12 is a lot. The problem is this perception that Justine has been consisently outpacing Kim for a long time. That is simply false. At the beginning of this April, 4 and a half months ago, Justine's career was simply not close to Kim's by any measure. She has had a very strong 4 and a half months.

Thats amazing! Both Kim and Justine have more titles than my fave Jen Jen!! And they've only been around for a few years!! They will definitely break the 30 title mark!!

Kim won 4 tournaments in Singles Activity and 2 grand slam titles + 1 tournament in Doubles Activity in that same 4 and a half months!

you're absolutely right. Justine and Kim did hit quite a few milestones at similar times (making GS finals, getting into the top 10 etc.) but Kim had an overall slightly better 2001 and she took off like greased lightning after the US Open last year.:eek: It's funny how people forget how, before the Aussie Open, Kim was being described as 'the world's best player' and 'the chosen one' (funny, she hadn't won a grand slam then either :scratch: ).

Justine was pretty much written off after the AUSOpen as someone who couldn't compete against the power hitters and was doomed by her mental frailty, never to beat someone ranked above her...Venus, Serena and Kim all had owned her for the previous couple of months and Kim's ascent to no.2 wasn't nearly as big a surprise as Justine being the one to break Serena's winning streak. Forget about April, even after having a phenomenal clay season, Justine was much less of a favourite for RG than either Kim or Serena. For most 'experts' Kim was still the better bet even going into the finals.

It's amazing what difference a few months can make.

For the past 20 weeks, yes. Before that, Justine could have played as much as she wanted, she wasn't going to match Kim. Kim will be back. Soon.

12 is a lot for her short career, Jen only has 13 which I was even more shocked about, I thought she had a lot more wins.

Kim will be back if she plays less. Look at what happened to her. She tried to play four straight weeks and she ran out of gas in the fourth. She shouldn't have played Toronto. Justine's schedule IMHO is much better planned.

I guess that Kim played that many tournaments because she saw the option of becoming number 1, but I don't think she would have played that much if she wouldn't have that chance. Now in the U.S.Open Juju will get a very lil chance to become also the number 1, but she has to win the title with very good bonus and Kim would lose before the semis.

Jenn needs to work a lot. It's gonna be two years after her last title. Suddenly she doesn't seem to be able to bt the top 5 players. When was the last time she bt Venus, Kim, Serena, Justine or Lindsay? Even Amelie. She's become the classic top ten that only bts the ones that are lower ranked than her.
