I voted for Aloyna. But I think my nickname for Elana of "The Darling One" is most suitable for.

Why finding her a nickname ? Her first name isn't so beautiful that you have to search a new one ?

I really prefer ELENA ... when you have a so gorgeous name, there's no utility finding a nickname or a new name.

Elena in Russian sounds way too official. The short form of this name - Lena - is suitable, but I don't like it either as too many Lenas are around. Anyways I called her Alyona more than 100 times in 4 years and she never said that she doesn't like it.

So ... between the 2 : my favorite is Lena D.
But if I was speaking to her, I'd prefer use Elena very simply.

To me&LenaD : totally agree ...

I prefer Alyona.
Indeed Elena sounds too official and international. Lena - maybe somewhat Slavonic (we use it in Bulgaria too)
Alyona is typical Russian:yeah:
