View Full Version : Justine is the new Serena...

think about it for a moment...

Justine is the new Serena IMO. she is clearly chafing under her current subordination to an older "sister" who is no longer as dominant as she used to be. she is determined to keep beating and then surpassing her Belgian "sister". she wants to be #1 so bad she can taste it. like Serena.

and, like Venus, Kim doesn't have the psychological fortitude to hold on to her top-bitch position. she's gonna lose it -- it's just a matter of time.

such fascinating parallels!!!

this is the Williams sisters Part Deux as far as i am concerned.

and maybe that's why Justine can't stop talking about them...;) she recognises that there is a psychological equation between the Belgian and American "sisters". such interesting times we live in!

The only problem is, Kim is not the only player with a potential of beating Henin. And Henin is far from being as invincible as Serena.

I'm afraid it's a lot more simple than that, TC.

Justine can't stop talking about V & S because journalists can't think of anything else to ask her about. ;)

i disagree. Jen gets asked the same questions. i don't see her making trash comments every chance she gets. i also can't remember Stefano making outrageous comments like Justin'e coach has. no Janie, i really disagree. what's going on here is a variant of sibling riivalry. Justine is competing with Kim to become #1. and she knows that she has a chance now that S & V are out of the picture. no matter what she says.

"Trash" comments? LOL! Trash only in the eyes of certain beholders.

As for Carlos: Justine is NOT responsible for what comes out of her coach's mouth, any more than Venus & Serena can be held responsible for Richard's utterances.

Slight problem with your analysis, Capriati referred to them as belgian sisters, but henin refuted that and said sisters was far too clsoe a relation. So she doesn't look upon them as sisters, and well kim has her own sister and her name isn't justine

TC points out a couple of interesting paralells. Such as Serena and Justine using their hunger to drive them past Venus and Kim respectively. And it turns out that Serena and Justine have the killer instincts that Venus and Kim lack. And I never would have thought that a couple of years ago.

Nice theory except Justine's older sister isn't her sister and isn't older. Kim still has Justine's number and I expect her to dial it soon.

yes that's right, kim is younger than justine so the parallel really is only that like venus and serena they are from the same country. justine didn't struggle against kim because she was afraid of beating her, kim was just better. their rivalry has heated up a bit of late, but unlike venus and serena there hasn't been the complete shift in momentum, in that kim has still dominated a lot of the matches against justine, but just failed to finish them + they are both getting better and better IMO.

you could draw the same parallels for justine with serena or lindsay or monica.

no. Serena is better than Venus and Kim is better than Justine ;)

and also......Serena loves Venus (and vice versa) and Kim and Justine seem to dislike each other ;)

but i guess, everyone loves Kim and Venus more than the other two

I prefer JUSTINE to Kim and SERENA to venus. but I really really still like Kim. The "divide and conquer" tactics of those who want the fans of the belgians to hate each other ain't workin' with me cuz I like both!

I don't think tennischick intended the parallels to be taken quite so literally. The Williams were once thought of as a package and for a while there the Belgians were a package too. When both sisters started to do so well then they semed to get their own identity coz they became rivals. Before this year kim and Justine were just the belgians but now they are evolving into distinct personalities coz now they are being judged against each other instead of the pair against the rest. kinda like how the williams are. There are some who still look at them as a package though.
What I love about this anaology is the Justine has won a slam first though Kim was expected to just like the sisters. Kim is now going to go on a major grandslam tear and win four slams and the olympic gold before Justine is stung into action so she can complete a Justine slam! But that won't be for another couple years ;)
What makes the double dou amazing is that a tiny country like belgium produces two greats just about the same time. What's more amazing is that Richard Williams produces two under his roof.
Countries as established in tennis like Britain and Australia cannot even produce two in the top fifty each or even together!

what switz (and others) said!

However, this is a stressful day and we are all looking for ways to occupy ourselves so bizarre analyses must be indulged just for today :)

no trash only in the ears of certain listeners. ;) as for carlos, i agree with the comparison to Richard. makes my case of parallelism even stronger doon't you think?

thank you tennisfannn. yes i did not intend for my comments to be taken literally to the point where folks are pointing out that Kim and Justine are not sisters (duh) or that the one iis actually older then the other. i'm saying that there is a spychological correlate that i find interesting. and as you allude, in the same way that Serena got stung into action by Venus' dominance, i believe that something similar is happening for Justine. it is a form of sibling rivalry in a psychological sense. and i find it rather interesting. let's see where it leads.
