The Williams sisters have alreadly been mentioned twice (Martina Hingis once). As a teenager, she was resentful of the attention the Williams sisters were getting.

Wow, I'm really surprised that Bud Collins and others are using "past tense" when talking about her. It's as if she is dead, retired or whatever.

They are using past tense becasue she isn't the player she one was.

The E! show was okay. I think around as good as the ESPN Sports century.
I'm looking forward to the VH-1 show. And then the Beyond the Glory, or whatever other shows about Anna.
They grouped Anna with Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan several times.
But the only tennis player Anna mentioned was Hingis.
The Williams sisters maybe got 10 seconds out of one hour. So I'm not sure what the thread starter is talking about.
My favorite part were the recent clips when Anna was with David Wheaton. Anna looked great.

Apparently yoy didn't watch the who show. The Williams sisters were mentioned when it was said that she resented the attention they got when they were teens and Venus was mentioned briefly when speaking of the 1998 Liption Championships.

Sucked ass. Had a number of historical inaccuracies as well.

I have to admit that E's off-court footage of Anna was fantastic. I had only seen pics from the WTT press conference for instance. Nice to see actual video. Good stuff!

Kudos to my old pal Steam for referencing the embarrassing number of historical inaccuracies. When the narrator said Martina Hingis was among the players Anna beat at the 1998 Lipton tournament, I nearly jumped out of my seat. Idiots. But I guess this was never intended to be a tennis piece. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a six. The never before seen (by me at least) footage definitely merits it. ;)

Your thoughts?

lizchris, Anna never mentioned any tennis player but Hingis. And at least 10 tennis players were mentioned.
If you think that show was about your favs, you should watch it again with a stopwatch.

They didn't mention that she played challengers in 2003 but mentioned that she was injured and it was doubtful she could play a full schedule. It wasn't really anything new to people who follow tennis

Go back and reread my original message. I never said that Anna mentioned Venus and/or Serena. I said they were mentioned in the story. Why, I don't know, since they never played her that much.

The overuse of that shitty Binge song knocks down its score considerably. Their four who spoke the most via interviews were Peter Bodo, Bud Collins, the guy from Star, and the hack biographer. Obviously, they weren't the only ones interviewed but right there is only 25% legitimacy (Bodo). Bud Collins is very creepy, the Star guy had no fucking clue about tennis, and the biographer couldn't even pronounce names correctly. Hack work.

The Hingis/Lipton one was the worst screwup in my eyes but there were quite a few others that I noticed such as the Williams jealousy stemming back to '95. I highly highly doubt that she was jealous of all their "press" back then. Then they sort of screwed up some of the Bure timeline. The sort of stuff that a little research would have helped out with.

monicAnna you're right. Anna talked about ages players won at.
I would have prefered quotes from other tennis players rather than Bodo all hour.

They mentioned it at the end. What did you expect? Them to give a full on medical diagnosis? Not like they had any inside information.

they were mentioned to add some controversy.

anyway, its what i was expecting of e. actually i was expecting worse since im sure she refused an interview with them. they dont care about her tennis, they care about her celebrity. so we really cant expect them to look for facts.

atleast the footage of key biscayne, recent omega railmaster even, and wtt interviews was new stuff and not the same shit weve seen over and over.

i cant believe they showed anna-fans.com on there. what a rip-off that site is, never ever updated anymore.

There's a bevy of Russian blondes and non Russian blondes to choose from now.. taller, thinner, title winning ones at that.

Resenting whatever mentions the Willies received? Ofcourse she did.

Show me a vanilla wafer that has ever felt that a chocolate chip deserved any sort of favorable mention along side/over it...

While this dreadful show could have been much worse, there are a number of things people should note about it.

I. this was an hour long show about a world famous tennis player, yet there wasn't one single interview with any other tennis player.

2. There were no current interviews with Anna. There were some old clips, but obviously, the show itself did not interview Anna.

3. All the interview were with media people, so this was basically the media interviewing the media.

4. Many of those interviewed told us what Anna wanted, what Anna liked, etc. How did they know what Anna wanted or liked? Not a one of them said, "Anna told ME that what she wanted...." It was all speculation on their part as to what she wants.

5. There were some factual errors, including the idea that Anna beat Martina in Miami in '98.

6. While pointing out that Anna and Martina split at the end of 2000, the show failed to point out that they reunited in 2001 and won the Australian Open together again in 2002. The show tried to give the impression that Martina dumped Anna as a friend and that was the end of it. Martina and Anna are friends to this day, as both have pointed out repeatedly.

7. Towards the end of the show, it began to talk about Anna's spate of injuries, almost indicating that there was some character flaw in her that led to physical injury on the tennis court.

8. Most important of all, the show was horribly repetative. It said the same thing over and over again, Anna was pretty, sexy, etc., time after time. Mostly, this "Hollywood True Story" was an excuse to show Anna in lots of sexy shots. So, it was the same thing the media does over and over again. It slams Kournikova for her "too sexy" persona, but never passes up a chance to run those pictures so it can cash in on her.

"Show me a vanilla wafer that has ever felt that a chocolate chip deserved any sort of favorable mention along side/over it..."

ROFLMAO!!!

It's pretty sad that her "run to the semis" of Wimbledon is her greatest sporting accomplishment. She had/has loads of talent is this is the most she made of it all? That's a damn shame to borrow a phrase from the movie "Better off Dead"

"What a waste of a perfectly good white girl"

While they did acknowledge her tennis, E! seemed more interested in talking about her off-the-court celebrity. It was what I expected it to be. Anyone expecting a great biography, I'm sure, would be extremely disappointed. E! is an entertainment channel and as such, it's angle will be purely from an entertainment perspective. Me, I watched from that perspective and enjoyed some interviews with Anna that I had never seen before. I do agree with one thing Bud Collins said, the pressure on Anna every time she steps on the tennis court is enormous. Far more than any other player on the tour faces. I do hope that she can find a way to deal with this injury and come back. I would hate to see her become known as the pretty blonde Russian who dates famous men and occasionally plays tennis.

Of course, being a Fedorov fan, I definitely enjoyed the shots of him!

Is it just me or does anyone else think Anna's tennis went downhill once she started dating Iglesias?

Of course they focussed on her off court activities, she's more accomplished off the court than on, what did you expect. Do you think her tennis exploits could fill an hr? At best maybe a 15 min. segmant on 60 mins.

Collins was rather confusing. He acknowledged that Hingis/Kournikova were at one point the best doubles team in the world, but later said Anna has never accomplished anything.

How could she be the best in the world at doubles and never have accomplished anything?

The tennis press gets most of the blame, because it usually just cannot be bothered to cover doubles. Go to a touranment and you won't see one out of 20 reporters sitting through a doubles match. They're more likely to be found in front of the nearest TV set that has cable, watching some other sport, rather than women's doubles.

Why do Williams fans so hate Anna Kournikova? From some of the comments here, it appears to be quite racial in nature.

It's nice that you gerenalize. Typical, but not surprising.

I don't hate Anna; I don't even know her, but she is the biggest waste of talent in tennis today.
