The top half starts on Monday. When Lindsay had her post match press conference regarding her particiaption in the US Open, she said that the USO was concerned that she would not be able to play her opening match on Monday and she is in the top half of the draw.

Good. I'd rather the bottom half be on Tuesday. :)

Can they let Lindsay play later? I remember Wimbledon doing that for Anna K in 1998 (though she still didn't get to play).

Lindsay said they wont let play her on tuesday.

Q. Did you ask to move up to a Tuesday? Is that a possibility?

LINDSAY DAVENPORT: A couple years ago they made a firm rule that they do halves. There's no exceptions made. It was announced yesterday that the women's top half would be playing on Monday. I think to come back today probably wouldn't do much good. You know, people have tried in the past. They've just made a firm exception a few years ago to that.

I would hate the USTA forever if the top half played Monday.

No. Serena tried to have her match moved to Tuesday when she injured her ankle before the 2002 AO and they rejected her request and that is why she withdrew.

but they did let Sampras once, i remember that

Aug 24th, 2003, 02:39 AM
they let Sampras play later in the day, but not the next day

Aug 24th, 2003, 02:54 AM
They gave Sampras a Wednesday start once didn't they?

I think it was the 2001 or 2002 WImbeldon where Pete was suffering from an injury and asked for a Tuesday start when he was scheduled for Monday. Wimbeldon said no, but since he was a former champion, they scheduled his match as the last match of the day on Centre court.
