hey buddy, yeah i pulled out of canberra and mackay purely because when i was in the states i tore my deltoid pretty bad. im considering a career left handed now! no seriously, its to the point where ive got no stability in my backhand and im serving at 60%. we did well in mackay but mons pulled her hammy and then her stomach a few games later during the casey/sewelly match and it wasnt until we were warming up for the finals that she couldnt get up to serve. so we pulled out of doubs in rocky but i decided to test the shoulder in singles but it was a no go. so back to the drawing boards now to strenthen it up, hopefully be back for the south aus ones. ill be there for sure to back mon up in doubs at least. hope your well. nic

Hey Aaron,

How are you doing buddy? Hope you enjoyed your holiday, if thats what you went away for. To answer your questions, I'm currently in Thailand playing the Volvo Open, and leaving for the Indian wta this Friday. Shoulder is looking good, so if all goes well I'll be back on court for singles starting with Bendigo. Thanks for the support, minus injury I'm feeling good so hopefully I'll be climbing up the rankings soon. Take care champ, talk to you soon.

This 45 y.o who beat Nicole earlier in the year, is it the same 45 y.o who apparently beat Lauren Breadmore the other week? The name Ros - is this Ros Balodis who used to play satellites about 10 years ago (around the Kate McDonald, Gail Biggs era)?? Maybe she should go pro again!

Hey Aaron,

How are you doing? At the moment I'm in Sydney recovering from shoulder surgery which I had done in April. So I'm enjoying the time off, been to heaps of concerts trying to get it all done before I hit the court in a couple of months (I'm hanging out for some court time). Mons should be in Japan, but i won't be over there so I don't know who she is playing with. Hope you're well.

I watched most of Nicole's MD games in Taupo and Wellington including the three doubles games above. They didn't have too much trouble in the first two rounds and in the S/F either team could have won as the game ebbed and flowed. I expect her to not have too much trouble in reaching the top 500 in rankings.

571-Nicole Kriz/nr-Nicole Bouffler vs 513-Mami Inoue(USA)/813-Shona Lee(NZL)....
Realistically, the Nicole's should get through this OK. Krizzy's in a different league, while Bouffler played great with Lisa DÁmelio a few weeks back. Not so impressive with Shona Lee. Shame they have to play her 1r though.

Nicole withdrew from the singles on 20 May. Mustn't have known if she'd arrive in time from Japan. Shame she couldn't play qualies last minute.
Krizzy's dub's ranking will go up to the 480's if she can win here. Helps get her closer to seedings with Leanne Baker when Leanne returns from injury.

Will be good to see Nicole Bouffler earn her 1st ever dub's ranking also if they win this match. Will debut at around 760 (qualified & made QF of $25k with D'Amelio & QF's of $10k with Lee).

QF: vs 2/416-Christina Fusano/Raquel Kops-Jones(USA).....
They've played together previously 14 times since 2002. Of those 14, 9 were 1st round losses. In the past year tho, they have won a $50k together & reached SF & QF in other U.S $50k's.

Remember Bouffler nearly upset a top seeded pair with Lisa DÁmelio in a $25k QF. We know Krizzy's more than capable of the upset, so fingers crossed.....

2/416-Fusano/Kops-Jones d. Kriz/Bouffler - 6-2,6-4 :sad:

Still a decent effort against a much higher ranked pairing. Krizzy will move up to the 480's in the dub's rankings, while Bouffler gains a dub's ranking. Always great when a new Aussie joins the rankings list :D

Can't wait to see how Krizzy goes in the singles next week....
I wonder if she'll pair up with Bouffler in the dub's again?

SeanyQ
Jun 11th, 2006, 03:27 PM
Fusano/Kops-Jones ended up winning the whole thing without dropping a set. Hopefully she'll get a better dub's draw this week.

Allentown USA $25k:
Singles Q1:
7/612-Kriz vs wc/nr-Lauren Nikolaus-Zink (USA)....

This will be the 29 y.o American's 1st senior event (not even a $10k qualie). She payed 3 junior tournaments in 1993, losing to Anne Kremer in the SF's of 1 in 3 sets. Kremer is 30 y.o. So it shows that at 1 point at least this yank could play.

If she wins this, would be guaranteed to play 9/618-Christina Fusano (USA) for a spot in the MD.
Fusano plays bagel girl Amy Dillingham in 1r. so after double bagelling her, Fusano will hopefully find Krizzy's game a bit too much in comparison. Then again Lauren may be as bad as Amy, we'll see......

Currently 414 in singles & 186 in doubles (which will go up to the 160's after the latest points are added).
Her previous best singles year end rank was 444. With no points to defend this year, she should realistically finish in the top 400.
Career best doubles rank to improve even further. Fantastic comeback year for Krizzy :worship:
Shame Leanne's not playing the upcoming South Aussie circuit with her.

Nic beat # 397 Christina Horiatopoulos in the 1r - 6-4,6-0. This will take her up to 400 in the rankings (meaning she'll pass Hori & with the ease of this win, will be closer than Hori to the summer wc's). Should she reach the QF's, she'd go up to around 380. She's pretty much guaranteed herself a top 400 year end ranking for the 1st time.

Shame the trip to NZ got saw her getting snubbed for a Hobart qualies wc. All the wc recipients were lower ranked than Nic & all ended up getting hammered in straight sets. The best any of them could manage was a 6-3 set. Hopefully TA wake up & at least give her qualies wc into AO.

This week:
$50k St Paul - US....
Singles Qualies:
1r. 354-Kriz vs 559-Ipek Senoglu (highest singles ranking 293 & highest dub's ranking 85).

Head 2 Head:
1-1...

2003 WESTENDE CLAY Q:
4/399-SENOGLU d. 599-KRIZ - 6-2,6-2

2003 SUNDERLAND HARD R32:
565-KRIZ d. 3/340-SENOGLU - 6-3,7-6(3).

Hopefully Nic & Leanne can have a big week in the dub's too. Next 2 weeks they'll be playing the main circuit wta US events. So would be great to get a good lead in to them. Hopefully this will set them up for the French & Wimbledon. At least Leanne's not having to play qualies this week, so will be nice & fresh for the dub's. If Kriz wants to improve her singles ranking, then she is playing the wrong tournaments. She's clearly a talented girl, but America is doing her no favours.

I know it looks that way at the moment, but Nic's currently working with a coach in the US who's working on changing some things with her game. Problem is, it's eaqrly days & it's during tournaments. Don't expect much singles wise for a couple of tournaments until they get it all together. It was important to just go overeas & get a heap of the bigger tournaments under her belt. Rather than hanging around Australia for 3 months just for 3 challengers, & playing the NZ $10k's would've been of little benefit.
There's definitely a good chance we'll see Nic & Leanne in the MD of the French Open dub's.

Nic had the flu last week & only started to come good around the time of the semi's. She could hardly play the singles match! It's been "fucking freezing" over there. She's healthy again now though.
Contrary to a match report in the challengers thread, there was nothing wrong with her left ankle. She just had the flu.

I really thought Kriz was going well in her singles at the end of last year. What destroyed her confidence??

There were a couple of things that started it.
- She was unfairly overlooked for a place in the AO training camp;
- She was unfairly overlooked for a place in the AO WC playoff's. Then told last minute that she was in as an alternate. Very hard to come out with a win when she'd been doing fitness training rather than hitting (same as what happened to Hori);
- She was only told that she had a Q wc for the Gold Coast after she'd already flown to Sydney with plans of playing the Auckland dub's;
- Because she got to the Auckland dub's QF, she missed out on the Sydney wc playoff's & was therefore overlooked for all following wc's as she'd chosen to play a NZ tournie;
- then she flies overseas. The flu (it was freezing over there & coming from the Aussie summer), combined with working on some changes to her game contributed to the 1st 2 singles losses.
- Don't know what happened in the singles at Orange.
- Main thing is, she'd be keeping her confidence up with these great dub's results.

There's a good week of singles coming up though. We'll see her winning again in singles....I have a feeling! ;)

She's friends with the Aussies: Krizzy, Casey & Bryanne that I know of... As well as that, she's a top 100 dub's player. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the whole thing! Besides, Leanne's not playing there....

Sun's the one who beat her here in the singles. Krizzy's played her twice this year with Leanne. Lost to her & Tiantian Sun at Auckland in Jan & then beat her & Chun-Mei Ji a couple of weeks ago at Orange $25k....Hasn't played Zhang in doubles.
Carly hasn't played Zhang or Sun before.
Krizzy will move from # 122 in the doubles rankings to about 116. 1 spot behind Trudi Musgrave. She'd move up 2 spots above Musgrave should they make the final, or up to about 112 if they win it.........

Naturally she's not happy about how the singles has gone. But it'll turn around!
Lets just hope she can get a tonne of dub's points in Europe & make the FO & Wimby dub's. Financially this would such a huge boost, as well as the experience. She's verging on the top 110 now, so so close!!
She's such a talented player that it's really only a matter of time until she goes on a massive singles roll & has us all asking what the hell happened the last couple of months......
