Monica Seles is catholic as well. I don't know what religion Ansley Cargill is but she always looks up at the sky whenever she wins so I'm assuming she is religious. Anna Pistolesi is Jewish as well. Holly Parkinson, a recently retired player, was a devout Mormon.

You weren't go to hell if you do not worship God everyday. If you do not accept Jesus Christ as you Lord and Savior, that he was born of a virgin, died and resurrected. YOU WILL GO TO HELL.

This is the only requirement God asks of us is to accept His son. We do not have to do any thing fancy, because God doesn't need our help. His Son has already done everything.

The Bible makes a lot of sense. Because of our sinful nature we interpret God's word to justify our actions. But God's word remains the same always. Pretty interesting stuff in there too.

Billy Joel - Keeping The Faith

If it seems like I've been lost
In let's remember
If you think I'm feeling older
And missing my younger days
Oh, then you should have known
Me much better
Cause my past is something that never
Got in my way
Oh no

Still I would not be here now
If I never had the hunger
And I'm not ashamed to say
The wild boys were my friends
Oh
Cause I never felt the desire
'Til their music set me on fire
And then I was saved, yeah
That's why I'm keeping the faith
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Keeping the faith

We wore matador boots
Only Flagg Brothers had them with the Cuban heel
Iridescent socks with the same color shirt
And a tight pair of chinos
Oh
I put on my shark skin jacket
You know the kind with the velvet collar
And ditty-bop shades
Oh yeah
I took a fresh pack of Luckies
And a mint called Sen-Sen
My old man's Trojans
And his Old Spice after shave
Oh
Combed my hair in a pompadour
Like the rest of the Romeos wore
A permanent wave
Yeah
We were keeping the faith
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Keeping the faith

You can get just so much
From a good thing
You can linger too long
In your dreams
Say goodbye to the
Oldies but goodies
Cause the good ole days weren't
Always good
And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems

Learned stickball as a formal education
Lost a lot of fights
But it taught me how to lose O.K.
Oh
I heard about sex
But not enough
I found you could dance
And still look tough anyway
Oh yes I did
I found out a man ain't just being macho
Ate an awful lot of late night drive-in food
Drank a lot of take-home pay
I thought I was the Duke of Earl
When I made it with a red-haired girl
In the Chevrolet
Oh yeah
We were keeping the faith
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Keeping the faith

You know the good ole days weren't
Always good
And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems

Now I told you my reasons
For the whole revival
Now I'm going outside to have
An ice cold beer in the shade
Oh
I'm going to listen to my 45's
Ain't it wonderful to be alive
When the rock 'n' roll plays
Yeah
When the memory stays
Yeah
I'm keeping the faith
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Keeping the faith

I don't see what is so wrong about people being religious or believing in God. If it makes them feel good and if it gives them comfort , hope , peace I don't see anything wrong with that. Obviously the Williams sisters, Seles, Pierce, have proved that they are their own selves and that no one runs their lives. I consider myself to be very religious and I don't answer to anyone except God and myself. Using the principal that several of you have applied Hingis, among other players are also dumb bcasue superstition is unfounded and it doesn't work I am sure some of you are superstitious, but the superstition gives you some kind of reassurance. Some of you that say that religious people try to point out everything wrong with you that is not everyone and by taking that attitude some of you are being just as bad or worse than religious fanatics by not being acceptant or tolerant.

Tara Snyder, Yoon Jeong Cho, Bethanie Mattek, are religious.

Capriati said she really doesn't consder herslf religious butshe is very spiritual.

I respect anyone who chooses to practice or not practce a religion. I cannot find respect for people who accuse people that they are dumb for following a particular religion or for not following a particular religion.

I don't have a problem with religion at all, but I do have a problem with people dumping their religion on me. I don't need to hear that I should read my Bible or convert to Christianity, nor do I want Jehovah's witnesses knocking on my door.

If you want to know why I never have a Jehovah's witness come to my door EVER, here's why. There used to be a group of 30 of them in my neighborhood, and one would come by every 4 or 5 days. One day, when my boyfriend at the time slept over for the night, one of them came on a SATURDAY at SIX IN THE MORNING and rang the fuckin dororbell. I groggily opened the door in my boxers and t-shirt and the lady asked "Oh I'm sorry, did I wake you?" I replied very flatly that she did and she said "Well, when you're drinking your coffee and reading your Bible..." All of a sudden my boyfriend came to the door and asked me who this was. I had only been sleeping for four hours so I was exhausted a cranky mofo. I looked at the lady and said "First of all I'm Jewish..." and then proceeded to plant a kiss on my boyfriend before adding "and gay" before angrily slamming the door in her face.

We haven't had one since :p

Being a Muslim means you accept that Allah is the One God, and Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is Allah's messenger.

And if you do the rituals such as the daily prayers, fast, charity, pilgrimage, etc means that you are a practicing Muslim.

I hope you understand by this short explanation :)

I could be wrong but I don't ever see catholics trying hard to convert people, or do I just not see it??

let's not get started about Catholic Missionaries and their history in South America, Asia, Africa etc.

I do appreciate that you are confident in your faith and don't spend your energy preaching to others.
Still, I think it must be hard to be a Jehovah's Witness. A couple of them used to come to our house for the longest time (my dad apparently liked talking with them, but they stopped coming once they realized they weren't getting a conversion out of us). One of their reasons for preaching is that, if you knew a way to guarantee someone eternal salvation, why wouldn't you try and spread it? Wouldn't you be showing how you care for someone by sharing that knowledge?...

Mind you, I'm not a JW, I'm not even Christian but that argument makes sense...still I get an unpleasant feeling in my stomach when I get preached to. I think I understand where they're coming from but how dare they presume that their way is better than my way?

being religious does not mean anything. it is a relationship with God is what counts, and that is only by grace, nothing we can do by works. Only God gives us grace and we confess we need His forgiveness in our soul. That is what counts.

Simply belonging to a certain religion shouldn't be taken as evidence that the player is religious (in this context, religious = pious).
So the Christians that wear a crucifix and 'thank' God for their victories but don't attend church, read the Bible, have sex before marriage etc. are NOT religious in my opinion. The superficial practicing of religion, the easy stuff like wearing a cross and saying hallelujah when they win means nothing when they go around screwing people before marriage.

I think the word 'religious' should be used carefully here, as a lot of people are just assuming because so-and-so is Christian, that they must also be practicing too. That's a false notion, and people shouldn't be getting (a) excited because they think their favourite player is an ambassador for their faith, or (b) getting pissed off because they dislike the idea of their favourite following a certain religion.

You're expressing the side of a 4th Century debate taken by St. Augustine, vs. his rival Pelagius. (Who has St. B4 his name obviously says who "won" popularity wise, but doesn't mean he was correct. Pelagius argued that we would be judged on how we lived, not the "accepting Jesus as Our Personal Savior" stuff). Ironically, when Martin Luther led the Protestant reformation, he took the Augustinian postion and St. A's old church sounded like Pelagians for many years after. Of course (after the open selling of "less years in Purgatory", blah that helped cause the schism was only a memory, the Catholic Church went back to the equivilant in granting "final sacraments" to Mafia bosses, etc. who are rather generous financially, of course...).

In my experience few athiests have put any more thought into the areas religion deals with than religious people have, and are rarely able to defend their athiesm with any genuinely logical argument. (Which is not to say there are no logical arguments for athiesm.)

And personally I don't agree with Camrens' definition of 'religious' at all. Religion just means an orthodox set of beliefs you subscribe to. It has nothing to do with 'God' (ie you can have athiest religions). When someone says they are 'spiritual but not religious' it usually means they believe in God (as I do) but don't subscribe to any religious doctrine (as I don't).

But of course this is all :topic: :)

Irma -

Any church that would ban you because you didn't pay them money is not much of a church. There *are* churches out there that are not like that. Jesus was surely not like that. I'm sorry that you had such an experience. I hope you will not turn against all churches (and especially God) because of it. Finding a Godly church these days can be hard - but they are out there.

I'd have to agree- Wicca is an organized religion with a strict set of doctrines and beliefs. I wonder how many practicing Wiccans there are on the tour?

The Eagles - Witchy Woman

Raven hair and ruby lips
sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
she's a restless spirit on an endless flight
wooo hooo witchy woman see how
high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got
the moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
dancing shadows and firelight
crazy laughter in another
room and she drove herself to madness
with a silver spoon
woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,
let me tell your brother, she's been sleeping
in the Devil's bed.
And there's some rumors going round
someone's underground
she can rock you in the nighttime
'til your skin turns red
woo hoo witchy woman
see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman
she got the moon in her eye

An Atheist.

An atheist was taking a walk through the woods.

"What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!" he said to himself.

As he was walking along side the river he heard a rustling in the bush behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7 foot grizzly charging towards him  . He ran as fast as he could up the path :bolt: . He looked over his sholder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his sholder again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was panting frantically and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him. At that instant the atheist cried  "Oh my God" :awww:

Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. :tape:

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky  "You deny my existence for all of these years, teach others I don't exist, and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"

The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to sudenly ask you to treat me as a christian now, but perhaps you could make the bear a christian. :secret:

"Very well," said the voice. The light went out. And the sounds of the forest resumed. And then the bear dropped to his right paw, brougth both paws together  and bowed his head and spoke.

"Lord, Bless this food which I am about to receive and for which I am truly thankful." :lick:

Rhiannon rings like a bell in the night
And wouldn't you love to love her
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Will you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

(this is a much better representation- oh, and Wiccans don't believe in the devil- that is a purely Christian concept)

Two lawyers are walking through the woods when they see a a rather hungry looking bear. One lawyer starts to run, the other, to change from his wingtips to track shoes. The first lawyer paused in mid-step.

"Don't stop to do that! We gotta get out of here! You can't out run a bear!"

" I don't have to outrun the bear", said the other lawyer. "I just have to outrun you."

Why did entering a Catholic high school cause you to harbor resentment against religion

Because when he stepped through the doors he burst into flame.

I'm not religious but I used to say stuff that might be when Jen gave me THAT look. Usually I'd mutter 'Oh Jesus, NO!' under my breath...that's about as religious as I've ever been. The things Jen used to make me do.
