1.Letís be honest. Kim will be trashed after the US-Open no matter what. There are 2 possibilities

A.Kim wins the US-Open -> Comment ďshe only won because the Williams sisters werenít thereĒ
B.Kim loses -> Comment ďeven when the sisters arenít there, she canít win a slam, how pathetic for a ďnumber 1Ē ď

2. The sisters will not be at the US-Open, but nobody is to blame for that. Not Serena and Venus but especially not the other players. What should they do? Not go to the US-Open because the sisters arenít there or try to make it a good tournament? The Williams are probably the best 2 players in the world right now but isn't the WTA more than just Serena and Venus.

Yeah I guess your right, I just really hope that someone from outside the top 10 can win here, and make a name for themselevs. It would make the slam more entertaining.

But I would also like to see Kim win a slam, she deserves it.

i want a young up and comer to come through and win. winning a grand slam as a young player is huge for a player it could be the difference between being a regular grand slam winner and to being just an average top 50 player.

dava_russianrule, yes i'd love it if she won. but not only her. the 18's and under are the category i'm talking about.

but actually there are a few older players that could benefit like hantuchova, stevenson and vakulenko. all have potential to be great players. i also wouldn't mind if they won or at least had good results.

but yes sharapova is the one i'm really going for.

I would love masha to win but she would have to take out my Elena on the way.

Kim will get a lot of flack if she doesn't win and hangs on to number one for awhile. True enough.

But a lot of the problem will go away as soon as she wins a slam. Although some in the press will always trash anyone who does not beat a Williams sister.

What pisses me off is people forget that she won the tour championships, which I think provides the most points for a title win, if Im correct.

Yeah that's true... When she would win the US-Open they will trash her a little bit down in the first couple of weeks/months/... But in the end, they will only remember that she has won a grand slam and that's what matters...

3. Also with that "I won't be watching the US-Open now". Of course there will be many people who will not watch now because their favourites aren't playing this year and you can't blame them really. But to try to boycot this event by convincing the others not to watch this event is crap. Then you will only obtain that there could be much less live-covering in the future and the Women's Final next year could not longer be in prime-time. You don't know what the final will be. This can stiil be a great Tournament, just give it a chance...

Yeah i think Kim will have a rough deal but if she win's the open - shes nothing but a respectable grand slam champion in my mind just like Venus and Serena

No slams give you at least 100 more points.:wavey:

It would be great for a young up and coming player, or someone older but unexpected if they won, but if a top player had to win I wish Kim would. I think she probably wouldnt have won if Venus and Serena were there, but if she does win she would deserve it but to get more credibility as 'the number one player' she would need to beat them this year.

You might not be one of the fans who wanted to boycott the williams finals, calling it boring etc. But some people are hypocritical, saying Tennis is not only Venus or Serena or whatever. you might be right, maybe the ratings will be higher, who knows. But I see no reason why Williams fans should not complain, whine whatever.

I will congratulate anyone who wins this tournament and everybody should- however people should not be upset if the winners achievement is not highly regarded as normal when the arguably the two best players in the world who have reached the finals in 5 out of the last 6 grandslams, who have won 8 out of last 12 slams are not present...
Anyone who thinks winning this slam is of similar quality to the winner of this years other 3 slams is fooling themselves- congrats to the winner for winning their 7 matches but when the quality of opposition is reduced dramtically the quality of the win is reduced too- its a fact and one which must be accepted...

I see your point. I think whatever player may win this US-Open will have such a feeling of "Yeah, this is really really great but it would have been amazing if it was when all the best players were able to compete here..."

And let's hope that Davenport and Mauresmo can compete next week because otherwise it's becoming a HUGE disaster I'm afraid...

Amelie only had an upset stomach. That heat was bound to make someone sick.

Lindsay has been playing tournaments on that foot for a long time. I think she'll be there. I just hope she can finish. When she plays someone who can push her, she runs into problems, no pun intended. Maybe she saved the last shot she can get for her toe for the US open. As I understand, she had two and could only get three. Anyone know if that is right?

Very few here will ever discuss anything like grow-up's,
because we have hypocracy running rampid here and the need to get a 1up on "certain" someone else's. ;)

Nice idea though.
