Yesterday I have been watching the Babsi Schett - Amanda Coetzer match on tv. I went to bed after 6:3 5:2 for Barbara and thought that she can't lose that match anymore. Babsi played with much more power and Amanda made a lot of mistakes in comparison to her usual game. This morning I read that Amanda has won that match... What happened?

Don't talk me of the match, I just wanted to go there and kick Babsi lol :( I think Babsi was two points away form winning but then choked and started to make lots of unforced errors. Amanda started to be more confident and she went even more to the back of the court so she could get every single back ball back. Babsi was doing everything well but just couldn't finish the points. After she lost the second set she was very frustated and irritated and was playing horribly. She still made some good points but always came with unforced errors after them. By the way Babsi needs to work on her fitness seriously if she wants to keep winning matches; she is very slow, also her volleys were terrible when she had to stretch or even when she didn't :o

I think this loss will make her think that she needs to change something, at least I hope so.

I dont know, judging from the reaction she gave after the match was over, I dont even know if she plans on changing anything.

wave, with Barbara you should ALWAYS wait until the last point is played. ;)

The crucial game was when she was serving for the match at 6-3 5-4. Until then she had played very concentrated and hadn't gieven Amanda any chance. But in that game she suddenly made 2 very dumb drop-shots which did hardly reach the net, so it was 0-40 and she lost the game. From then on she made more and more errors, while Amanda made less.
The 3rd set was close until 2-2, then it was all Amanda's. And of course Barbara made a DF to end the match.

She was just really tired and bothard, I think she was pissed she couldnt take the 2nd set and sorta gave it away at the end, she didnt seem to have her heart in it at all

i went to bed at exactly the same time - but i think i did it because i feared that this match wasn't over yet. to be honest, barbara already looked very tired - she's nt really in top shape, is she?

Thanks for the answers.

I think with Barbara it is not easy to judge if she is tired or unfit. She sweats very much, even if she is fit she's looking like she has played a three setter after some games in the first set.
Sorry to see once more that she can't finish a match despite all her good shots. How old is Barbara now?

Congrats for Amanda for staying in the match and fighting for the win.

barbara started getting tired and she then made more errors. if she had gone into net more she would have probably won. the long rallies really hurt her physically but she had a lot of opportunities to go to net and decided not to most of the time.

Yeah, I saw this match too  It was so dissappointing from Babsi's points of view, she definitly had the match in her hands but those two terrible drop shots at 5-4 were the tip of the iceberg :( Atfer that she never regained momentum
Babsi was in control of nearlly every point but could not put it away (and as usual the stupid aussie commentators were all ''if only she could volley'' ''back in my time we would volley that shot'' ) It really annoys me how they do that  They should deal with the fact that it just doesn't exist anymore on the womens game, bar a few players ;)
Anyway, I am very dissappointed at Barbara, I was looking forward to a clash with Nadia. But I hope she can learn from this experience, and come back bigger and better :)

Well...I was there courtside for the match so I saw the entire thing. Babsi actually kind of had a meltdown. She has always been pretty tempestous out there and that day was no different. Amanda frustrated the heck out of her by matching shot after shot and she was mixing it up as always....plus the crowd was really behind Amanda. I have to say that Babsi was actually rude on the court. First...she reached into her bag and opened up some new racquets and ripped off the plastic and just threw it behind her for someone else to pick up. She was always throwing things around. Water bottles, plastic, she even got mad and hit the sawdust container off the stand, sending sawdust all over the court netside...she just gave a look like..."Hey...sorry...no big deal..." and kept walking. They actually had to postpone about a minute till they cleaned it up....

Then at match point, when she double faulted (Babsi)...she raised her arms as if she just triumphed...it was kinda ugly. I was glad Amanda won, even though I have always appreciated Babsi...she just has this mental thing going on...
