The first time a got a WC into a maindraw, yes I am proud to get one, cause I do not think the Canadian director gave it to me cause I am a Canadian player!!!

And I find it a little bit boring to know another Bryanne's history "I lost because of my ex-husband or I lost ...." :p

Aug 10th, 2003, 06:05 PM
She will be announcing her retirement, I swear it.

Larissa Liashenko trains hard before the Rogers AT & T Cup

Aug 10th, 2003, 08:19 PM
I prefer to play Larisa Ferrer over anyone else on tour. I may be the only player that has a winning record over her and I have won the last 5 meetings.

Aug 10th, 2003, 08:48 PM
Um Selima Valentine owns Larisa Ferrer:rolleyes:

Something to do with FWTT Survivor oh its was fun though! LOL!

Aug 10th, 2003, 08:56 PM

Monica Gambill arrived in Canada today ready for the Canadian Open.Gambill has had a decent hardcourt season so far but is hopefull for more.I got to the semis in San Deigo. And i lost a close battle last week.I could do with a title(laughs)
In Toronto she faces Larissa Liashenko they have a 3-3 head to head with Gambill winning the last 3 inculding a tough 4 hour FWTT suvivor match.Theres not much love loss between the pair so it should be a fiery encounter.
'We did have a disagrement and it got a little personal.I think we've both grown up so it may not be as firery as people think but its not like we are bessi mates'

Soren/Hingisafrilia for dubs

Aug 10th, 2003, 11:30 PM
Samantha up to BIG challenge

Samantha Soren of Canada recieved a wildcard in the main draw here in Toronto but she faces the 10th seed Brenda Van Haak in the 1st round. Samantha obviously knows she has nothign to lose but wants to show everyone what she can do on the court against the best players."This is a tough opponent here she is ranked very high above me and i just need to respect here and ill have to change mt game plan this week to give her some trouble." In doubles she is paried with Fleciandoe Hingisafrilia whom she has just partnered with for the past couple of months.

Sabine Graf ready to win a match

Q: You will face Ruflina Taliamanosoko in the first round of the Canadian Open, what do you think of this match?
A: It is a big match I think. Ruflina and I are friends and we know our game very well. We played so many tough matches and we also have fun on court. I like her, she is a great tennis player and a fantastic mother. I am looking forward to play this match.

Q: So you like the tough draw?
A: No, I said I like to play against Ruflina but the draw is terrible. I have to defend my final points from last year. I lost to Marteena in the final and I do not want to lose a lot of points to fall in the rankings. But this year the FWTT is getting better and better. There are a lot of excellent tennis players and we have a great amount of interesting juniors.

Q: In doubles, you will play with a newcomer from France, Emilie Joubert. She is ranked 75th in the doubles and she started to play the professional tour this season. Why did you team up with her and what do you except of this partnership?
A: Emilie is one of the strong young girls. I could find this out at Roland Garros. We played the second round and she had the chance to win against me, at the end I was lucky and won in three tough sets. This week I was looking for a doubles partner. First I asked Tami, but she did not want to play any doubles this year. And then Emilie asked me if I would like to be her partner. I think we both will have fun on court, maybe we will win the cup.

Q: This would be great, good luck Sabine and all the best for your singles and doubles matches.
A: Thanks

Aug 13th, 2003, 05:52 PM

"I think she was tired, her first match went around 3 hours, and I think she was fading. I wasn't playing great, some of my errors were atrocious, but I hung in there and tried to make the points long. She wanted them over quickly, so was going for some pretty unrealistic winners and low-percentage shots. She's a tough player, we've had a lot of battles now, and I think with a bit more training and a couple of good tournaments back-to-back, she could become a real threat on the tour.

I'm looking forward to playing Anna. I don't think I've played her before, so I expect it will be a good match."

Aug 13th, 2003, 10:16 PM
Kroulikova expects a tough match

Paula is a very tricky player. She has a very good slice that stays low and her serve is pretty good. I've never played her in singles but I played her quite a few time in doubles so I know how she plays. She likes the faster surfaces but the courts here in Toronto are slower then usual so I think it might give me a little edge, but at this level, you never know.

Canadian Open, Toronto
Women's Singles
1st Round

Q-Gisele Noventz def. [6]Lindsay-Anne Sarile 6-3, 6-4

Q: Gisele, you seem to be picking up.
A: Yeah. I played a great match against Lindsay, and I think I have great chances against Ruflina.

Q: Tell me about today's match a little?
A: Hmm.. I think I went there with a strategy... You know? I planned everything. I knew what to do to beat Lindsay, so that was just what happened.

Q: Won't you tell us your strategy?
A: No way. She might read this interview and she'll think of something else to beat me after (laughs)

Q: So you have a rematch against Taliamanosoko. What do you expect?
A: I think it'll be something big. It's going to be an exciting match, because two black players will be playing, and we're more exciting than some white players on the tour. Much more exciting.

Q: Are you discriminating some players?
A: I didn't say them all, I only said most of them. No.. You misunderstood my answer. I find for example Anjelica, Eva, Monica and Anna to be quite exciting. Their games are exciting to watch and to play against. You know? They're interesting people too. There are just some other players who don't worth any shit.

Q: So whose game you find less interesting than yours?
A: Tami's game can be quite boring to watch. Who else? Bryanne's too, but Bryanne is a great person, but I don't like her game. I also dont like Marteena's game. Most of the girls on tour, have an annoying game.

Q: And what do you think of your game?
A: I think people are actually very pleased to see me playing, so I think it's not that bad (smiles)

Q: People were very nice with you here. You were very mistreated in Los Angeles. Tell us about that.
A: They were Dulko fans. They'rs just as annoying as Dulko herself. What they were doing? Just trying to make me lose my concentration and focus, so Dulko could go and win. They know she would have a tough match playing against me, and she actually did, and I was tired of them trying to harm me.. So I tried to harm them first.

Q: Don't you think you went too far?
A: No. Not at all. They were most polish fans, so I wouldn't expect a great treatment. I was very very disrespected in Poland when I played there, so I obviously wasn't expecting nothing good. And I won't respect who doesn't respect me, and they didn't.

Q: And what about the doubles?
A: Yeah, we lost again. But as you can see, it was a tough loss for us. We're having so many chances to win, and we don't. I think we are the best team, we're just a little bit anxious to close the match, but I think we're gonna be fine.

Q: Do you think Anna's loss was another factor for your doubles' loss?
A: No. Anna's a great competitor, and professional. She wouldn't be disturbed by a loss. I think she just move on, like me. She's a great player, she might have a great next week, or you know, whenever she plays. I think we lost because we just didn't focus on the right time. But like I said, nothing we can't resolve.

Q: Ok Gisele, thank you for your time, and glad to have you back. Good luck in your next round.
A: Thank you.

Karla Herrera def. [11]Anabel Conde-Martinez 6-4, 6-4

Karla this has been your first main draw win in some time, how do you feel?
Extremly happy, feels like i can still play some good tennis, i think Anabel was kind of surprised the way i started both sets, breaking her and not looking back, but i was really solid today.

Anabel Conde had won Helsinki so she was playing well coming into the event...
Yeah, but that was on clay, i think she was playing well today, she is a good player and she has had a consistent year, in fact she was seeded, so its important for me because i beat a higher ranked player and she was playing well coming in, so that`s a good sign for me recently i had been losing in round one, and having to play qualies all the time, its always difficult.

Now it does not get any easier you now face Jane Wong..
Jane is such a good player, i have good memories of her, because she was my first win over a top ten player, dating back to Hilton Head in 2002, and she was a former Roland Garros winner so facing and try to beat her on hard court will be a new experience she has beaten me before on hard courts, so its not going to be any easy.

What about doubles
Oh well we lost already , we played a good match but still we lost, i think Adriana and me have not been lucky on those close ones.

Good Luck Karla :)

Aug 14th, 2003, 06:25 PM

Lucia Kurkova def. Sandy Vicario 6-2 0-6 6-4

Today i played quit well in the first and third set hitting winners and only a few errors. But in the second she totally destroyed me, she was running all down, she always had the answer to my shots.

The next match against the half-man will be tough, because we know each other very well and its hard to play a moonballer like her.

Aug 14th, 2003, 11:39 PM
Marteena/Lindsay

[2]Marteena Huubere def. Larissa Liashenko 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-6(0)

"I am very happy to have won my first match here. It's always tough to come back to a tournament where you are the defending champion. So much pressure and expectations, so the first match is always tough - especially against a playing like Larissa. Larissa is a good friend of mine and she's a very good player, so i am very happy with this win. I'm also very happy to see one of the more talented players back on tour!"

Aug 15th, 2003, 04:48 AM

Karla Herrera beats (7) Jane Wong in a three hour match 7-6 6-7 7-6.

Karla quoted

"I`m so tired, but happy at the same time it was such an exciting battle i think we both played our best today, and really couple of points in the end decided"

On facing Regla

"She will be tough to beat, she beat me last time and i hope to turn that around, i really hope it does not got three sets again :o"

Taliamanosoko talks

Q: You've been so quiet on the tour, what's going on?

A: I've just had a lot of personal reflection to do. My tennis wasn't the best and my heart just wasn't there but slowly and surely I'm regaining my clear-headedness.

Q: Tough win over Gisele?

A: It was so nice to see her playing well and I really enjoy my matches with her. I think we are even in our head to head.

Q: Doubles not going so well?

A: Well Jane and I go through that. We'll win like 3 tournaments in a row then lose 1st round 3 times in a row. We're just schizophrenic.

Aug 15th, 2003, 05:21 PM
Paula :D wot a great win :D

BLACK BATTLE : Ruflina beats Gisele in three sets

Q: Gisele, even after your loss, you seemed very mature on court, and the match was decided on details.
A: I know. It was a tough match for me. I know that I'm a great player, that I can do everything better than my opponent, but Ruflina today played some flawless tennis. But I still think I should've taken it.

Q: You had a break on the second set. You seemed quite frustrated for not holding your serve.
A: I know. I don't know what happened there. In normal conditions, I would've closed. Definitely I wouldn't lose my serve that time.

Q: What do you think of Ruflina's fighting spirit?
A: That what makes us black players so special. We never give up. Ruflina is another great example. She'll never give up. That's why I admire her a lot.

Q: Do you think the white players do not fight?
A: They don't. Some do, but mostly they don't.

Q: Why do you say that?
A: I think that's just the black people spirit. "Never give up". After so many injustices for us, we just don't want to give up.

Q: You seem to be calm and relaxed now, after your loss. Why is that?
A: Because I'm clearly right that I did all that I could have done today. I think I lost because Ruflina played better than me. Usually I screw all my matches, and I lose because of myself. But today there was nothing that I could do. Ruflina was very fast and very determinated to win, and I was just like, playing my game.

Q: You had your chances though.
A: I know, I know. I'm definitely playing better next time we meet.

Q: Larisa's reaction toward her loss was crtiticized by you. Why you looked so angry about her reactions?
A: I think that she thinks that she's invincible. Her reactions just made that clear. So what that she's the world's number 1? I think that she needs to get used to early losses.. She's a human being and she's not perfect. She can lose in any given day to any player, so I don't understand her shocking reactions.

Q: ON your first interview you said that the people were pleased to see you on court. Do you think they liked your match?
A: I think so. There's nothing you can do when you're watching me instead of claps (claps hands). I'm always a great player to be seen. I believe Ruflina too. (smiles)

Karla win her first tier I even by beating Paula Masterton in straight sets

Karla Herrera def Paula Masterton 7-6 6-3

Q. Karla how do your first Tier I event win, did you expect it?

Not at all, especially at this moment , i was not winning that many matches on the hard court season, but i was wonderful week here it kind of just everything got in the right place and that allowed me to play my best for sure.

Q. There were any hard feelings for todays final?

No, lol, what happened between Paula and me its in the past now, i really did not think about it anymore, we play a great match today, i was able to come throught in the tiebreak and played really well the second set.

Q. Going to the Usopen, what do you think of your chances?

Well its tough to say, i hope to do my best there, i think if i play this way i can go far, but who knows there are a lot of great players and it won`t be easy.

Thanks Karla good luck :)
