Thursday featured some great matches... Coetzer v Meghan was really exciting to watch as they both have similar styles!! Never seen Amanda play so well, she really flatened out her forehand, and Meghann just seemed flat...lots of UEs... :o

Lindsay made things harder than they should have been v Paola, but she came away with a win...and she happily signed autographs on her way to the media tent. She is a lot taller in person than she appears on TV.

Also, got Ai's autograph after her match. I don't think a :) ever left her face...

the stands were nearly empty as usual, but Lindsay was the crowd fave, especially after then said, "From Palos Verdes..." :p

I got good photos, but I don't know how to post! Help!!

Lindsay looks great, very fit, and no sign of her knee bothering her that I could tell...

Have tournament promoters actually told anyone there is a tournament going on?

That's two tournaments in the same area in less than a year that have followed the same marketing approach. "Let's move the tourney to a new location... and not tell anyone about it. And.... we won't advertise it either! We won't even put up information around the tournament site to indicate it's going on. .... Ticket sales should be brisk!"

Someone needs to find out what business marketing school these people attended.... and burn it down.

Great to hear Amanda is hitting her forehand well. She has really been improving her ability to flatten it out when she needs to and it's wonderful to hear that she made it work today against a tough opponent. I hope she can keep it up next round!!!

Promotors (in this case Gus Sampras) have done little to hype this tourney.:( For example, the tourney is being held on a college campus, yet there are few students from the University there...the courts are empty...the promotors should have given away tix to the kids in the dorms. There were no billboards, no radio, and no guest appearances...the promoters still treat tennis like the word-of-mouth country club sport it USED to be...welcome to 2003!!!

They're relying on word of mouth? (Certainly seems that way.) Great. In about 15-20 years, they should have some decent crowds. Perhaps Maria should have invited her new friends from the Chargers.

Or better yet, ask Anna Kournikova to show up. Even if she can't play, just have her show up and flash her knickers. That would draw every male in a 3 county area.
