Sharapova or Sprem

Jordan.

Being that Vera is already in the top 20, has been consistent all year, and has nothing to defend until March 2004, I pick Vera.

Thanks.

vera is closest but i think sprem and sharapova are better. sharapova still has the AER to deal with and altough she may have a chane of reaching the top 10 next year (but it would be extremely tough) as said above vera is already in the top 20, is consistent and hasn't got much to defend until march so i think she'll probably beat sharapova to it. sprem hasn't got a good result in a slam yet and doesn't have much chance this year to reach the top 10 so i think vera will beat them to it. ashley will have to really work to get into the top 10 whereas i think the others wouldn't have to work as much or as hard so ahsley might take a bit longer.

Sharapova or Zvonareva.
I'd like to see them play eachother.

Vera is currently number 9 in the race so she looks set to enter the top ten at the end of this year! Can't see any of the others managing that yet!

Maybe none of them..

:worship: Good Point

If I had to pick one.....and only picking one because I'm posting....Vera...however havn't seen Sprem play.....she looks too far away to even get close.....Ashley? I fear for her mental state on court (for now)... Sharapova will be up there very soon...just not this year, she still has things to learn yet :wavey:

Spream hasn't competed in a high level tournament to include her here... why not then to include Kuznetsova? Safina?

Fair point :wavey: I think Kuznetsova is going to only improve.....still young and as soon as the consistancy creeps in...who knows? Not top 10 this year...maybe in 2?

Safina...never seen her play....same as Harkleroad I question their mental toughness...I watched Molik play Safina on the scoreboard at wimbledon.com (as a major fan of Molik's) and Safina crumbled....but tough matches will fix that.

At the end of the day...no-one has crashed the scene like Capriati/Seles/Sabatini....it's just too even out there now to make an impact withing a year ot two. IMO

but to answer the thread questions, it should be Vera... she's playing well, she is good on hard courts and likes carpet... she has a chance to get to LA at the end of the season... Maria is great, but she is just too far behind Vera at this point,

Vera, then Maria, then Karolina (all by the end of 2004)

Ashley will make the top20, but i don't think she will be a top10 player

Anyone who doesn't say vera is speaking with their hearts and not their heads lol. For the reasons Jordan stated, Vera should be in the top 10 before anyone else listed.

i like maria and vera both, but i dont think either will make the top 10 this year. but if we're talking about who's gonna be first, i say vera!

ashley, fat chance!

karolina....havent seen her play, but she seems to be good according to the results.

Good point, as Oz's talented Punch is often the one who crumbles against only fair opponents. Dinara started out with the huge burden of being Marat's sis, and I'll say ova and ova that (Islan)ova (her Mom and an actual pro coach) pushed the kid into the WTA too fast (last year)! Vera D. (about the same age) worked up through the ITF and Sharky (youngest of these 3) played lowly Challenger events early this year. Vera Z. has an awesome backhand and can go pretty far; when Sharky "fills out" as she's barely 16, you're talking genuine big-babe tennis. (Sorry, Lena & Leena). And of course Lina only makes me   (BLUE)! Mentally, Vika and the now-healthy Nadia are also tough like Sharky, along with The New Barcelona Bumblebee, "Sveta de Sanchez-Casals". ;)

Vera or Masha, but Ithink Vera purly because she is closer and is not impeded by age restrictions.

vera first, then Sprem....Sharapova in a couple years.....

Vera Zvonareva
Maria Sharapova
Ashley Harkleroad
Karolina Sprem

I pick Vera simply because she's already pretty close. Maria has AER and she hasn't done anything all that big anyways. Harkleroad will never be top 10. And I've never seen Sprem play.

Exactly. Everyone sits there and oogles over Karolina, but she hasn't done much of anything. Oh wow she has reached two tier IV finals :retard: . Can you believe that she could ever possibly beat the likes of Barbara Rittner and Maria Sanchez-Lorenzo?:p On the other hand, Maria has beaten Elena Dementieva, Jelena Dokic, and Nadia Petrova in a matter of weeks. Still, unless she wins the US Open, she won't get top ten because she only has 2 events she can play until March of next year:sad: .

My conclusion: Vera Z will have a stint in the top ten first, but out of all these players only Maria will stay there for long.

Don't get me wrong, Sprem has had good results at the lower events, but reaching semis of the tier 3s doesn't exactly place you in legit top ten territory:p .

If Vera plays like she has played all year...she will end the year in the Top Ten...she is right on the cusp.

Maria will be next...at least by mid 2004

Vera is numerically so near - health willing. She has points she can add with a few good runs and she has a lot of stalling, peaking, sick and retreating players around her and in front of her in the rankings.

Which of that 4 gets the highest ranking might be another question. I suspect someone in the top 5 is just keeping Maria's place warm but the 4 youngsters are all still evolving so we might be surprised?
