting for - the final match. The match that would determine the ultimate survivor in Siquijor. Would it be Monica Gambill or Tiffani Eggert?

The players are flown to the Siquijor Tennis Center for the final battle. The Survivor Jury sits in the front row with their loved ones.

Thanks to this exhibition and the profits it has earned via TV Viewership and Advertising, over $15 Million was raised for the distribution of rape kits for women all over asia and the improvisation of rape investigation in the region. These kits would help tremendously in the resolution of rape cases.

The players are now fighting for $5 Million US dollars (which is $4 Million more than the runner-up gets), a car of their choice from Chrysler and the title of Sole Survivor.

Get Ready.

Tiffani Eggert

I am really excited about this match. I really want to win Survivor, the game is important to me and I think that I played hard. I know that I have done almost everything right to win this game. If I lose, I know that it will only be because the judges were bitter and not because Monica was better than me. Monica got lucky to be in this final, and if she wins it all will again be luck. For everyone that did vote for me, if anyone, I want to thank you for appreciating how hard I played, and realize that nothing was personal in this game.

Sorry for the delayed response, it is actually a combination of both factors. i haven't been home regularly or online for the past 3 weeks or so, but regardless, i am also sticking with my decision of discontinuing my participation in the game as i have no interest in being a part of it at this point in time. i respect your choice, and hope you will respect mine aswell.

As far as i am concerned, both players deserve to be where they are if they are there, and equally deserving, so i wish all the best to the two remaining contestants.

Set 1 Summary and Votes

It was a close first set. Both players were desperately trying to hold on to their service games. Moni Gambill was looking to control the points from the baseline but Tiff Eggert had her lefty serve working for her. She was constantly moving forward, frustrating the british player into errors. For her part, Monica saved three set points on her serve and one more on Eggert's serve with a series of well-angled groundstrokes. The set ended when Monica's backhand putaway hit the tape and pushed the ball back to her side.

Set 2 Summary and Votes

Monica started horribly in the second, spraying errors all over. At one point, she mishit a sitter forehand onto the stands and krinkled her forehead in disgust. For her part, Tiffani played solid, percentage tennis, opting for heavy spins with her serves and looping groudies deep inside the court. But then at 4-0, the old Monica turned something on in herself and started cracking beautiful and line-hugging shots. Monica saved three set points in the process and plowed through the next few games to win it 7-5. The set ended on her second set point with a grunting service winner.

Set 3 Summary and Votes

Both players focused in holding serve in the third. First serve percentage went up from the 40s in the previous set, to high 60s. Monica was first to draw blood, breaking the belgian in the seventh game. But, as they say, it is only a true break when you hold serve. Monica didn't and Tiff held, changing the advantage. Monica saved 5 set points on her serve but faltered in the last one, when Tiff made a clean chip and charge play, ending with a drop volley.

Monica came out firing in the fourth. Dictating points once again from the baseline, she seized the momentum and broke any kind of rhythm from the belgian for five straight games. At one point, as proof that she was on definite cruise control, she actually made a spectacular volley save. The belgian broke the spell at 5-0 by breaking the brit's serve and holding but Monica slammed the door back, forcing a final set.

When the game originally started, I was contacted by Jane Wong about being in an alliance with her. I would've trusted my life with her. Jane is a great girl, and there is no doubt she cared more about us than herself, and I'd like to thank her for that. When Jane lost her survival match, Tiff took over power, I felt unfairly. I thought it was as if she bullied her way to the top. Her motives were selfish and all she cared about was herself. She was a sneaky brat, and I shouldn't have listened to her. But that wasn't what hurt me, what hurt me was the fact that after I was voted off she cut off all relations with me, supposively one of her better friends. I PMed her and offered to help her with anything, but she didn't care. I had payed my purpose, I was voted off and she wasn't. I don't appreciate that and it made me lose respect for her. That being said here are my votes. Thanks to Lindsay and Meghann for making a great game, and congratulations to not only the finalists, but all players who helped make it fun.

Final Set Summary and Votes

Wow, what a set. Whenever Tiffani tried to pull away, Monica dug in deep to stay close. The brit came back many times in the set, down 1-3 and again down 3-5. She was also behind in the final set tiebreaker and came within a point of clinching victory. All in all, she saved 7 championship points but did not do enough in the end. Tiffani was a bunch full of nerves. She was rattled when in one of her championship points, a down the line backhand was called out by the umpire. But she came up with miracuilous shots in the end and closed the match and Survivor Siquijor out with a backhand cross-court winner that just touched the line.

Well done to our runner-up Monica Gambill.

Tiffani Eggert is our Ultimate Survivor for 2003.

Congratulations :)

Would be Tiffani but as she was in the end getting magical help then I want Monica to win.

Although Tiffani played the game harder, I think it's the balance of relationships and playing the game that makes a real survivor. I beleive the game initially began as a way to get players involved and get to know eachother. Although Monica didn't seem to play as hard as Tiffani, she still managed to make a true balance. I think that's the most important thing.

Last year she finished third, this time she should win. This will be her last Survivor, Monica will not play next year, but I think she will come back and win this one in 2005.

I promised my alliance that if any of them made it to the finals I would vote for them. I keep my promises, so that is why Tiff earned overall worthiness.

Wow!! I really can't believe it. I definitely did not expect to win this game. It was so difficult. I was very lucky and I had a lot of help from all of you that played this game. I'd like to thank all the girls that voted for me. I think you all made very rational decisions. And congrats to Monica for making it a very difficult final.
I may never win a grand slam, but I will always be a Survivor champion!

Well Done Tiff.

I never thought i'd get to the final 2 so being runner-up is amazing.Thanx to everyone who voted for me i really appreciate it.For me this game was a bit of fun and a chance to get to know a few more players form the tour which i did.In the end i think people thought i was here by chance or luck which i'm sorry but i don't see how.I voted the way i wanted,if people wanted me out they should have voted for me till i was out but i kept winning matches.

Thanx Linsay for a great game.I will not play next year but who knows i may be back for 2005.

I must say one more round of applause for the effort that jacs and Lindsay Anne Sarile gave to make this game such a success. I am forever grateful.

Congrats Tiff, and Monica! No hard feelings for either of you I hope;). And isn't it amazing that the game was so close, you would think one player would win in 3 sets, but it was a 5 setter and a nailbitter at that with the 4-3 vote in the final set. See you all next year;)!
