We've read and commented on religion, but how about superstition? You know, like Goran Ivanisevic always asking for the same ball back after he hit an ace or winner?

Me, In doubles I like to get the balls from my partner, and not my opponents, if my opponents send me a ball I toss it to my partner first.

Jelena. she doesnt like stepping on the lines, sits to the right of the umpire, takes balls to the right of her all the time, bounces the ball 5 times for her 1st serve, i think 2 times for her 2nd serve

Kim seems to be very superstitious about the food she eats, especially at a GS. Like in Paris she goes to the same restaurant every day.
Apparently there are a bunch of other things which she won't tell "because you'll think I'm crazy".
Down to earth? Nah :p

Monica doesn't step on lines (obviously she does during play) when play is not on. Also, she always enters and exits the side of the court the point was played on, on that same side's baseline. It's hard to describe: if it's deuce and she wins the point - she will walk behind the baseline on the deuce side before going on to the ad side.

I think lots of players are superstitious, and have this litlle things they pay attention to.

Kim has this food - routine, she tries to eat the same food, in the same restaurants before a big match. (her favourites: sushi and italian food)

....oh and she doesn't have ANY of her trophies or tennis stuff in the house. It's all in the garage. That way when she's off court she doesn't think about her life on court all the time. Helps her keep it separate.

90% ( ok 80%) of players say in their Bio's that they try to avoid stepping on lines ;)

Dokic has so many superstitions it's a wonder she can remember them all. I reckon half her problem is she spend so much time worrying about them she forgets about playing tennis. I think she also wears the same clothes for every match in a tournament, so she must do a lot of washing and ironing. :)

Stevie Wonder - Superstition

Very superstitious, writing's on the wall
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way

Very superstitious, wash your face and hands
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh

Very superstitious, nothin' more to say
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no

Cause it's witchcraft, crazy witchcraft,
And although I know it's strickly taboo,
When you arouse the need in me
My heart says yes indeed in me
Proceed with what you're leading me to...

Elena likes her mother to wish her good luck before every match.

Also Masha has a thing with the ball kids, I thinks he likes to take the balls from her right each time, as she makes them roll balls to each other.

Andre has to have the ball kids in the same place. If they move they have to come back

gosh... what is it with the players and walking on the lines! lol
Hingis had that too!
I also think I heard once that if Justine eats the SAME thing ALL week if she wins and stuff.
Gosh... what an awful superstition to have!
