Vera...

I didn't watch this match... but there's a decent chance that Vera probably went even crazier in this match, then she did last week.

In another second round match, Anna Pistolesi of Israel staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Russia's Vera Zvonareva.

Down a set and 5-1, she rallied to win 0-6 7-6 6-2.

A recent winner at tournaments in Poland and Finland, Pistolesi lifted her game when on the brink of defeat and then took advantage of her opponent's increasing frustration, eventually reducing her to tears.

At the end of the battle Zvonareva collapsed on the baseline in despair as Pistolesi walked round the net to shake hands and embrace her.

Pistolesi also recovered from 4-6 3-5 to beat Jelena Kostanic in the Helsinki final 10 days ago.

I hope she bounces back from this... losing like this can play with the mind.

Wow. I don't like Vera's attitude on court when she's losing. She's like a spoiled brat or something. She won't be a top player until that changes

Vera is still very young and inexperinced as a tennis player. Anna a tenacious veteran.

I have to admit I was shocked that Anna came back and won that match. Glad she did not say die this time.

But don't start bad mouthing Ver; gosh people stop that crap. She is gonna get better. Hopefully this is the last time she will ever blow a big league like that again.

Congrats Anna and better next time Vera. And great sportmanship from Pistolesi too.

I don't think it's that bad a loss. Pistolesi is a very good player. Though, if the loss was a result of her imploding it's an awful way to lose.

Shocking to say the least!

Congrats to Pistolesi...this must be such a gratifying win, to comeback from so far behind! I know it wasn't for a title but I hope her determination and fighting spirit can be a beacon for her country and the tragedy they are experiencing now:sad:

I saw the match. It was amazing. They had LONG rallies. There were a few factors going into the result. I'm not the biggest Vera fan, but I really felt badly for her. The crowd was against her from when she walked on court. The whistled at many of her shots, never clapped for any of her winners, etc, etc. But, whenever Pistolesi won any kind of point, the croud went wild. Vera seemed to be dealing with it pretty well, until 51 in the third. It was thirty all, she hit one wide and the croud went WILD - absoutely wild. After about ten seconds of that, she waved her hand in disgust at the croud, only to receive more grief. It went downhill from there. Vera got really upset, and started flipping out - throwing the racquet, yelling at the crowd. But again, in her defense, she was being treated really badly by the crowd, and she got some bad calls on big points - once it gave Pistolesi a break. In ther third set, after losing in tiebreak, she was down like 41 and starting crying in a changeover. She was cramping but refused to call a medical TO. She went back on court, Pistolesi held serve, then Zvonareva did. At the changeover, she again cryed, and it appeared as if she was in even more pain. During Pistolest's service game, Vera fell after saving MP, and couldn't get up. I must say - the crowd was AWFUL. Booing her and just being mean. When she got up, the few people clapping were drowned out by the booing. Vera then got to break-point, and was still being harassed. She was crying. She lost the point, a fell on MP due to cramping - I mean just collapsed. Couldn't get up to hit the ball, and that was it.

Poor Vera. I just fell really badly, because I feel the real reason she lost was because of the crowd.

Why aren't the Vera fans complaining about the crowds behaviour ?

i saw the match from start to finish and i agree with henport, the crowd was brutal, but so was veras tantrums, she needs a sports psychologist or somthing to get her head staright any way, at one point the people behnid me were even betting if pistolsei could get a game haha, it wasnt necessarily somthing anna did just a vera melt down, i mean the first set and almsot al the 2nd she played phenominal, blasting winners, being pateint and sneaking in awesome droppers, then she lost it, sad i think about the cramping too. great match though, one more hng, whyd she wear a visor at night, doenst make sense to me!!

On ESPN they didn't even mention that Vera was on the ground from cramps.
I still can't believe Vera and Nastya entered singles and doubles the week before a major.
Vera's 18 and she'll learn how to close out matches.

Guess Vera is becoming the latest "bad" girl in tennis. Just goes to show that any player can get a crowd against her, not just you know who.
