Two siblings from the slums dominating the sport is simply amazing. This is without a doubt the best thing that has ever happened in the sport.

Word! Two BLACK sisters come out of nowhere and dominate a white sport! Pretty good and pretty amazing.

Think Kim and Elke will be both no.1 or win a slam?!

Yes, truly a remarkable story. However, I can think of a lot of great things the sport has witnessed. But I'm not so caught up in my own selfcreated hype, so I can actually see a bigger and much clearer picture.

I admit, I would have picked Rod Laver winning the Grand Slam twice, five years apart. Or possibly Martina Navratilova only losing on match in an entire year.

What's this with the 'slums?
They were from a poor part of town - certainly not from white suburbia but that does not equate with 'slums'.
It might make it sound more interesting but get a grip.

I can think of a bettter story...a former no.1 coming back after a horrible crime against her to win a slam and get into the top 10 again.

Or how about a Woman beating a former Men's Wimbledon Champion in the Astrodome?

I think it's a great story. Of course, there are also other great stories as well (including some amazing tales from the former eastern bloc) but the Williams are certainly one of the great stories.

The ultimate rags to riches story. An historically elitist, bourgoise sport. Not playing according to the establishment. Rebels. Two champions from the same family duking it out on the world's largest stages. Battling stereotypes, lies about match fixing and assholes in general. It has everything.

CamilleVidann, what is the phuck up with you, dearie...??? Although, not rich, the Williamses were not from the "slums". Did you know that Oracine is an accomplished and professionally trained chef??? And, all of Compton is not, as you say slums??? Biatch, you don't have any idea what a phucking slum is, more less "know that that is where the Sisters are from!!! You, my dear, suffer from severe "jealousy" of the Williamses and can't seem to concentrate on your own miserable little existence. The Sisters are successful and rich, something you, no doubt cannot now or probably ever claim.

Enough already...!!!

Not the best but interesting.

A poor girl from Russia who got her first tennis racket by selling her family's television. She became famous, filled with promises of greatness. But later on, by twist of fate, this girl seemed to have sold back her 'racket'(tennis career) in exchange of 'TV' (media).

The WILLIAMS story is the most intriguing, that is why they rule tennis. :)

I go as far as to saying they are the most important players out there right now.

if we're talking about sport in general (not just tennis), I would say what Armstrong has achieved is more remarkable...

the williams sisters are a terrific "triumph over adversity" story. they are one of the many great stories in all of tennis.

I always thought that they woudl get there, because they have a sense of arrogence. Im not saying they are arrogent people, they just have 100% belief in their game, the same as Roddick and Bovina for example.

Ya' know, I'm beginning to wonder if people actually read the posts here.

Can't you all see that the starter of this thread is NOT a Williams fan and will probably prove him/herself to be one of the most hateful posters on this board in the next days? This is a sarcastic thread.

The poster/imposter "CamilleVidann" has been an uninspiring little twerp since she started posting here some months ago. The name "Williams" is her only shot at getting noticed/recognized somewhat. What the hell, she wont be the first to use that trick und probably wont be the last... so ignore her

A shout at the gangs for holding on, while servenrichie has been away :wavey:

Thanks Pureracket:wavey: I guess I should have, but I still had that niggling leftover from Wimbledon to chew on, only to realise later, that it is all in the house, so no qualms. God! is good to be back again :wavey:

You wanna-be Willams fans are total fake imposters.
This thread isn't about sarcasm nor rep points.
I truly think their story is the best thing that's ever happened to tennis. If you don't believe me, that's fine but you can't judge ppl you have met on the net.

May I suggest that you might also want to spend some time looking at the backgrounds of some of the Eastern European (particularly Russian ) players. You might discover that the Williams are not the only unlikely ones to make it in tennis.
In terms of American tennis, they may be spectaular but then I stand to be corrected if I say that most of the American players haven't come from the privileged country club types either. White yes, but not particularly privileged. I can actually think of one exception , Tracy Austin. Most privileged families don't need to have or want their children to support them!
Would be glad to get some thoughts on that.
