Well done Justine.
Still, what was up with Lina?
Nervous because it's her first final?
Justine didn't play too well either IMO, she's changing her game so much... :tape:

Lina wasn't feeling well, tired, the injury bothering her and her stomach or something seemed to hurt.
I felt sorry for her, i really did.
Justine played perfect tennis on top of that

i am sorry for Lina's injury, but tiredness is not a reason for a match loss. Justine also played 3 setters yesterday, and she did play way later than Lina.

I feel sorry for you and the other Lina-fans.
She wasn't herself today and I think everyone knows it. She still made a huge progress this week, I hope she'll realize that soon. The great match against Paola was a bit too much, I guess and the final came too soon

Lina played 4 three set matches this week which is really tough (mentally and physically) for a player who's still returning from an injury

still she had alot of close games.

Lina..... still proud of her week's work :)
just  it ended badly

Final was one match too much for her.

Justine's serve was just WOW, 11 aces and about double number of winning serves.

yuk ..... that was an ugly match.

Anyway congrats Justine :)

There was something wrong with Lina imo. Maybe nerves or something. At one point after tossing the ball she stopped and lay her hand on her head. I felt a bit sorry for her. But reaching the finals and beating #1 on her way is a great achievement.

Damn, that went fast!! Juju was popping it today! 11 aces( could have been more, but the linesman was blind like hell!).
Juju has really been having a monster season: THREE tier I( more than Kim has in her WHOLE CAREER! ,), GS.

Hmmm.....me think Kim will have to start thinking about that no.1 earlier than she expected!

I think Lina was a bit tired, under a lot of pressure and maybe a bit impressed by the whole situation.

Juju also kept on serving aces on important moments. Everytime when Lina had a chance, she served an ace

Lina really cute ;), but maybe this final was a bit too early for her.

It wasn't the best match, but Justine was there when she had to be there.

CONGRATS JUSTINE, FOR WINNING YOUR 6TH TITLE!

I am of course happy that Justine won.

But I really hate when two players I like play the final, I hate that one has to lose, it's a lot of easier when I don't like the other player so I really enjoy every point my favourite wins.

Justine's serve was on fire, the rest of her game was ok but not great. Lina was visibly tired and nervous, and I believe she felt dizy in some moments.

I don't know if anybody noticed but there was a points when Justine hit an ace and was called out, but Lina gave the point to Justine, that makes me like Lina even more.

I really hope she has a good US Open, what happened in this final doesn't spoil her great performance in this tournament.

Great week for Justine, without being at her best she still won the tournament

This post is 100% CLASSY! Clearly it is difficult for you TBE to see your girl lose so comprehensively but no sign of bitterness from you at all!!! This is what some other posters could learn from you!

A couple of times she really proved what she was capable of but erm...finishing touch was missing :o

Sometimes your opponent is just too good. This was one of those times for Lina.

But on the bright side, she made it to the final of a Tier I, played a great week and if she keeps this kind of performance up, then she'll certainly be a consistent and powerful performer. Good luck and congrats on a great tournament Lina!!! Today, Justine was just too good for you.

bandabou - Interesting you aren't criticizing Justine's draws/wins like you do Kim...I mean, who did Justine really face this tournament? To win a Tier 1 without even facing a top 10 player isn't all that impressive.

Yep indeed, I have to agree with some people.

To be honest, I don't think Lina was injured. But she seemed to be a bit dizy sometimes. Maybe it was the pressure what made her dizy

Thatīs a very good point. This tier I victory indeed was too easy to really read too much into it. But still I like Justineīs victories more than Kimīs....
Charleston tier I beats Serena in the final, ending Serenaīs unbeaten run.
Berlin tier I: beats Amelie and Kim back to back amongst others to win it.
Roland Garros: beats no.1 Serena again( again stopping her GS matches winning streak!) and no.2 Kim back to back to win her first GS.

Thatīs MORE IMPRESSIVE than any title victory Kim has this year. When Juju wins she wins big...beating the top players!

And smash, I think even you will agree with me on this one. Nothing one-sided here.

I think you used to pretend you were a Justine fan right? Well, we know that's not true. And we know it's CRAP that Justine had an easy draw....she had MoMo and then Kim....it's not her fault that they both sucked this week....and she ended up beating the player who beat kim and beating the player that beat MoMo ( a player she lost to earlier this year on her BEST surface....) so why don't you just fuck off? thanks!

Lina didn't put up a good fight in anyway in this game, if this is the best performance she can muster for a final, well she should find another profession.

If I was her coach I would walk out on her tonight. :wavey:

Fortunately, you're not a coach

Considering all the shit that's been dumped on the Williams sisters for not giving their opponents credit after beating them, I SHOULD make a big deal out of this. Start seventeen threads about it, bring it up in threads that have nothing to do with it, generally try to make it more important that Justine's win. After all, none of that was racially motivated. It was TOTALLY FAIR, right?

Well, the energy it takes to be incensed over trivia is beyond fat, middle-aged, retired dancers. Maybe Tee Rexx will do it. In my case, it's just easier to believe that the criticism aimed at the WIlliams sisters in similar cases WAS racially motivated, and that everything Justine said after winning this tournament was just fine.

Hey, I'm either right in both cases, or wrong in both cases, so either way I'm perfect.

I'm not even sure she knew it was the first WTA final for Lina. Think how many people in the world would know it?

Actually, I'm not surprised she said nothing about Lina in her speech. Justine played a shadow of Lina in the final and in that bright sun Lina was hardly ever visible (take that from somebody who wanted Lina to win it badly)

Lina was feeling comfortable, I think there were a lot of things that affected her performance

1) Inexperience
2) Playing against a player that is very confident and very good in finals
3) Lina herself said she doesn't like playing Justine because her style hurts Lina's game with too much topspin.
4) Lina was obviouosly exhausted after 4 3 sets matches + doubles, and believe me, it was very hot and humid in Toronto
5) I think she was feeling a bit dizzy in a couple of points

I am sure she will do better next time. Lina really impressed me the way she came back to win some of her matches against more experienced and established players, I think she has what it takes (take my words, I kind of good to pick my favourites ;) ) I believe Lina has a lot more potential than the other russians, since she doesn't really have many flaws in her game (like Elena's serve for example) and I think if she stays injury free she will be the best Russian.

Lina did start playing well during parts of the 2nd set, putting pressure on Justine's second serves and hitting some winners. But that's when justine came up with those BIG serves, and kept the lid on her.

Justine's game caught fire, and she kept the big serving up to the end of the match, so Lina grew frustrated again.

I noticed it too. Justine 's coach was always important for her, but now she prooved that she's also able to win tournaments without her coach. It's good to see Carlos back next week, but it's also a great achievement to win 2 times without him.
