this match is soooo good!

both are playing well. maria makes a few bad shots because she's trying for to much.

Maria played well but let it slip. this will go with experience. Kim and the others better be ready because maria will storm through the top fifty, forty, thirty, twenty, to the top ten where she belongs.

Cybelle Darkholme

six one kim in the third

Dont let the breadstick fool you. Maria played well but made bad shots because she was so frustrated. She needs to keep a positive attitude. I don't like this hung head look it reminds me of lindsays slumped shoulders. Get over that quick maria because it will do you no good.

Her net game also needs major work but that will come with time hopefully. Overall an A for effort.

and kim's splits scare me silly!

The crowd was really behind maria too. Kim didn't let it faze her.

Good luck next week Maria!!! It's always difficult to play a pusher, especially in the third set they just get everything back.

Well done to Maria, I thought this match would go to 3 sets, so happy Maria played well and that Kim pulled it out.

Maria is going one way and that is up. But still don't think they should change the AER for her

Well done to Maria :)

i was very impressed by her win over jelena at wimby as jelena didnt play badly at all...kims another kettle of fish but it showed that maria is definately not intimdated and she showed it here. If only she got the first set it wouldve been a great upset

Isn't this overhyped? Just wait longer to see whether she's able to win consistently.

Anyway, it seems like this girl is able to intimidate the topplayers!

saw highlights...amazing returning from Sharapova in the second set!

And I LOVE her attitude:

"I had chances I just didn't take," Sharapova said. "My goal is to be No. 1, but there's a long journey ahead of me. It's a matter of time and a matter of experience. I need to be playing at the same level throughout the match."

I say it now...she's #1 in the world in a few years

OK that is true. I found another thread too. "Who will be the next non-Williams, non-Belgian no.1?" Hantuchova, Mauresmo and Kournikova were nominated. And then there was a picture of Sharapova with another girl. And someone predicted "the girl on the right". Smart.

If you think 6/7 years is soon, like her or not she's gonna be the one to beat when Henin and WS depart the tour.

Could be, could not be. She already has a chronic shoulder injury and because of that and her limited athletic abilities, she has to play a limited schedule.

So what, Henin dominate circuit last year with limited schedule, Maria will dominate later, Serena, Henin and Kim admit that. She will be the one to beat, at least on fast surfaces.

Honestly, they don't have to admit that to convince me, you know as I know Maria will smash them later, it's just a matter of time before Maria dominate circuit. She should be N1 at the end of this year if she has any problem with her body.

Who cares what anyone admits?
Maria is #1 in 2008 points and prizemoney.
She's the only slam winner this year, and she's won 2 of the last 6.
The present and the future.

interesting theory, could have been said about Seles had she not been stabbed. I guess that blows away those who think she would have continued to win three slams a year well into the late 90's:sad:

These rabid Graf fans are so obsessed with Monica. I mean, it's not enough one of them stabbed her, they still have to harp on and on about her and drag her into every conversation, related or not. Insecurity about their fave's legacy?

hardly Steffi Secured her legacy in 1988. Sealed it with a kiss 11 years later by beating the #3,2, and 1 ranked players in the world to win her twenty second slam.
