These are people who will think could reach the 4th round, Quarters, even Semi-Finals, provided with a good draw and a top 10-20 defeat. I would have to say Sharapova has the best possibility, Sugiyama, maybe Bovina, but she wont gain any points because of her QF appearance, Myskina definately,Jennifer Capriati, meghann Shaughnessy, Dementieva. I cant think of any other?

oooh that was wrong. lol. Venus is a favorite for the title, just like Kim and Justine, so she wouldn't be under darkhorse title

Bovina - In terrible form however.
Eleni Daniilidou - Same story as above.
Silvia Farnia Elia
Magui Serna
Svetlana Kuznetsova
Shinobu Asagoe
Elena Likhovtseva
Paola Suarez
Kristina Brandi
Anna P.

Sadly, I see none of the WC's making any real dents in the draw. Shenay has the gifts to win, but it doesn't seem she can win those big matches.

Momo...
I guess reaching the semis last year doesn't really make her a dark horse.. but somehow she till is for me..

chanda is another.. if she can play as well in slams as she does the rest of the year!

hantuchova, petrova, vakulenko and stevenson (if healthy). petrova has a really good chance imo. hantuchova has the talent and the game but is slumping. stevenson has the talent and the game but is playing like crud and has a shoulder injury. vakulneko has the game but is very inconsistent.

game wise and talent wise these players have a chance but form wise and consistency and injury wise petrova probably has more chance than the others i've mentioned. although she is inconsistent her slam results have be better than the others with two 3rd rounds and a sf this year and that is without being seeded at AO or RG and facing venus ion the 3rd round at wimby. although her play on us hardcourts is questionable she still has a bigger chance than most players in the event.

actually i think karolina sprem also has a darkhorse chance. she beat an in-form zvonareva on her favourite surface. actually she beat zvonareva twice this season on clay. and since sprem is a power player i think the faster surfaces would suit her game.
