Asagoe is a very good player. Very consistent, with deep, flat, hard strokes. I'm not that surprised as Magdalena has been struggling a lot lately.

that's really too much Magdalena
there have been so many disappointments

You played as you should have only 2 tournaments - Roland Garros and Birmingham and maybe Eastbourne and Los Angeles

just see:

Sydney - A Coetzer v. M Maleeva[8] 6/4 6/1 :o

Australian Open - E Bovina[20] v.M Maleeva[11] 7/5 4/6 7/5
Maggie was both in the 1st and second set 5-2 up. in the third she was 2-5 down, went to 5-5 and then ... :lol"

Tokyo - L Raymond v. M Maleeva[5] 2/6 7/6(7) 6/2
Maggie won easily the first set, was a break up in the second, had 3 match points, at the end she lost the match :awww:

Doha - E Likhovtseva[5] v. M Maleeva[3] 6/4 6/2
one of the many losses to Likhovtseva :o

Dubai - I Tulyaganova v. M Maleeva[7] 7/6(2) 7/5
the next out of form player to beat Magdalena

In Indian Wells and Miami Maleeva lost to Sugiyama and Shaughnessy. Of course no surpise :o

Then came the clay court season! omg

Warsaw - A Parra[Q] v. M Maleeva[5] 6/7(0) 6/4 6/1
Don't have any words for that

Berlin - D Chladkova v. M Maleeva[11] 6/7(1) 6/1 6/4
just see the last scoreline

Eastbourne - S Farina-Elia v. M Maleeva[8] 5/7 6/4 6/4
Maggie was 7-5 3-0 up in this match BUT ... If Maleeva had won this match she would have entered Top 10

Wimbledon - P Suarez v. M Maleeva[12] 2/6 6/2 6/3
after the great match against Barna in R1 and the very good grass season came of course the disappointment :tape: :tape:

San Diego - E Likhovtseva v. M Maleeva[10] 6/4 6/3

Los Angeles - A Sugiyama[4] v. M Maleeva[6] 6/2 4/6 6/2
In R2 Maggie finally defeated Likhovtseva 6-3 6-3 in R3 beat 6-0 6-3 Ruano Pascual

Toronto - M Serna v. M Maleeva[6] 2/6 6/3 6/4
re-match of the match against Suarez at Wimbledon

New Haven - M Serna v. M Maleeva[6] 7/6(4) 6/3
   :o

Any comments???

As a spectator at the match in BMh, Maggie did not kill Shino, and Shino was able to collect her champagne without too much discomfort. However someone did collapse in the stands during that match...

Thw match on Bmh was a lot closer then the scorline suggests.

Shino played very well today as well.

Aww, come on. She got to the round of 16 at the French and embaressed Clijsters for a set. She also got to the round of 16 at Austraila last year and Wimbeldon the year before.

I told someone on this board that Asagoe would take out Maleeva, and they told me that they talked to Shinobu and she said that she hated playing Maleeva because her game didn't match up well, but I still thought Asagoe would make the fourth round beating potentially Dokic in the third round.

A very shocking stat about Maggie this year: She hasn't beaten a player ranked above her after her win over Farina in Sydney.
Eleni was seeded higher at DFS Classic but ranking wise Maggie was higher. So that win doesn't count.
Maggie has been really struggling. As a Japanese, I'm very happy for Shinobu, though I would ve been happier with Maggie winning. I thought this was going to be her best chance to make it the further than the QF. She ruined another great opportunity like she has been doing all year around. She's been getting really nice draws week in week out. She could have made semis at Tokyo, Rome, Toronto. She ruined them all....

Another shocking stat: she hasn't faced many top players as she has lost to so many lower ranked players. I wonder how many tournaments she has lived up to her seeding in... As far as I can remember, that's only at FO, DFS.... I would like to know if there's any other event in whish she lived up to her seeding...

I'm sick and tired of "good luck in the next tournament". She keeps disappointing us.. I know indoor is her best surface but I'm really worried cuz she pre much solely depepnds on her Moscow result of her ranking points. After that chunk of points comes off, I wonder how far she could drop in rankings.... It's just said cuz she was at such a great position to make a serious surge in rankings at the beginning of the season and she actually got a lot of easy draws all of which she blew. Espeically the bigger the event is, the better draw she would get... She could've made QF at Wimby.. I think winning Birmingham wasn't such a big deal as it's not a big event. The reason why she's still ranked in the top 15 is that she had few points to defend until the indoor season since she played just as poorly in the same period but made up for it by winning a Tire I event where she gained a lot of bonus points. She blew another great opportunity... Her quarter of the draw was certainly as widely open with Venus' withdrawal as Ai's part. Having Myskina as a top 8 player in that section made it even better... Practically she couldn't have asked for a better draw.... well it is no used talking about it now...she blew it and isn't in the event no more..... sad indeed....

I love Shinobu's fighting spirit. Sadly, I don't think USA Network showed even highlights, but managed to show Loit-Stevenson, which was far from an upset in my mind.

Shinobu is not only the Barbie-Killer, but the killer of lower ranked top 20 seeds at slams.

Maleeva (10) - First round, 2003 US Open
Hantuchova (9) - Second Round, 2003 Wimbledon
Anastasia Myskina (19) - First round, 2002 French Open

Other notes - Took out Patty in 2000.

GO SHINOBU!

It's no big deal I think, we all know that Maleeva is capable of more.

The indoor season is the real key.

Poor Maggie. It's just too bad she had to face up against Shinobu so early.

Funny thing is that I usually find that Japanese players perform well in the hardcourt season leading up to the US Open and then crashing out early at Flushing Meadows. Now this year, it seems to be the other way around ;)

Anyway, I think Maggie does well on indoor/carpet. So I reckon she might grab more points later this year and hopefully end the season in the top ten :D

And to the starter of this thread - so what if Maggie lost? We can't expect her to beat the players she faces up well against all the time. Shinobu's favourite surface is hardcourt, so it's not too surprising that she gave Maggie a run for the money. I mean, just as Maggie had broken a string of losses to Elena Likhovtseva, so can Shinobu against her. As fans, I think we should be more supportive :)

You shut the hell up, moron. You don't have the right to label us the way you did. We got frustrated and disappointed. And if you are a fan of a certain player, you feel more or less the same. It's nothing like disrespect to Maggie. You're just not as faithful a fan as us. You just annoying me to death. None of us Maggie fans badmouthed her in this thread. We are disappointed and thus expressed it in words. Words don't speak as much as hearts. We have the hearts and always put them on cheering on her no matter what her results are. You're fuckin judgemental and sound so hypocritical. You aint good enough to tell us how to act. It's just frustrating as hell to see her continuously lose lesser ranked players week in week out. She's a top 20 player and supposed to beat them. She had so many opportunities to improve her ranking this year and she blew them all. If you didn't get frustrated when she loses, I would wonder if you are a real fan. How are we supposed to feel whe she loses a match she shouldn't have? I give her opponents the credit they deserve and I'm not disrespectful to them at all. I'm very happy for Shonobu not just because she's from my country but Maggie is my favorite and whever she takes on, I cheer on her. It doesn't matter what their nationalities are.

Being a fan doesnt mean you cant criticise your favourite player, but some of the people here should realise Maggie has been around for ten years giving her best and has given them a lot of enjoyment. You cant keep winning forever, and to start slagging her off because she is no longer doing so as regularly is just ridiculous. Yes, its disappointing when your favourite loses but theres no need to turn on them. I was an ASV fan throughout her entire career, and the last two/three years, while they were sad to me, I made the most of every opportunity to see her and cheer her on as I knew the clock was ticking. I've done the same with Maggie this year, as she's one of the last few players I really care about...so the moral of the story is; dont be so fickle. If you support someone fine, but they're only human.

GoGoMaggie

We ain't criticizing her nor mad at her. We just got disappointed as you all do when your favorites lose when they ain't supposed to. It's just natural we Maggie fans have high expectations and if she doesn't live up to them, then we feel disappointed. It's not like we feel betrayed by her or anything. I think it's a great thing to have high expecations on her cuz that gives a lot more to cheer her on for. ASV and Maggie have totally different careers. ASV had achieved pre much everything she was capable of before her career started going down and Maggie still has more to prove to herself as well as to us fans. I just think she's a better player then everyone else makes her out to be. Those who always say optimistic things about her ain't as dedicated fans as us. They have players who they cheer for much harder, thus they don't give as much of a shit as we do. Plus, she's not always winning unlike the Williams sistaz or Belgian duo. We Maggie fans always wait and wait...it's a long wait..till she finally comes up with some great stuff.
I know she isn't as young as say, Jelena or Daniela. so they may all have been slumping this year and you take a different stance toward Maggie. But I don't think Maggie is that old yet. It's a rediculous thing to say we should feel happy whatever her results are because she's retiring soon. Then, what are we supposed to do about it?
