Justine sheds some of those points:) She is 684 points from #2 and 728 from being the 13th #1 in WTA history;) Let's grab that in the US Open Justine!!!

Serena will lose more than 1000 points after US Open, Justine only reached the round of 16 last year. What does Justine needs to do in order for her to grab that #1 after US??

And another 4 roaring that way :) ..... Elena L is increasingly looking like the mother hen to a massive clutch of chicks in the top 30.

The side effect of this is that it is getting harder pointswise to get into the top 30 - if you are someone like Sciavone moving back towards the top 20 you keep on being passed by these Russian trains steaming past you. :(

Patty's ranking end of yearis looking like mid 30s unless she can replace some of last year's big point carpet scores

She needs to win the title, for starters, without Kim making the Final. If Kim loses in the Semis, then Justine likely will need excellent quality points almost every round to get #1.

Justine needs to win the title for sure, and needs Kim not to get past the quarters, if Kim gets to the semis it's a toss up, depends on quality points for both players and how many points Kim has in her 17th tournament, I am too lazy to check that but Justine's 17th tournament is 101 points, it means she starts the US Open with 21 points less than she has now but to whatever she adds you have to substract 101 points.

With Kim I am not sure but I guess her 18th tournament is a little higuer, probably around 150 so it shouldn't be a big factor considering the amount of point on play.

:o OMG that is PATHETIC! As for the no. 1 thingie, I am 99% positive one of our ranking experts on the board figured last week that if Juju were to win the Canadian Open AND the US Open, Kim would have to lose in one of the first four rounds (before the QF) for Justine to become no 1 after the US Open.

also I am so tired of Hantuchova in the top ten. nothing against her but that is just got to change. not a reflection of where she is. thank god dokic is gone already!!!
