:wavey:

I was watching sportscenter last night and on the bottom line it had a tease for 'Rome is Burning' and the special guests were 'Jason Giambi and Serena Williams'.

Now, you know I stared at the bottom line for at least two minutes in disbelief because:

1. Jim's an asshole who likes the sound of his own voice,
2. Jim's an asshole who said that he missed the days when Richard decided their matches,
and
3. Jim's an asshole.

Did I mention Jim's an asshole?

I'll be skeptically watching at 7:00 EST on ESPN and I'll probably end up  the entire time. And I'm sure, it'll be remote from her house or her gig in Toronto if she can walk.

Just wanted to let you guys know. peace out.

thanks, cariosity. so i take it that you're not that fond of jim? ;) in non-tennis a week or so ago, i c/p a blurb he did about ben affleck and jennifer lopez eating at red lobster. i realize he can be a real jerk but there are moments when i'm in the right frame of mind to appreciate his attempts at humor. :o

I find it hard to listen to him. He's like acrylic nails on a chalkboard; you're not irritated until you hear the sound (of his voice). I watch him on mute and he tries to out-talk his guests when he doesn't respect them. We'll see if he tries to out-talk Serena. :tape:

I'm not a Rome fan. I've never heard a satisfatory explanation for his repeated insults of Chris Evert. It would be nice if she was in studio with him. She'd no doubt wear something that would completely discombobulate him.

I hate Rome's voice because it completely reminds me of the obnoxious "surfer dudes" that I went to school with. It's such a condescending tone, and his smirk makes me sick. Come to think of it, Rome very well could be one of those surfer dudes who I went to school with.

I guess the lady in red (Rari) doesn't like Rome's acerbic sense of humour. ;)

Volcana, Rome has apologized for calling former NFL quarterback Jim Everret Chris Evert to his face many years ago which spurred Everret to rough up Rome on the set! Rome has said he wished he never said that. But he was a young loudmouth then looking to stir the pot.

I'm looking forward to seeing Serena tonight on "Rome Is Burning".

babe: this should be a good segment... I think Serena will give him the what for but be real cute and most importantly SEXY about it.

Oops! Sorry Cari. I must have been thinking red and capitalized the R. :o

Cari, as for Rome, how do you know what he's like if you don't watch him? Gotcha! ;) And he does rub me the wrong way sometimes. But he knows his sports and doesn't pull any punches. But it took me a couple of years to get used to him.

"Jim Everett, an NFL Rams and Saints quarterback and apparent cave man wannabe, attacked Jim Rome host of ESPN2's Talk2 in 1994, because the little sissy boy just couldn't handle being called Chris Everett (after tennis star Chris Evert). Some consider the event a staged publicity stunt while others defend Everett because, after all he warned Rome. Everett and all those who think you can commit assault and battery on someone for calling you a name if you warn them first should all be locked up until they realize we are living in a civilized society and that the second grade ended a long time ago.

Rome: Serena, it's good to see you, fixed a match lately??

Serena: You know what Jim?? That's not true and we don't appreciate you and your running buddy Johnny Mac talkin mess about us on the show.

Rome: But you've fixed matches before, it's obvious, admit it Serena.

Serena: You got one more time to say some stuff like that to my face and we are going to have to take a station break.

Rome: Oh please, your father is a gravy-trainer.

Serena: A gravy-trainer that has enough money to buy your show.

Rome: Yeah, whatever Serena, he has fixed enough matches to get the full amount of dollars out of your girls

*Serena gets up throws, over the table, puts Rome in a headlock*

Serena: What did you say now boy??

*Rome still being defiant: Get off me!! Everyone knows you fix matches, and I don't even know anything about tennis!! SE-CUR-I-TY!!

*Serena tightens her grip: Is that right?? Well since you want to act like a bytch I'll treat you like one. From now on your name is Chrissy.

*Rome choking: NEVER!!

Serena: What's your name boy?!

Rome: Jim...

*Serena tightens the grip: Did you see the Wimbledon semifinals?!

Rome: Ugh... Yes.

Serena: That's what I do to liars, you don't want a piece of that do you.

Rome:......

Serena: DO YOU!!!

Rome: NO!

Serena: Then what's your new name biiiiiiitch!!

Rome: Chr....Chr....Chrissy.

Serena: That's what I like to hear, and for this very occasion I have brought you some retro 80's gear just like what your idol Chris used to wear for the rest of the show. Now go ahead and put that on like a nice girl, Chrissy.

Rome: No way forget this you must be out of your...

Serena cuts in: Remember the Wimbledon semifinals Chrissy...

Rome obeys orders sniffling: I can't believe this...*Rome puts on the fluttery skirt and colorful blouse*

*The last segment of the show is nearing end, Rome says: Thanks to Serena Williams for being on the show, I'm Jim...(Serena shoots a damning glare at Rome) err... (voice cracks) Chrissy Rome, and I am out.

Rome is an ass and he has been dying to get VENUS, SERENA or Anna K. on his show.

However, whenever Rome gets a guest on his show, whether he has been harassing them or not, he then does some serious butt kissing, probably in the hopes of getting a return engagement from them in the near future.

He thought Venus was sort of faking her injury, and he also said that Justine Henin needed an edge to defeat Serena at the Frenc because Justine is smaller, so it was okay for her to do that from a competitive angle to win, but not okay to do it from a sportsmanship angle. Mary C quickly rebuked him, and told him that Henin was totally wrong and that he couldn't be condoning that. You notice Johnny Mac wasn't on NBC for the final, but I guess he passed his commentary to Mary C because she sure tore down that match.

he was asked to do the BBC for the final. and him and Tracy Austin were pretty good. maybe he knows the popularity of the Williams sisters here due to their Wimbledon domination recently (seriously, the only other womens name non-fans know is Anna Kournikova)

Johnny Mac tries to fake like he likes the sisters, but I think he is jealous of women's tennis in general because Martina N. and Steffi Graf are quite possible the two most known names in the world relating to tennis, and he is not really that popular worldwide.

I like Jim. He's acidic and to the point. It's alot of other sports out there, besides TENNIS and he's pretty much on top of them.

His entire mantle is to be controversial. I've grown to like him. Maybe some of you can too.

Cari, you prefer a sometimes witty and sometimes funny gigglefest like "PTI" to a hard htting show like "Rome Is Burning"? As the legendary Jon McEnroe would say, "You cannot be serious"! ;)

And Cari, was that "rut roh" you gave me ealrier in this thread a "rut roh" like Astro the dog from "The Jetsons" says? If so that was very funny honey! :p

I can't stand Jim Rome like most people on God's green earth. That's all I'm saying about my feelings on him. He's an asshole; the end. PTI is the best program on ESPN, et al after Sportscenter and OTL (I'm hoping Playmakers make the list... it looks good from the previews). I was actually thinking of scooby doo but astro said it too. :p

With that said, he didn't go after Serena like he normally goes after people, partly because he wanted to tap that ass. He actually preferred to butter her up and yada yada. She seems pretty upbeat after the surgery and she was smiling like a chesire cat. She looked FABULOUS! Absolutely adorable... blue off the shoulder top with mini-ruffles on the edges. Her boobs were not visible and I'm sure everybody was disappointed. :tape: Her hair looks a bit darker but it could be because the dye is growing out (her ends were light brown and her roots were jet black but it was barely noticible). She had on a modest necklace that had a really simple gold with rhinestones 'S' pendant. She had on natural makeup and she looked really excited to get back on the court after plenty of rest.

She said, when asked, that she was upset at the ranking system and not Kim. She also said it encourages you to play more which causes more injuries. When asked about acting, she said it's definitely her second career and the main thing after tennis. She also said she loved tennis and blah blah blah. Rome said something about her dad being fed up with tennis and that Rich said something about them taking up ice skating or sailing :tape: and Serena said that they're sticking to tennis, mainly because her dad likes her little tantrums on the court.

When asked about Venus, Serena said she wouldn't have gotten to #1 without her. Venus is her motivator and vice versa. They're sisters for life and the usual blah blah blah.

That was it. :D

I saw the show, and SERENA was VERY pretty. Actually, she was gorgeous. I can't really break down the makeup and appearance stuff like Cari did, but it did look natural and not heavily applied.

About the interview: I leave empty like I leave all their other interviews. Venus and Serena are all good. The sisters manage to keep the comments light and without any form of controversy. Serena and Jim Rome seemed more determined to play footsy than they did to deal with burning issues. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where I've left it thinking that I know something that new about them that I didn't already know. There was that interview in Essence Magazine once that was pretty cool, most of them are pretty guarded. I'm guessing that the sisters want it that way too. Actually, I guess I would too if I were in their positions.

LOL. .. . even Oprah was commenting on how she couldn't get any juicy stuff outta the Sisters.

They NEVER let their guard down. I wanted to know about her relationship with Keyshawn. I wanted the nitty gritty about her situation with JHH @ the FO(=).

Also, I wanted to know more of the allegations about match fixing.

I was in a bar and SAW the interview, but didn't hear it. I thought Serena looked great, just elegantly simply beautiful and happy.

I guess i didn't miss anything too interesting, ..

did he ask her when she expects to return to playing tennis?

did mr. rome not follow up to the question about the ranking system (where serena said the system encourages you to play more and leads to injuries) by asking her about her and Venus' injuries, even though they play less than usual?

I'm not trying to be combative, I just think that its hard for serena and venus to argue that playing more leads to injuries, when they play LESS and also get injured... they've always played a less than full schedule, and have had their share of injuries. VEnus is hardly playing at all these days it seems and has been injured quite a bit.

anyway, i was so glad to "see" serena.. I feel like I haven't "SEEN" her in ages.

The interview was nothing special... they swatted the lackluster back and forth.

She wore what looked to be an off the shoulder blouse... best shoulders in all of sports. Tamed weave...for once. (I prefer the sisters in braids myself.) Her make-up was appropriate, and she must be drinkin' plenty water, nice clear complexion.

The best of her? That smile. Somebody started a best smile thread here which was a waste of the person's time. Serena Williams easily wins that category.

In my opinion, Serena is an accident waitin' to happen when in interviews. Too many times she's talked too damn much and made herself appear the fool.

I noticed the same thing. There's hardly ever anything new to learn because they don't let their guard down, so we often end up with the same type of responses.

I'm glad that they finally learned not to let their guard down in interviews. The truth is that most people don't really want to learn anything new, they want Serena and Venus to say something controversial so that they (the people who don't like V&S) will have something else to attack them about.

They have nothing, so now they complain that they are too guarded. I say good for V&S. Beware the sharks.
