Thanks for the post danker.

Last week was 6-4 6-1 against Patty (also in SF). This week is 6-3 6-3. Quite regular results. But...

Nan Nan has not played a match yet against any player ranked around the #300 spot or better this year :( .

Highest opponent so far as been Patty (#338) while Nan Nan is #276 and going up.

Quite supportive, aren't you KC ;) ?

BTW, Nan Nan will be around the #250 place in a couple of weeks after her good performances in Hull and Tipton (so far...).

I watched all today's matches in Tipton.
The doubles results were

Tessy Van De Ven & Suzanne Van Hartingsveldt (NED*2)
BT Leslie Butkiewicz & Patty Van Acker (BEL*2) 6-3, 0-6, 6-4

This was a highly impressive win when you consider their respective singles rankings (the Belgians being in the mid 300s,
whilst the higher of the two Dutch girls Van De Ven, is about 670)

Zi Yan & Jie Zheng (CHN*2) BT Anna Hawkins & Jane O'Donoghue
3-6, 6-2, 6-1

It took the Chinese girls rather a long time to get into their stride, but once they did, they looked inevitable winners.

Concerning the singles matches, like last week N.N Liu thoroughly outclassed Patty Van Acker. Although straight sets, the other match could have easily gone either way. Sofia Arvidsson shouldn't be disappointed with her performance.

Meanwhile, I'm sure Ekaterina will be ecstatic at getting through to this final, and she has a chance of beating N.N Liu, especially if her serve is as powerful as it was at times today.

Thanks for your post bluepastures :) . Will you be watching the finals too this Sunday?

Glad to learn that Zi and Jie made it to the final.

Regarding Nan Nan, how is she playing now?

Is she going to the net from time to time or hitting mostly from the baseline?

How is her serve going?

No, I wasn't at the finals today. It's a long way from Chelmsford by train especially on Sunday, when they put every conceivable bit of engineering work on.
Fortunately next week's tournament is at Redbridge, much closer!!! Their qualifying draw should be out later today. Incidentally for any people attending, go to Fairlop tube station on the Central line (about 50 metres walk) NOT Redbridge.
Van De Ven and Van Hartingsveldt, I'll just look at the latest rankings:
Van De Ven - 675 (Dutch no. 15)
Van Hartingsveldt - 879 (Dutch no. 19)

That must be great to see this indoor tourney Bluepastures.

Nan Nan should be in the qualifying draw. I am afraid the other Chinese players won't make it in singles (though Tian Tian was very close in the alternates).

BTW, did you happen to get the Tipton finals results  ?

Van De Ven and Van Hartingsveldt, I'll just look at the latest rankings:
Van De Ven - 675 (Dutch no. 15)
Van Hartingsveldt - 879 (Dutch no. 19)

bluepastures,

players have a singles ranking and a doubles ranking!! VD Ven & V Hartingsveldt are both ranked 454th in DOUBLES.
They have both played 8 tournaments, so I guess they're full-time partners (in tennis..).

Yes I know they have doubles rankings too, but I take little notice of them since most players (even really highly ranked doubles players such as Ai Sugiyama) change doubles partners so often.

E.g the Chinese girls, this week it was Zheng and Yan (doubles ranking 558) winning, last week it was Zheng and Sun (doubles ranking 505). So, IMHO a better guide to a partnership are the players singles rankings (unless you're talking about players who only play doubles like Rennae Stubbs, Lori McNeil or Nicole Arendt)
