Becasue I am watching the Skills Challenge at the Arthur Ash Kids day and she looked like she was all right to me, the way she was swinging the racquet and I am sure the swing had to affect her back?

I'm wondering about that too-- then again it doesn't mean she could play a full match and have full mobility.

Speaking from experience -- and everybody's injuries are different -- sometimes it is the repetitive movement that exacerbates the pain in the back. Sometimes the pain is at a low level, and you think it is better but when put under stress, you find the same problem returns. Backs can take an enormously long time to heal even for a young person.

But I don't know what her problem is. I don't know if it is muscular or muscular/skeletal. I think she is really injured though from the reports I have read about her leaving the practice court in tears etc.

The question may be if she really wants to play becasue her modeling career pays a lot more than her tennis career.

How was Anna doing?

And answering the thread title I'm sure she is injured, or she would be playing tournaments right now.

Chronic back injuries are a pain in the ass. She is injured, believe me! Some days, it's fine. The day after, it's horrible.. It's a lot like Lindsay's foot..

Well, also speaking from experience, usually high heels aren't quite the thing to wear when you have a back injury. :)

Last year, Anna won that challenge and this year she finished co-3rd with Chanda with $25,000

who cares is anna is really injured or not, it's not like her presence in the field would have been a factor.

Yes, I really think she is injured. From watching her WTT tournament conferences, she was angry over the implication that she didn't love the sport and I got the feeling that she genuinely wants to play. Back injuries are difficult to deal with and constant repetitive movement can make them extremely difficult to deal with. I'm hoping that she and Soloman will reunite in December and Anna comes back strong in January. As for the high heels, they can aggravate a back problem, but I've known women with back and ankle problems who absolutely insist on wearing them regardless. Some ladies are a slave to fashion and I'm sure that Anna is no different! LOL! BTW, Enrique was on Access Hollywood the other day and admitted that he and Anna lived together.

I think she really wants to play and I hope she does soon. I also saw where she will try to play in Bali in a few weeks. I wish her all the best and hope she comes back and does well soon. Get well Anna:)

LOL! While I have no problem with Enrique, I somehow feel that I am the only person in the world who thinks he is the worst thing to happen to her tennis.

I can assure you that you're not the only person. However, I personally don't believe he is the worst thing.

They've been together for almost two years. No couple stays together that long for a publicity stunt. :p

I never thought Enrique was gay and to this day, I don't understand why anyone else would think that.

Still, I can't figure out why Anna chose Enrique over Sergei. When you look at both men, there really is no comparison.

A hitting a few shots and playing a tennis match (to win) are two different things.

I get him and Ricky Martin mixed up. So did Andy Roddick today, he was joking w/ Anna and started singing "Living Lovita Loca". Anna told him "WRONG SONG" Enrique is on the cover of Parade magazine today and he says "I hate saying this, but I haven't found a girlfriend I want to be with more than a week at atime. " he confessed. "I haven't had a steady girlfriend for the last five years". I guess this is an old quote.

... btw, back injuries do suck! I can't see Anna in a pair of posterpedic shoes!

Now Anna needs to drop Enrique and take up with Ricky Martin. :)

All of the off-court arrangements.

in what way?

I mean, I see your point, but the arrangements really aren't any different than they were in 2000 (one of her best year's on the tour).

Personally, I think Iglesias has been a huge distraction for her. Not now because she is injured, but last year when she was healthy and playing. After she and Enrique got involved, her tennis seemed to really suffer. We all remember that match at last year's USO. I don't think it is any coincidence that Anna lost that match during a time that Iglesias was in town.

I'm not trying to imply that this is Enrique's fault. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't, but her tennis was not the same after they got involved.

Serena had knee sugery, but you didn't see her there trying to run down balls and hit them. And don't tell me that you can run with a bad back becasue you can't. I know becasue I tried.

That's been Enrique's cover story since he and Anna started dating. Personally, I don't understand what the big deal is about saying, hey, I'm with so and so and we are happy, but to each their own.

Anyway, he did admit to living with her on Access Hollywood, so maybe he is tired of the cover story.

Yeah, and wasn't that the time someone reported having been kept awake by Enrique and Anna's noise from the next room?

And why would people think Enrique is gay? That never crossed my mind before I read this thread.

Well last time I checked Serena and Anna were two different people.

Just because Anna doesn't make a show of doubling over in pain doesn't mean she's not injured.

Anyway, my point was that she may be ready to hit but not ready to play tournaments.

Hope your back gets better soon.

I think staying out the US Open is all precautionary. Just gives her more time.

Also she may be in dubs remember.

liz, I have a bad back -- actually might have to have surgery, and I can run. It just depends on what is wrong with your back. There are so many different nerve branches coming off your back, it sort of depends on where and what the injury is.

You know, someone won the olympic marathon only about six weeks after knee surgery, so........

All I am saying unless you know exactly what the injury is, you don't know what might cause or not cause pain. One day I can do fine, and I think I am getting better and the then the next day or a few days later, I'm back in terrible pain. Soon it will be 7 months of this even with treatment.

OK. I get you point, but even by playing in an exebition, she leaves herself open for questions like mine.

Regarding my back, thank you.

she only hit backhands for 30 seconds and forehands for 30 seconds at the Skills Challenge - I doubt that would affect her back much at all - she knows her limits (including WTT doubles). Yes, I think she's REALLY injured - otherwise she would be competing at US Open singles.
