... named WILLIAMS at the U.S. Open this year.

With the entry of a healthy VENUS at the Open, things are looking good for that engraver to keep putting the name WILLIAMS on the annual trophy. :)

VENUS has dominated JHH and she is a mistress of hard court tennis; Clijsters may still be shell shocked from the spectacular play of an injured VENUS at Wimbledon.

There is a lot of collective nail biting going on as many players wonder if they will be unlucky enough to be in the half of a vengeful VENUS as they wait for the draw to be announced on Wednesday.

Go VENUS!

if venus doesn't win the trophy, id like to see her respectfully be dethroned in the final by either justine or kim based on justine and kims play and game, more than based on venus health and game.

I can sense this is true for some fans too!

I hope you'll be fine in case that doesn't happen because you know most Willies seem to take these things a little too personally from what i understand.

With just one Venus in the draw the chances of a Williams holding the trophy at the end of the USO are exactly half of what they were last year. Besides when was the last time we only had one Williams in the draw ? The AO 2002 if i remember correctly and we all know what happened . The only Williams standing didn't even get close to getting her hands on the trophy and lost way before even some of her non fans expected her to. So you see you never know ...

Maybe Capriati would pleasantly suprise some of her fans and win it all (I just hope you won't have a heart attack if and when that happens);)

Well to me it doesn't look that way. but certainly would be greater than anything if that did come true.
Go Venus!!! Do ya have the gutts to prove me wrong, my girl!!

One of the most logical posts I have read in a week. :worship: :worship:

decent post, but coming from a williams fan, i didnt' expetc venus to advance that far, after her tendinits flare when she could brarely even more in her i believe 3rd round?

with this abdominal injury, venus has shown she can play through it a lil more. so i still think she can win the open injured. her chances are just a lot lower.

Yeah, we all know what happened at the Oz.....but this is AMREICAN HARDCOURTS that we are talking about and we all know what Venus Williams in combination with american hardcourts means most of the time: Victory!!!

If venus is healthy and plays, I would not bet against her here..

There is however one trend..

Since 1999, Serena missed three Slams, that Venus played, and the results of Venus in those Slams are:

Wimbledon-99 QF
RG-2000 QF
AO-2002 QF..

I guess the logical continuation will be:

US Open2003 QF.

If VENUS does not win, it is with certainty that the Caapy won't win.
Better it would be Momo or Sharpie.

But that won't happen because this Open heirloom will stay in the WILLIAMS family. :p

Venus has never lost before the semifinal of the USO and unless she is really hurt, I don't see her losing before then. Capriati is another story; she never even reached the USO final.

Diya - You two seem to think alike.

This Open could be one of the greatest wins of the mighty VENUS. :)

Not a great draw, but a good draw for VENUS at the Open. I want to see her defeat the Cusser and the best of Belgium enroute to this title. :)

Go VENUS!!
